[...] The Sixers have officially passed the 20-game mark. That means the grace period the general consensus were giving the Sixers coming into this season is over. Before we really dig in, here are the previous 10 seasons at the 20-game mark and the final record for continuity with my previous post at 10 games.
Suede Agree, Brown's coaching was exceptional with that group. Agree too, some of present players could be excellent defenders but they're not. It takes a particular mentality and an adopted mindset to take true pride in stopping the opponent regularly, both individually and in '5 fingers in glove' synchronicity (a beautiful thing to watch!). This group hasn't decided whether to bring their lunchpail every night or to just rely on company catering. The athleticism is surely in place; the heads aren't. Focus is on and off, with occasional visits to Lovetron. Can Mo transform 'em into a pack of intimidating, route-diverting junkyard dogs? I highly doubt it.

Jumpin, I think L.Brown was a defensive genious and had attention to detail, 2 things I!m not sure Mo picked up from him. A.Miller/Snow; Iggy/A.I.; Thad/Lynch; Elton/T.Hill; and Sam/Theo; individually I think they are close if not better but that team moved like 5 fingers in a glove, everybody knew where the other guy was, don!t see that with this team.

They are also 7th in opponents field goal %, 5th in opponents 3pt %, 7th in blocks. Basically what that means is there is clearly something to work with here. As JJG says its more about consistency.

Once they get through the next 4 games of marginally slop teams they start playing some big dogs over the follow 9 and we will really get a barometer for this team.

Morty...OK. I thought maybe it was just me. Also, it certainly does seem like Stefanski does a lot of "suggesting" and "planting ideas" with Cheeks, doesn't it? I wonder what Stefanski could get done with a dry erase board and some tape for the floor.

bski: I read those Lou comments the same way you did. Yet another page for my book which has a working title of "Hey, I Just Work Here: The Mo Cheeks Story."

I gotta tell ya, guys, I think the Sixers have actually been playing pretty good D so far. Among their better games, they have held ATL to 3 points below their average, Utah to 4 points below average, NY to 18 points below average and Indiana to 8 below average. Overall, they are 10th in the league in opponents average per game. If you look at ponts per 100 posessions, which compensates for teams that play at different paces, they are giving up 100 points per 100 possesions, which is 5th best in the league. Get more consistent on offense (I'm looking at you, Andre, Elton and Lou), more consistent on taking care of the ball and this team will have a good shot at the 50 wins we all want.
