Louis Williams Signs a 5-year Deal to Stay with the Sixers

Shortly after reportedly declining a $3.9M per season deal, the Sixers stepped up to the plate and signed Louis Williams to a 5-year contract. The 76ers agreed to terms today with restricted free agent guard Louis Williams on a 5-year contract. - Philly.com Philly.com is not reporting any terms of the contract, but I just saw Derrick Gunn on Comcast SportsNite say the deal is reportedly worth $25 million over the 5 years. So it looks like the negotiations are picking up at a rapid pace now. … [Read more...]

Ten Worst Uniforms In Philadelphia History

bradley

This is the first installment of our ongoing series of the Best and Worst in Philadelphia Sports History. My idea for the first segment, uniforms, came immediately after Elton Brand's press conference, when instead of the current Sixers jersey, he raised an updated version of the old red, white and blue version. I freaked out. I couldn't tell if I was more excited for the Brand signing, or the fact that the Sixers finally returned to their classic roots (note: They haven't). How many of … [Read more...]

How Do Agents and NBA Teams Negotiate Contracts?

NBA Contract Negotiations

Ever wonder what goes on in NBA contract negotiations? What the teams say, what the players are thinking and how their agents go to battle for them? I've touched on it a bit in recent posts, and we've been discussing it quite a bit in the comments on this blog. But, unless you are an insider you rarely know what really goes on behind closed doors in pro sports. We are so often left with the common line "team official X can not comment on negotiations as per league rules." Why do NBA personnel … [Read more...]

Phillies Rumors: Phils Talking About Manny?

In what would be an uncharacteristically bold move, SI.com is reporting that the Phillies and Red Sox are talking about a possible Manny Ramirez for Pat Burrell swap. The Red Sox appear serious about trading slugger Manny Ramirez and are talking to the Phillies and two other teams about a deal, according to people familiar with the talks. The Phillies may be the front-runner for Ramirez, who has told people he probably will OK a deal to Philadelphia if the teams can agree on a trade. It … [Read more...]

Phillies Rumors: Mahay coming aboard?

ESPN.com is reporting that the Phillies are in talks with the Royals about acquiring Ron Mahay in exchange for minor-league SS, and current Olympian, Jason Donald. Mahay is sporting a 1.81 ERA with 17 holds in 54.1 IP this season. He is 2nd among MLB relievers with 50+ IP in ERA (behind only Chad Durbin). Mahay would not be a rental as he is signed for next year at $4 million. He is a left-handed reliever with better control than J.C. Romero and would be a definite asset to the team for … [Read more...]

It’s Official: Kareem Rush Will Be a 76er

It's official - Kareem Rush will sign with the 76ers tomorrow. The 76ers have reached an agreement with free-agent guard Kareem Rush. A source close to Rush has confirmed that the shooting guard is in Philadelphia and will sign with the Sixers tomorrow. - Philly.com Ed Stefanski has delivered on his promises we now have one shooter on the roster. Here's a video of what the Sixers fans will get and should expect from Kareem Rush (apologize for a blurriness)... … [Read more...]

Phillies Ramblings

Well, after this weekend I can tell you one thing I am completely done with, and that is trying to predict what this team will do. Our last 3 wins have all come on games that were lost (down 5-2 in the 9th, down 9-3, down 5-0) and our 4 of our last 5 losses have all come on games that were completely winnable. No more predictions on team performance. This team has no rhyme or reason. Angels fans must just love life. Alright, on to the observations. - It is my personal belief, having met Jimmy … [Read more...]

76ers Rumors: Kareem Rush to the Sixers in the Works

Kareem Rush to the Sixers

Has the Sixers' need for a shooter been addressed? According to (keep in mind this makes me sick to my stomach saying his name on my blog) Howard Eskin on NBC 10's Sports Final last night, the 76ers will soon sign or have signed Kareem Rush. Let me start by saying I don't think Kareem Rush has formally been signed by the 76ers. Eskin is pretty close to the action in terms of Philly sports, but if a deal was already done the main stream media (ESPN) would have reported it. More importantly I am … [Read more...]

Top 3 Reasons Andre Iguodala and Louis Williams Haven’t Been Signed

Everyday I read another Sixers fan complaining about the time it's taking to sign Andre Iguodala and Louis Williams. As a fanatic as well I too understand the anxiety of not having two of the team's best players not signed this late into the off-season. With that said I also fully understand WHY this is the case. When you think about the situation from the point of view of why, it gives, at least for me, some piece of mind. I have little doubt that both players will be signed and ready to go … [Read more...]

Brotherly Link Love: Long Weekend Addition

Haven't done one of these posts in a while, but I figured it would be good since I won't be around this weekend to write a new post. So hopefully the multiple topics I toss out there via the links below will help keep the conversation going through the weekend. Sixers sign Royal Ivey The Daily News is reporting that the Sixers have reached an agreement with back-up point guard Royal Ivey. I have been a big fan of this guy from watching him play at Texas. He is a lock-down defender with good … [Read more...]
