Could this be the game that breaks the Phillies out of the funk they've been in the for the last month? I mean, good god, if it's not, I'm not sure it'll happen. Going into the 9th, the Phils were looking at 2nd place for the first time since the beginning of June. Flying past them would be the Mets, who shut them down with their ace, Johan Santana, chugging along with the momentum of a $130 million freight train. The Mets were looking poised to leave the Phils, and their fancy new pitching … [Read more...]
Are the Phillies Really Cheap?
There has been a lot of talk on this site, and several other places, about whether or not the Phillies' ownership really cares about winning and is putting up the amount of money they should to make the team better. We've heard this forever, but I've seen very little to actually back up the claim or at least show that we are different from other MLB teams. Since we don't write anything on this site without doing our research, I did some with the help of one our readers, "Tommy O." I … [Read more...]
Holliday and Fuentes to the Phillies? Would you do it?
Since the Joe Blanton post has trickled over in to speculation about the rumored (and apparently dead) blockbuster deal between the Phillies and the Rockies, I figured I start a new post to get people's opinion about the deal. For those of you who don't know, the rumored deal was Matt Holliday and Brian Fuentes to the Phillies for Shane Victorino, Carlos Carrasco, Lou Marson and J.A. Happ. Here are the arguments for each side of the trade: For: Holliday would give us a ridiculous line-up … [Read more...]
Louis Williams: The Forgotten Sixers Free Agent

We are deep into the Sixers off-season, and thus far most of the conversation has been about the Elton Brand signing, the Andre Iguodala contract situation and the 76ers summer league squad. So it got me thinking, what about Louis Williams? There hasn't been much talk about the fans' feelings regarding his future with the team and his contract situation. Williams hasn't received any offers so far this season although many teams have reported interest. The most recent 76ers-related rumor is … [Read more...]
Joe Blanton to the Phillies! Phillies Fans React with Negativity!
I think this is a very good move by the Phillies. I got about 5 texts from excited friends that loved this move. I figured everyone had to love this move. Then I turn on Radio-950 to try to find out who the other 2 prospects were and I'm greeted with the host saying "I think we just acquired another Adam Eaton." Then I check out my blog when I get home, and while the mood isn't completely negative, it's not quite as positive as I think it should be. So I'm going to analyze this move by making … [Read more...]
The Andre Iguodala Contract Situation

What's taking so long to sign Andre Iguodala? His take... I'm sure everyone wants to know what's going on with my contract situation. Everything is kinda in slow motion right now, which is for the most part normal for all restricted free agents. Teams come in and out of play each day and my agent and I are taking our time to see how things develop with the Sixers and around the league. The Elton Brand deal was huge and I feel he will be a huge addition. The opportunity to play with a dominant … [Read more...]
Phillies Rumors: Phils Turning Attention to Blanton
Clearly Pat Gillick has been a frequent visitor to ReclinerGM and saw that the public didn't think that A.J. Burnett was a very good idea. In response, he has turned his attention to a different target, A's pitcher Joe Blanton. According to ESPN.com, talks on Blanton have "accelerated," possibly by the realization that Adam Eaton, as mentioned in the Phillies mid-season review, is literally the WORST starting pitcher in baseball. Blanton has struggled as of late, and currently sports a … [Read more...]
Samuel Dalembert Dropped from Canadian National Team
Here is a bit of Sixers-related news... Samuel Dalembert has apparently been booted from the Canadian National Team. Philadelphia 76ers center Samuel Dalembert was released from the team after Tuesday's defeat to Slovenia. "Without going into too much detail, it's a situation that we decided to move forward with the players who have the passion and desire to play for Canada," Head coach Leo Rautins said. "It's disappointing for sure, but I think you have to have players who are a 100% … [Read more...]
Phillies Mid-Season Review
Last year, at this point in the season, the Phillies were 48-48. This year, they are 52-44 and sitting in first place. So why is it that I, and many other Phillies fans, feel almost the same as we did at this point last year? There might be a four-game difference, but this team is still inconsistent, occasionally maddening and not entirely playing up to its potential. At its current pace, the Phils are on course to win, you guessed it, 88 games. If you are keeping track at home, the last 7 … [Read more...]
Who Will the Sixers’ Sharpshooter Be?

I know everyone is still on the honeymoon with the Elton Brand signing, but Ed Stefanski and the Sixers still have some work to do. First and foremost they need to get Andre Iguodala and Louis Williams re-signed to long-term deals. Then they need to fill out the remainder of the roster. As I see it the Sixers will only have 10 total players after they sign the guys we all assume are locks to be on the squad. Samuel Dalembert - C Jason Smith - C/PF Elton Brand - PF Reggie Evans … [Read more...]
