It’s Tough to be Phillies’ Fans

10-06-07

Ugh. So once again, off the heels of their most dramatic win of the year, the Phillies take two excruciating steps back, both of which could have been easily prevented. These are the types of baseball games that force many Phillies fans to teeter on the edge of insanity. Like in October 2001, after the Phillies won the first game of a 3-game series against the first place Braves to pull with 1 game with 5 to play and then Robert Person and Brandon Duckworth gave up 11 ER in 8 IP in their 2 … [Read more...]

Wow. (Part 2)

Coste Phillies Mets

OK - a month ago, the Phillies had a ridiculous comeback win against the Mets that looked like it might be the game that got us out of our funk. Well, it didn't work, so the Phillies are tried again tonight. Instead of getting into the negatives (Moyer's worst outing, Burrell and Howard stinking in the clutch, Wheeler not shutting up about how Kyle Kendrick pitching tonight will screw us up until 2011) let's keep this an entirely positive post (but feel free to vent in the comments). Heroes of … [Read more...]

Phillies Ramblings

Shane Victorino

Here is the post-vacation edition of the Ramblings. After their pathetic 4-game sweep at the hands of Dodgers, I was about to write a post about why every single player on the team is responsible for the disappointing season. Of course, since then, the Phillies have won 4 of 5, so I'm not going to jinx them. However, considering how I think this season will turn out, you'll probably see that article in late September anyway. On to the Ramblings... - Last week, a huge step was made by the … [Read more...]

U.S. Men’s Basketball Wins Gold in an Instant Olympic Classic

Team USA Wins the Gold Medal

I just watched the best basketball game in 2008 from 2:30 a.m. to 4:20 a.m.! Team USA beat Spain 118 - 107 in an instant Olympic and basketball classic. Finally breaking an 8-year Gold Medal drought for USA Men's basketball. If you were expecting a blowout at the hands of the U.S. you were mistaken. This was a 12-round heavy weight fight and Spain brought everything they had for 38 minutes. The US came out pressing a bit clearly feeling the weight of their country on their shoulders. … [Read more...]

Exclusive Conference Call With Ed Stefanski

So I'm sure you guys were wondering why I put you through the exercise of "What would you ask Ed Stefanski?" out of the blue. Well it was in preparation for what came this afternoon. Pete and I, along with a select group of bloggers/sports writers including... Truehoop Depressed Fan Sixersoul Passion and Pride The 700 Level RealGM Yahoo Sports ...had the opportunity to talk with Sixers President and GM Ed Stefanski on a conference call. Stefanski came on about 4:00p.m. … [Read more...]

Boldin to the Eagles? Give me one good reason…

GYI0051155082.jpg

Kevin Curtis is injured. Anquan Boldin is requesting a trade. The Eagles have an extra first-round pick in next year's draft. Andy Reid says they aren't interested in a new WR. What exactly am I missing here? I've written here several times, most notably here and here, that the Eagles need to acquire a #1 receiver, give Donovan McNabb one last chance, and if it doesn't work out, start from scratch. At the risk of being repetitive, the last time Donovan McNabb had a #1 receiver, he … [Read more...]

If You Could Ask Ed Stefanski Only One Question…

Question Mark

what would it be? Your most pertinent question. The one burning a hole in your mind every time you think about it. The one that just leaves you baffled every time you consider it. You know the "what the hell were the Sixers thinking" question. Or the "why didn't they do this" question. It could be anything. About a player, the team, Stefanski himself etc. There are no boundaries. The questions that just never seem to be asked or answered during press conferences and interviews. Now I … [Read more...]

Theo Ratliff Back in a Sixers Uniform – Stefanski is the MAN

Once again Stefanksi stays true to his word bringing back former Sixer Theo Ratliff. Phil Jasner is reporting... Theo Ratliff, 35, a veteran of 13 NBA seasons, has sifted through four offers and settled on rejoining the Sixers on a 1-year contract, according to a source familiar with the situation. The source said the 6-10 Ratliff could visit with the Sixers today and accept a 1-year contract for the veterans' minimum of $1.4 million. - Philly.com In fact there was a bit of foreshadowing … [Read more...]

It’s Official: Andre Iguodala Signed for Six Years, $80 Million

Testing the caption feature

"I'm Andre Iguodala. You don't know who I am? I'm rich, bitch!" Can't say anything to Andre Iguodala now; the man got paid, in a big way. He played a very aggressive hand of poker with the Sixers. He pushed all-in last summer by turning down a $57 million extension when everyone thought he was out of his damn mind. The idea: take home an even bigger pot this summer. His plan came to fruition today as he officially signed a six-year, reported $80 million guaranteed contract. He also has the … [Read more...]

Wilt Chamberlain celebrates the Recliner GM reaching 100+ subscribers

We've made it! No, not really, but we have reached a few goals and milestones recently. Thanks in large part to all of you who regularly read the crap we write. When Pete and I first started this blog it was completely on a whim. The conversation went a little something like this... The Stage: Completely random and uneventful day at work (Pete and I sit right next to each other). Pete: We should start a sports blog. Dannie: Get out of here, are you serious? Pete: Yeah, we can write … [Read more...]
