Phillies Ramblings: NLDS Edition

lidgeplayoff

In lieu of doing an all-out preview, I'm just going to do a NLDS version of the Ramblings and let the conversation move into the comments field. - I HATE HATE HATE how this series is set-up for us. For us to win, we have to do 1 of 2 things: Beat CC Sabathia, or win both road games. Milwaukee is 14-3 when Sabathia starts, and Milwaukee is 49-32 at home. Sound tough enough? Well, that's assuming we win Game 1. If we don't, we'll have to beat Sabathia AND win 2 road games. - Judging from … [Read more...]

Eagles Shoot Themselves in the Foot… About 57 Times… with a Machine Gun

foot-xray-41904

Wow, what a horrible performance. Instead of going on an all-out rant, I'll just list all the HUGE mistakes they made today. Or at least the ones that come to mind first, please feel free to add on... because there are more I am forgetting, and these are just moments, not things like "the running backs missed several blitzes". Not challenging Greg Olson's TD that made it 7-0. Was clearly not a catch. Not sure what the people upstairs were looking at DeSean Jackson muffs punt leading to 2nd … [Read more...]

Who do you want? Brewers or Dodgers?

National Phillies Baseball

The Phillies are back-to-back NL East Champions! What a game. I was at an engagement party, but I had myself hidden down in the basement going back and forth between the Phils and the Notre Dame/Purdue game. At one point, the bride's 8-year-old cousins came down, and then went up and reported that a "strange man was in the basement getting angry at the television," the bride responded "oh... that's just Pete." Good times all around. So we know we're in, and we know we're home. But we don't … [Read more...]

Phillies Reach 90 Wins: Universe Collaspes on Itself

ryan-howard1

We've talked a lot on this blog about the Phillies consistently being in the mid-80's in wins for the last several years, and it seemed for 95% of the season that this year would be no different. But, defying the odds, the Phillies went 11-3 in their last 14, to bring their record to 90-70. This is only the 12th time in franchise history that we've reached 90 wins. So let's just keep this post short and enjoy it for now. 1899: 94-58 1915: 90-62 (Lost WS to BOS 4-1) 1916: 91-61 1950: 91-63 … [Read more...]

Phillies Allergic to 90 Wins. Make Me Allergic to Happiness.

I'm too angry to post right now. Hamels vs. Hampton, Myers vs. Reyes, and we lose both. Don't care what the Mets do. Don't care what the Brewers do. Like our loyal reader, bski, said: it's not that we're losing, it's how we're losing. Maybe we'll sweep the Nationals and look great going into the playoffs. Maybe not. Right now, I'm not happy. Talk amongst yourselves. … [Read more...]

2008-09 NBA Preview: Utah Jazz

See all 2009 NBA team previews Utah Jazz 2007-08 Record: 54-28 Cool 2007 Stat: PG Deron Williams was only the 4th player in history to average 18 pts and 10 asts per game while shooting a blistering 50%+ from the field. The other 3 players are Steve Nash, Magic Johnson and Kevin Johnson. (Note: Williams ruined one of my best stats by falling under 19 ppg for the season. Had he stayed there, he and Carlos Boozer would have been the second pair of teammates to go for 20 ppg / 10 rpg and … [Read more...]
