No hardcore analysis of the game from me tonight because I only got to watch a small portion of it. I listened to about half of the first and third quarter on the radio. And watched the entire fourth quarter when I got home from my basketball game. So I will leave the analysis to you guys in the comments. As far as I can tell, it looked like a typical Sixers game this season. Got a big lead, lost it, turned the ball over and fell to a team many people thought they should beat. This … [Read more...]
Sixers vs. Bulls: Just Win a Freakin’ Game – Period
The Sixers are not a good team and just need to win a game to stop the bleeding. They are on their 2nd three-game losing streak in the first 16 games of the season. Keys to the game? Just one: play hard and act like you love playing the game of basketball. It's a privilege to be playing basketball and playing in the NBA. If you suck, you suck. Fine, I can live with that. But there is no excuse for the inconsistent effort and sluggish play we've seen so far this season. I have … [Read more...]
Sixers Get Destroyed by Boston
This will be the shortest after-game post because the Sixers don't deserve my effort right now after what I just watched and the effort they gave. Sixers vs. Boston Game Notes Elton Brand played very well with 18 points, 8 boards and no turnovers in 31 minutes. The Sixers (unofficially) gave up 15 uncontested half-court shots through three quarters. I stopped counting because I was only half paying attention to the game in the 4th quarter. Starting backcourt had 9 total turnovers (5 … [Read more...]
Sixers vs. Boston: Renewing a Rivalry or Just Getting Blasted?

Not long after the Sixers signed Elton Brand all the Sixers vs. Celtics rivalry talk started up. Boston now atop the league as the defending NBA champion after years of bad basketball. The Sixers late surge last season pushing the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the playoffs. The signing of Elton Brand, supposedly the "missing piece," the rivalry will be renewed - on paper. "On paper" was all the talk during the off-season. How good the Sixers looked. Why now is the time to … [Read more...]
Sixers Quick Take: Is the 76ers Defense REALLY that Bad?

To be blunt - NO. But I've been reading in the comments on our blog, on other blogs and in the forums that the problem with the Sixers right now is their defense. Their defensive rotations have been "atrocious." Their help defense has been late or completely lacking. They need to focus on defense. Etc., etc., etc. Personally I don't think they have been that bad. In fact I don't think the Sixers overall defense has been bad at all. Since I don't have access to the coaches film … [Read more...]
Sixers Lose a Tough One at Home to Orlando – 4 Reasons Why

Great game, terrible ending for the Sixers. I've been to most of the home games and this was by far the most entertaining and exciting Sixers game so far this season. They game out slow, gradually picked up the energy, dominated in the third quarter to take the lead, stayed with the Magic throughout the second half and came up 2 points short. Good effort that simply wasn't good enough to earn the "W." I read all the comments you guys posted throughout the game during breaks and read … [Read more...]
Sixers vs. Orlando: Can They Actually Beat a Good Team?
Sixers will be getting some pre-thanksgiving hoops in tonight against the Orlando Magic in a game I think they NEED to win. Of the good teams the Sixers will face over the next 6 games the Magic are probably the least scary (you can probably make the argument for Detroit as well). It's time for the Sixers to win a game at home against a good team. It's time for this team to put together a complete game against a good team. It's time for this team to start figuring it out on offense. It's … [Read more...]
Phillies Rumors: In the mix for A.J. Burnett?

Despite the fact that Phillies appear poised to have a very quiet off-season, it is clear that new GM Ruben Amaro is at least kicking the tires on many high level free agents. The latest appears to be hard-throwing righty A.J. Burnett. The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Burnett has narrowed his list of suitors to 6 teams: The Orioles, Yankees, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Braves and Phillies. It is surprising to see the Phillies on that list because of their long-standing policy to not give … [Read more...]
Red Hot Bobcats Frustrate, Beat Sixers
Quick pre-game post from me and you guys will get a different perspective with Pete taking care of the post game tonight. The Charlotte Bobcats are not very good and missing Jason Richardson. I guess we should expect the Sixers to win this game pretty easily on the road in the second part of a back-to-back. The Bobcats are starting two point guards so the Sixers have a huge size advantage which should lead to domination on the boards again. Expect to see Miller posting up D.J. Augustin … [Read more...]
So – Who’s Your Quarterback?

Do I have to write something about the Eagles? Ugh. Well, the sports gods have given us a swift kick of karma since the Phillies won the World Series, haven't they? Since the parade down Broad, the Eagles have gone 1-2-1, eliminated themselves from playoffs contention, and unceremoniously ended the Donovan McNabb era. They've gone from a Super Bowl sleeper to a team in need of a big make-over in just 4 weeks. I haven't seen this kind of turnaround with a team since the 1994 team went from … [Read more...]
