Sixers Take Care of Golden State – Finally Over .500

Samuel Dalembert

Sixers got the job done tonight at home against the Golden State Warriors, finally getting over the .500 mark.  I definitely thought this was a game the Sixers could let slip away if the Warriors were hitting their perimeter shots.  But the Sixers came out early, established their style of play and executed extremely well in the first half.  They lead 57-39 at half and held the highest scoring team in the league to 89 points on the night. Very good job of taking care of home court and … [Read more...]

Sixers vs. Golden State: This Game Scares Me

I don't know about you guys but this game worries me - a lot.  Last season the Sixers were 0-2 against the Warriors with an average deficit of 12 points (109.5 - 97.5).  Now this year's Warriors are without Al Harrington, Baron Davis and Monta Ellis which makes a huge difference.  But what I remember is the Sixers trying to run with this team and weren't able to keep up with that style of play.  Yes, the Sixers like to run themselves, but Don Nelson's entire offensive philosophy is to put … [Read more...]

Sixers Narrowly Slip Past the Los Angeles Clippers

The Sixers face off against Elton Brand's former team the 2-9 Los Angeles Clippers.  I will be heading down to the Wachovia Center in a little bit to see what Sixers team shows up. I wish I could say I was confident the Sixers will come out and beat up on the Clippers, but I'm not.  Although the Clippers haven't played all that well, they still have some nice talent.  Which means they certainly are capable of playing a solid game here and there if everyone is on the same page.  That just … [Read more...]

Phils Trade Once Top-Prospect Golson

john mayberry phillies

The Phils made their 2nd non-earth-shattering move of the offseason today, trading once top prospect OF Greg Golson to the Texas Rangers for once top prospect OF John Mayberry Jr. Golson is a classic example of the Phillies high risk, high reward drafting philosophy. He's is an incredible athlete who they drafted out of H.S. (2 spots ahead of Phil Hughes) hoping that he would develop his natural skills. Golson was disappointing for the majority of his minor league career (he's still only 22), … [Read more...]

Phillies Rumors: Ibanez on radar?

In what I would consider a pretty surprising development, both the Daily News and Inquirer today are reporting that the Phillies are showing interest in outfielder Raul Ibanez of the Seattle Mariners. What is surprising about the rumor is that Ibanez is a left-handed batter, and would make our already left-heavy line-up even more so. However, looking at the numbers, Ibanez actually hit better against lefties last year, with a .305 average, so he appears to be more a Chase Utley-type who can hit … [Read more...]

Phillies Stats: Who Is The Phillies Best Baserunner?

PHILS03RC10

With the Phillies off-season being a complete bore so far, I figured I'd start up some Phillies conversation based on some of the fantastically vast and detailed stats available on the internet these days. There are 2 main schools of thought on baseball. The first is that you can learn everything you need to know about a player by looking at his major stats (BA, HR, RBI, OBP%, etc...) and by watching him play everyday to look at hustle, attitude and clutch play. The other school of thought is … [Read more...]

Sixers Fall to Minnesota End 3-Game Winning Streak

You know that guy on the Sixers last year that many people got pretty high on towards the end of the season.  Well Rodney Carney is in Minnesota now playing 6.6 mpg (33 total minutes) in 5 games.  So he isn't even getting in every game on a young 1-8 squad.  Will he play tonight?  He hasn't played in a game since last Tuesday.  Maybe Timberwolves coach Randy Wittman will be sentimental and give him some burn against his former team. Although Minnesota has a poor record they are still a … [Read more...]

10 Games in: Who are the Philadelphia 76ers?

Old Sixers Logo

Our Philadelphia 76ers have played 10 games in the 2008-2009 season.  Their record: 5-5.  Disappointing?  Expected?  Good?  Considering their schedule I personally think they should be 7-3.  So for me they have been disappointing.  Here is the recent history of Sixers teams through 10 games. 2008: 3-7 2007: 4-6 2006: 6-4 2005: 4-6 2004: 5-5 2003: 7-3 2002: 5-5 2001: 10-0 2000: 4-6 I said before and during the first few games that I am giving this team a 10-game … [Read more...]

Football is Unofficially (Officially) Over in Philadelphia

Donovan Mcnabb fumbles against the Cincinnati Bengals

The Eagles and Bengals played to the first tie in the NFL in six years.  This was easily the worst football game I have personally watched.  Neither team wanted or deserved to win this game.  The Bengals were given the ball 4 times by McNabb.  One of which only called for 1 yard to convert it into 6 points. Terrible.  McNabb played poorly with 4 turnovers.  Andy Reid thought 58 pass attempts was a good idea compared to only 14 rushes for Westbrook who actually looked sharp on a few … [Read more...]

Phillies Rumors: Phils Talking To Burrell? Interested in Cruz?

While the Sixers try to figure out what kind of team they are going to be and the Eagles make us wonder if we are heading for an all-out rebuilding process, Ruben Amaro is channelling Pat Gillick, trying to find a couple tweaks that improve the World Champion Phils. It's looking more and more like the Phillies may be content to go into next year with a Dobbs/Jenkins/Stairs/Bruntlett quad-platoon in LF next year. However, they haven't completely given up on Pat Burrell. The Inquirer reported … [Read more...]
