The Phillies released Geoff Jenkins today, who, aside from his double in Game 5.2 of the World Series, was a complete bust. This has already started rumors that the Phillies might look to replace him with recently released Gary Sheffield. Sheffield would provide a right handed bat off the bench, and could spot start against tough lefties. Todd Zolecki reported the Phillies have contacted his agent. I personally think they will just keep Miguel Cairo as the right handed hitter instead of … [Read more...]
Phillies Rumors: Jenkins released, Sheffield an option, Park wins 5th spot
Sixers vs. Hawks: Big Game – Big Win
This is kind of a big game. The Sixers need to keep winning not only in an attempt to move up the standings but also to maintain where they are now (6th). A win tonight moves them only a half game behind the Heat (tied in the all-important loss column). They are only a game and a half up on Detroit with another head-to-head match up to come this weekend. Boston just shut down KG so there is a good chance they could slide a bit and finish with the 3rd seed. I think I'd still rather play … [Read more...]
Manuel Throws Out Interesting Line-Up
I haven't thought much about the line-up for the Phillies this season. I figured that Werth would bat 5th to break up the lefties, and Ibanez would hit 6th. But with the team struggling offensively in spring training, it appears Charlie Manuel is already exploring other options. Here is the line-up he put out there today against the Astros... Jimmy Rollins, SS Chase Utley, 2B Jayson Werth, RF Ryan Howard, 1B Raul Ibanez, LF Shane Victorino, CF Eric Bruntlett, 3B Carlos … [Read more...]
Sixers, Sixers, Sixers
So I haven't been giving the Sixers much attention lately because my focus has been on the NCAA tournament which I consider the best basketball of the year. Well things are going well there. We have a UNC vs. Nova Final Four. If I was wealthy I would be booking my flight, hotel and locking up tickets right now. Too bad reality sucks sometimes. I am second in my company bracket challenge with UNC as the winner, so good shape there. We don't have games for a whole week. That means I … [Read more...]
The ReclinerGM’s 2009 MLB Preview: NL East Quick Hits
Well, I've gotten through 25 of the 30 MLB teams in my preview, and well as parts one, two, three and four of my Phillies preview, and now, we are down to just the NL East teams. Since 72 of the Phillies games will come against the Mets, Braves, Marlins and Nats, I'm going to do this a little differently, comparing the teams position by position throughout this week leading up to Sunday's opener. However, even though I won't be doing individual team previews, I wanted to get all the "quick … [Read more...]
NOVA LIKE WOAH-VA!

Going to keep this short, but I wanted to have a place for people to talk this week until we get a final four preview up. Aaron McKie and Eddie Jones couldn't do it. Jameer and Delonte couldn't do it. Randy Foye, Allen Ray and Kyle Lowry couldn't do it. But tonight, Scottie Reynolds, Dante Cunningham, Dwayne Anderson and Corey Fisher (among others) did it. Jay Wright and the Villanova Wildcats are heading the to Final Four, the first for a Big-5 team since Nova won it all in … [Read more...]
Sixers vs. Bobcats Game Day Chat
That's all this post really is. A place for you guys to discuss the game. Pete and I will be at the Wachovia center all day today for the Battle on Broad Street competition for Junior Achievement. We are representing our company with two other people in a 4-man shooting competition NCAA bracket, single-elimination style. Furthermore we are still fired up over Nova's dismantling of the Dukies. Chances are we won't watch much Sixers tonight as they will be taking a back seat to the … [Read more...]

Where will you be at 9:57 p.m. tonight? I know where you should be! Planted firmly in front of your TV with the dial tuned to CBS waiting eagerly for the Villanova - Duke game. I know many of you are Sixers fans, Eagles fans and Phillies fans. But I also know you are basketball fans and sports fans. Well, THE Philly sports event of the night is the Sweet 16 match-up between the Wildcats and the Blue Devils. So let's get into it... The Match Up Duke I watch a ton of ACC play … [Read more...]
Sixers vs. Timberwolves: Cupcake Game We Have Been Trained Not to Overlook
Guys this is going to be really quick. The Sixers better win. Period. This is a game we all expect the Sixers to win, but deep down have been hurt by this team enough that we still hold a small thought that they could put together a clunker and let this undermanned and less talented Minnesota team come in our building and steal a win. No more times for clunkers. No more Golden State type losses. Every game against a sup par opponent for the remainder of the season must be a one. … [Read more...]
