Phillies due my bidding, sweep Nats

moyer250

The Phils will get back to playing MLB teams tomorrow, but they got a nice break this weekend, sweeping the AAA-pitching, A-fielding Washington Nationals at home. Lots of stuff to talk about including Moyer's 250th win, Lidge's brief resurgence and Ryan Howard's ridiculous home runs.  2009: 28-20 2008: 26-22 2007: 24-24 Player of the Series: Jamie Moyer (6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 4 K, 250th career win) Goat of the Series: n/a  The Good News Congrats to Jamie Moyer on his 250th career … [Read more...]

Eddie Jordan Sixers New Head Coach

ESPN report Dei Lynam is reporting it is a 3-year deal.  Press conference for the announcement tomorrow around noon.  Comcsst reported the actual introduction of Eddie Jordan wouldn't come until Monday. Hmmm.... Here was my initial post on Eddie Jordan and you guys can see in the left side bar only 4 out of 251 people were in favor of Jordan.  With that said I was and am prepared to give anyone a fair chance. I will leave it at that for now.  Need to relax after working out, eat … [Read more...]

Phils try not to disappoint vs. Nats

I declined to write a series review of the Marlins series because it made me entirely too angry. I was already teetering on the edge after Lidge nearly single-handedly brought us from a sweep of the Yankees to losing 2 of 3, so it didn't take much. However, losing 2 of 3 at home against a team that has been the worst in baseball over the past month, against sub-par starting pitching, really makes me crazy. So hence, no review.  Now the trick for the Phillies will be not doing it again, as … [Read more...]

Where will Starter help come from? Probably one of these guys…

Jamie Moyer has a 7.42 ERA. Joe Blanton has a 6.14 ERA. Brett Myers may be out 2 months, or maybe the whole season. Cole Hamels is coming off a season where he pitched 262.1 IP. J.A. Happ just made 6th career start. Anyone looking at that and thinking repeat? Or, like me, are you looking at that and thinking, 'when exactly is the bottom going to fall out?' The news of Brett Myers injury is really a big-time blow to this team. He hadn't been spectacular, but he had been our only … [Read more...]

Phillies Rumors: Myers out…Halladay, Oswalt, Peavy in?

UPDATE: Brett Myers possibly lost for several months and/or the season with hip surgery likely. This might increase the urgency for the team to get something done.  I'm looking to do a post (edit, it's done, here is it) sometime soon about the solutions to the Phillies pitching situation, but one that are certainly exploring now is getting one through trade. This is from Jayson Stark's Rumblings and Grumblings... Phil 'er up: Is there a prominent starting pitcher in the July shoppers' … [Read more...]

Who is Dwane Casey and Why Has He Been Interviewed a Second Time for the Sixers’ Head Coaching Position?

Dwane Casey Sixers Head Coaching Candidate

First let me start with the news that Phil Jasner is reporting. Dwane Casey, who has just completed his first season as an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks, has had a second interview for the 76ers' vacant coaching job, according to a source familiar with the situation. Exactly when or where the second session with Sixers president/general manager Ed Stefanski took place remains unclear. The first meting came last week in Santa Monica, Ca. while Stefanski was in the area scouting a group … [Read more...]

Phillies Minor Update:
How the Top Prospects are Faring

dominic-brown

This will be my first of 3-4 prospect updates throughout the season. I did my top-10 list prior to the season, and will re-rank players at my next update, but this is just a review of which prospects are playing well and which are disappointing. The Phillies have an improving system and probably the deepest system they've had in some time (thanks, Pat Gillick!). I've reviewed 17 players here, and I think there is a good chance we'll see most of them in the majors at some point. Please feel … [Read more...]

We won how? Phils starters, Ruiz, take series from Yanks

Well that was certainly an exciting series, and CERTAINLY more exciting than it should have been. You had great pitching, lots of HR, a couple plays at the plate, clutch hits, blown saves, a first-MLB-game HR and Phillies fans outcheering Yankees fans.  The Phils won 2 of 3, but it really should have been a sweep, with Brad Lidge giving up 3 runs before getting even the 2nd out on Saturday. But you can't do too much complaining about getting 2 out of 3 in New York against a team coming in on … [Read more...]

Phils overpower Reds, head to the Bronx

I'm changing the format (really just the order) a little bit and I'm going to start doing my series-wrap and next-series preview in the same post. 2009: 22-17 2008: 21-18 2007: 19-20 Player of the Series: Chase Utley (4 for 12, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R) Goat of the Series: Jayson Werth (0 for 10, 4 K) Good News Real good series win for the Phils. Away against a good team with our 2 horrible pitchers going. Well done by the offense and bullpen. Jimmy is coming around a bit, has hits in … [Read more...]
