Sixers vs. Nets: Who Cares…Stefanski and Jordan on the Hot Seat Rumor

The Sixers actually will be playing the New Jersey Nets while they are healthy.  The Sixers were lucky to have faced the Nets twice in the early going with a very limited team missing impact players.  That might not be the case today. Everyone is expected play with Devin Harris being the only possible hold out.  He has a wrist injury and has missed the last few games.  He could return tonight against the Sixers though and is a game-time-decision. The Sixers are reeling having lost 3 … [Read more...]

ReclinerGM’s 2010 MLB Preview

baseball 2010

With very few impactful free agents still out there and big trades unlikely, it's probably a safe time to kick off my 2010 MLB Preview. Unlike 2008 and 2009, I will not be doing an individual preview for each of the 30 teams. Instead, I will do an individual preview for each of the NL East teams and then a division preview for the other 5 divisions. Mixed in, I will have a 4-part Phillies preview (while finishing off the prospect rankings and "best Phillies team ever" tourny) and … [Read more...]

Sixers vs. Lakers Game Thread

Dannie is off doing God knows what in Atlantic City - so he asked me to post a game thread so you guys would have somewhere to talk about the beat down we are going to receive from Kobe and Co. tonight. Or at least I hope it's a beat down as I am now firmly entrenched in the "get the highest draft pick possible" camp. Two possible discussion points: As Philly.com asked earlier today: What would the Sixers look like right now if they had drafted Kobe, not Iverson, #1 in 1996? … [Read more...]

20 Games In: How Nova’s Players Rank

scottienova

Villanova is off to the best start in team history (19-1) - in large part because of their tremendous depth. The Cats have gone 11-deep at times, and are dominating the 2nd half of games, as they demonstrated against St. Johns and Notre Dame last week, because they are usually more fresh than the other team. With so many players on the court and 6 of them new from last year it has been interesting to see how they are playing compared to what I was expecting when the season started. I … [Read more...]

2010 Prospect Rankings Starting To Emerge

This past week, a ton of top-100 prospect lists have been published. Instead of doing a post every time one comes out, I've consolidated them all together here... For those who won't let the Cliff Lee trade go (or as I call it, the Roy Halladay trade, separate or not), I've included the prospects we gave to the Indians and Blue Jays as well (if mentioned). AOL FanHouse Top 100 (link) #15. Kyle Drabek, Blue Jays #19. Domonic Brown, Phillies Brown is often described as a scout's … [Read more...]

Phillies Top 20 Prospects for 2010:
#4, Tyson Gillies, OF

Tyson Gillies Phillies

Basic Info Age: 21 Height/Weight: 6'2'', 190lbs Hometown: Vancouver, British Columbia How Acquired: Cliff Lee trade Stats Gillies numbers were superb last year. Only 4 players in the entire minor leagues hit over .340 in 400+ PA. Gillies, at 20, was the youngest of the 4. Only 5 players had a .430 OBP in 400+ PA. Only 10 players hit .300+ while stealing 40+ bases as well. His numbers were tremendous. However, like with J.C. Ramirez, his numbers need to be taken with a grain of … [Read more...]

Sixers vs. Bucks Game Thread

jrue-holiday-brandon-jennings

The Sixers have 3 games left in the month: Bucks Lakers Nets Currently they are 6-6 in January, meaning they are going for their first legit winning month of the season (2-1 in October doesn't count!). We can just assume they lose to the Lakers.  That means winning tonight against the Bucks is the only likely way they have a chance to achieve a plus .500 record this month at 8-7. I guess we can call that improvement, right? October: 2-1 November: 3-12 December: … [Read more...]

This is What It’s All About for the Sixers

click image to enlarge Now obviously the headline is just to get your attention and me having a little fun. The above image was the outcome of my first try playing ESPN's NBA lottery.  And it will also be my last.  I am trying to create some good karma and burn that image into my mind because we are going to need that kind of good fortune to turn this sorry franchise around. On a semi serious note though, Ford has the Sixers taking Wesley Johnson with the 5th pick in his first mock … [Read more...]

Sixers vs. Pacers Part 2

Sixers took the first of the home-and-and with the Pacers now the need to finish them off at home tonight. Couple things for the game... Will Danny Granger play as poorly as he did on Saturday?  Better question, can Iguodala force him to? Will Iguodala stop acting like he is Ray Allen and play his offensive strengths? Can we keep up with their three point shooting?  Last game the Sixers were 7-11 while the Pacers were 10-27. Jrue needs to learn how to hone his defensive … [Read more...]

Phillies Top 20 Prospects for 2010:
#5, Anthony Gose, OF

Gose, Anthony

Basic Info Age: 19 Height/Weight: 6'1'', 190lbs Hometown: Bellflower, CA How Acquired: 2nd round pick in 2008 draft Stats There really is only one number here that stands out: 76 stolen bases. That number led the minor leagues, every team and every level, in 2009. What's more impressive is that he did it as an 18-year old in Single-A. He is currently lacking in a couple other areas, most notably SLG% and walks, but he's already a level or two ahead of most kids his age and has … [Read more...]
