Phils Salvage One, Welcome In
First Place Mets?

OK - so I wrote a lot and then my work computer didn't save it, and now I'm ticked off, so this is unfortunately going to be shorter than it was before (or fortunately, depending on how much you like these). I had a good joke here about the world being upside down because the Phillies were signing players to $25 million-a-year contracts and the Mets were in first. Pretend it was funny. 2010: 12-9 2009: 11-10 2008: 11-10 2007: 9-12 The Good News Despite playing like crap, we are … [Read more...]

Eagles Draft Profile: WR Riley Cooper

MT-RILEY-COOPER_JPG_158948c

WR Riley Cooper, Florida Height: 6'3/8" Weight: 223 lbs Production Cooper was buried on the depth chart at Florida his first three years behind the likes of Andre Caldwell, Louis Murphy, and Percy Harvin.  In 2006, his first season with the Gators, he only caught 4 passes for 92 yards in mop-up duty against Western Carolina and Central Florida and didn't see the field the rest of the season.  In 2007, Cooper only played in 4 games and the majority of his playing time came in garbage … [Read more...]

Roy Halladay Greatness Watch: 5 Starts In

Halladay watch 1

Explanation of the Greatness Watch can be found on original post. Well, I jinxed him. Sorry. That one is on me. Halladay lost his first game of the year, allowing 5 runs in 7 innings. He allowed 5 or more runs 4 times last year, each time going at least 6 innings. Despite this, he's still 4th in the rankings after 5 starts. Results are below. Stats Rankings … [Read more...]

Quick Sixers Coaching Update – and More?

Real quick here's what Stefanski has been up to: Philadelphia GM Ed Stefanski has been conducting the preliminary stages of a 76ers coaching search – gathering information, reaching out to candidates – but hasn’t had any serious conversations with candidates. His top choice would be Jeff Van Gundy, but it’s becoming clearer that Van Gundy just isn’t interested in returning to coaching next season. One candidate that Stefanski has targeted is popular ex-76er Doug Collins, and the GM … [Read more...]

Phillies Ink Ryan Howard To 5 Year,
$125 Million Extension

Ryan Howard will be a Phillie through 2016. The Phillies announced a surprising extension today for Ryan Howard that will pay him $125 million from 2012-2016. I've maintained all along that I thought the Phillies would either trade Howard or let him walk once his contract was up. Players of his size don't tend to age well, and when it goes, it goes fast (see David Ortiz, Mo Vaughn, etc). Howard will be 36 during the final year of the contract, so there is certainly some risk involved, but … [Read more...]

Bullpen Falters As Phils Drop Series,
Head to San Fran

In what seemed like a winnable series, the Phillies were nearly swept, if not for the heroics of Jayson Werth on Saturday. The Phillies are still 1.5 games up in the division, but they are 4-5 in their last 9, and now 3 teams (Marlins, Mets, Nats) sit tied in 2nd place. The Braves are in last, 3 games out, after being swept by the suddenly surging Mets. 2010: 11-7 2009: 10-8 2008: 8-10 2007: 7-11 The Good News If Jayson Werth keeps playing like this, both offensively and … [Read more...]

ReclinerGM’s Eagles 2010 Draft Review

Well - that was a lot to take in. First the Eagles trade up to not take Earl Thomas, the player everyone thought they were going after. Then, after selecting Nate Allen, they trade down several times, turning their #55 pick into five players and a 5th rounder in 2011. For how they did it, I suggest you read this quick post by Bleeding Green Nation, who sums it up better than I could. Finally, in a draft where we could actually use some OL-men, Andy Reid selects none. I wanted the … [Read more...]

Starters Lead The Way To Series Win Over Braves

I didn't think that was the headline I would be writing with Kyle Kendrick and Jamie Moyer going against the Braves, but both pitchers put together great performances. If not for Ryan Madson giving up 3 runs in about 2 pitches with 2 out in the 9th, this would have been a huge early season statement. 2010: 10-5 2009: 7-8 2008: 7-8 2007: 4-11 The Good News The 3 starting pitchers combined for an amazing 23 innings without giving up an earned run (Moyer gave up 2 un-earned). Kendrick … [Read more...]

Eagles Trade Up For DE Brandon Graham

Philadelphia Eagles Brandon Graham

There is a lot to digest with the Eagles decision to move up and draft DE Brandon Graham. It's late - so I'm just going to bullet point it and keep it short. I'm perfectly fine with Brandon Graham as the pick. He's at a position of need, and by all accounts, he can get to the QB. He had 28 sacks in his final 3 seasons at Michigan, no small feat in the Big 10, a conference usually loaded with good offensive lineman. I've read a lot of good things about him and I think he's a safe pick. That … [Read more...]

The Roy Halladay Greatness Watch

Halladay watch 1

This might be over the top, but I really don't care. The Roy Halladay full-out love-fest has started, and instead of just writing in my series write-ups every week how great he was, I wanted to create something a little more sophisticated. What I'm going to do is follow Halladay start-by-start and compare him to what I believe to be the 9 of the greatest pitching seasons of the last 20 years. I personally believe these are the 8 best (plus Curt Schilling, who had the best Phillies pitching … [Read more...]
