ReclinerGM’s 2010 Eagles Draft Preview

Doing a preview for an Eagles' draft is like trying to hit a good knuckle-ball. You have to try your best, but your efforts are probably pointless and you are probably going to end up looking stupid. So I'm going to try my best. In case you were confused with the above statement, let me lay out quickly why predicting an Eagles draft is nearly impossible: They trade their picks, a lot. And with the full day between Round 1 and Round 2 this year, I think it's likely you could see even … [Read more...]

Eagles 3-Round Mock Draft Round-Up

eagles mocks

I see this draft as a 3-round draft for the Eagles. After doing my research for the Draft History post, I concluded that it is realistic to expect the Eagles to draft 3 future starters (2 above average starters) in their first 5 picks (all in the first 3 rounds). It would be my personal preference that all 3 of those guys be on the defensive side of the ball. Because of this, I only looked for mocks that went 3-rounds deep for this post. Incredibly, I was able to find 9, with the majority of … [Read more...]

Andy Reid’s Drafts Analysis: What Positions Does He Value Most?

eagles draft position

I got an e-mail from reader Paul R. yesterday with some interesting data on Andy Reid's drafts. I wanted to share it as it is a slightly different way of looking at it. Here's how he set it up: I also have too much time on my hands and decided to do a proper analysis of which positions the Andy Reid Eagles value the most in the draft. Analyzing picks by rounds can be misleading because there is a big difference in picking a QB #2 (McNabb) and a DT #31 (Patterson), but both would count as a 1st … [Read more...]

Eagles Acquire Ernie Sims

The Eagles made their first big draft move a couple days before the draft even started. They acquired OLB Ernie Sims from the Lions for an undisclosed draft pick (update: it's been disclosed, only a 5th rounder, wow). Sims was the 9th overall pick in the 2006 draft for the Lions. He was 4th in the NFL in tackles in 2007, but his performance dipped a little in 2008. He was hampered by injuries last year and only recorded 49 tackles. He's only 25 and very talented. I'm not sure exactly … [Read more...]

Phils Offense Stagnant In First Series Loss

That's more like April Phillies baseball! The cold came in, and the Phils bats went silent, as they often have in the early spring. 2010: 8-4 2009: 6-6 2008: 6-6 2007: 3-9 The Good News Obviously Cole Hamels' start is the best news of the series. He used all 4 pitches effectively and looked in control on the mound. I don't expect 8 IP, 2 ER every start, but you really couldn't have asked for a more promising performance, win or lose. It might get redundant to put Halladay here … [Read more...]

Do You Even Care About the Fallout?

In typical fashion the Philly media is reporting on Sixers news that should have been exposed during the season. I'm just curious if you even care at this point?  Or are you fully focused on forgetting this forgettable season and thinking towards the coaching search, the draft, the off-season and this teams prospects for next season? Do you care that Samuel Dalembert was habitually late to meetings and practices?  That while he was benched a few times he was never fined by Jordan or the … [Read more...]

Eagles Draft Preview: Andy Reid’s Complete Draft History

eagles draft summary

With the biggest draft in recent Eagles memory coming up, I figured I should do a couple posts on it. For this first one, I wanted to look back and really see how the Eagles' drafts have looked since Andy Reid took over. Below you will find a chart of the 91 players the Eagles have drafted under Reid. They are sorted by round and then by impact. Each color represents a different level of impact on the team. There is obviously some of my personal opinion in here (like Sheldon Brown being rated … [Read more...]

Now The Season Really Starts

The Phillies deserve a lot of credit for coming out and playing the way they have in the first 9 games. There have been many times over the last several years where they haven't played well in April, regardless of who they were playing. So the 7-2 start shouldn't be dismissed because it was against bad teams. However - these next 12 games against the Marlins, Braves, D-Backs and Giants should give us a better idea of how good this team can be and what areas need to be addressed. 2010: … [Read more...]

Who Would Want to Coach the Sixers?

This seems to be a big questions turning up in the comments. Why would xyz previously successful coach want to man the bench of the 76ers? Good question, let's talk about it. Who Are We Talking About? We obviously aren't talking about guys looking to become a first time head coach or guys looking for a second chance or third chance to head up a squad.  We are talking about the Avery Johnsons, Doug Collins and Jeff Van Gundys of the world. What Are Their Options? Below are the options for … [Read more...]
