Perfect!

Halladay perfect

I wasn't going to write anything this weekend, but Roy Halladay would have none of it. Halladay pitched the 20th perfect game in MLB history and the 2nd in Phillies history tonight as the Phillies beat the Marlins 1-0. I only saw the first 2, and the final innings of the game, so I can't give an in-depth analysis, but for a performance for the ages, getting too in depth isn't really necessary. Bill Lyon of the Inquirer said it better than I could: He was, by turns, a painter, brushing … [Read more...]

Now Let’s Never Speak Of It Again

phillies suck

2010: 26-20 2009: 26-20 2008: 24-22 2007: 23-23 There is no need to re-live that series. There will be no good news/bad news. I will say only this: I'm not worried. We are still in first place, we are still on pace with the last couple seasons. This kind of stuff happens every year to the Phillies, and every other baseball team. Not usually in such dramatic fashion (scoring ZERO runs), but the end result is the same. The important thing is that they balance it out at some point with a long … [Read more...]

Athletic Testing: How Does Evan Turner Compare?

Evan Turner Measurements Comparison

The Sixers really only have two prospects to choose from with the #2 pick.  Derrick Favors and Evan Turner.  Pete already did an analysis of how Derrick Favors compares to other power forwards and Centers in the last decade.  Now it's time to take a look at Evan Turner. Where Pete was most interested in seeing how explosive a player Derrick Favors could be. I wanted to see why people were so down on Turner's athletic ability coming out of college. I'll keep the format consistent with … [Read more...]

Athletic Testing Out: How Does Favors Compare?

height weight

The athletic testing is finally out, and there are some interesting things to discuss. I (Pete, not Dannie) was most interested in seeing just how explosive a player Derrick Favors could be. I wanted to see how he matched up against other player of his size and caliber in recent drafts. Below you will find 2 charts with the 15 players (plus Favors) that meet the following criteria: Drafted from 2000-2009 Drafted in top-10 Height with shoes is 6' 9.75'' to 6' 11.75'' Primary … [Read more...]

Sixers Leaning Towards Favors?

Derrick Favors

That is exactly what Chad Ford is reporting in his latest mock draft... Analysis: I've heard various sources make pretty forceful arguments that three different players are second on the 76ers' board: Evan Turner, DeMarcus Cousins and Derrick Favors. At times, I've been persuaded by all three. But now it looks like the Sixers are leaning toward Favors, according to what I was told on Monday by a credible source familiar with coach Doug Collins' thinking. Turner isn't a great fit next to … [Read more...]

Phillies Can’t Stop Hex Vs. Sox

Well, that's it. We are never beating the Red Sox in a series. It's just not going to happen. I've come to terms with it, and all of you probably should too. 2010: 26-17 2009: 24-19 2008: 24-19 2007: 21-22 The Good News Since there is pretty much nothing good to say about the offense here, let's talk about Cole Hamels. Hamels is throwing the ball harder (91.0 mph avg. fastball) than he has since his rookie season in 2006 (91.3 mph). The result is his highest K/9 rate (9.42) since, … [Read more...]

Flyers Head To Stanley Cup! Force First ReclinerGM Hockey Post Ever!

Montreal+Canadiens+v+Philadelphia+Flyers+Game+h98bWf8cyttl

As you guys know, we don't cover hockey here and neither Dannie nor I would consider ourselves hockey "fans." I used to be in middle school. I own a John LeClair jersey that no longer fits me.  There are lots of reasons I'm not a huge fan of the sport (or at least the regular season), but I won't get into that here. However, I do watch the Flyers in the playoffs and have obviously enjoyed this fantastic run by the 7th seeded Flyers, who tonight punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals … [Read more...]

Draft Prospect Measurements Released: Where Sixers Targets Stand

draft measurements

DraftExpress has released the official measurements from the Chicago combine. Just height/weight/wingspan, etc... no vertical, shuttle etc. While these seem trivial, it's always interesting to put an exact number on these things when the college numbers can often be fudged. Also, wingspan is not a commonly reported item, but in many cases is more important than height. Here are how the prospects that are relavant to the Sixers measured out. I've included their best comparison (draftexpress … [Read more...]

Phillies Looking To Change Interleague Luck

The Phillies offense fell dormant for 2 nights, but thankfully that's all it lasted, as they came back to split the series' with the Cubs and Pirates. Now comes the hard part. The Phillies are 30-51 in interleague play with Charlie Manuel as manager and 3-12 against the Red Sox. If there was ever a time to change their luck, it's this series, as the Red Sox are only 22-20, we are playing at home and we get their 3 worst starters. 2010: 25-15 2009: 23-17 2008: 22-18 2007: 20-20 The Good … [Read more...]
