Your New Sixers’ Head Coach: Doug Collins

WIZARDS HEAT

Philly.com is reporting that Doug Collins has officially agreed to terms to be the next coach of the Sixers.  It's a 4-year deal. Expect an announcement tomorrow and a presser on Monday. Collins, 58, has a 332-287 record in 8 seasons with the Bulls, Pistons and Wizards. He made the playoffs in 5 of those 8 seasons. When he hasn't been coaching, he's been one of the best color commentators in any sport. Dannie will have a more in-depth post up later, but I wanted to get something up … [Read more...]

Theoretical Sixers Question and Discussion

What would you be willing to part with to rid ourselves of Elton Brand? This came up yesterday in a conversation I had with Pete before the lottery took place.  Now that it has, the question is a bit more relevant and intriguing to discuss further. "I don't think we need a lot of visits [from potential picks]. It's not the same now, IF we keep the pick there's not a lot of reason to bring in a lot of people, but maybe we do that if we hear from other teams and we hear offers. We need to … [Read more...]

Turner, Favors or Someone Else:
Is There Really a Debate?

The Sixers didn't win the lottery but they came damn close and are in position to draft an impact player. Whether that be someone that can step right in a contribute like Evan Turner or someone with monster potential to change the franchise in a few years like Derrick Favors, it's going to be pretty hard for the Sixers screw this up. Pete and I are in agreement that Evan Turner is the pick, hands down. But who do you want?  More importantly, why?  How do you envision the player you … [Read more...]

The Coolest Painting Ever

Phillies Scene

(click on picture for full size) Many of you may have seen this painting already down at the ballpark. I saw it for the first time yesterday when I went down with Dannie. It is in the Suite/Diamond Club lobby, right above the stairs going down to the club. I came home and was able to trace it to a artist named Jamie Cooper who, as you can see if you click through, did mostly Rugby paintings prior. Just an incredibly cool piece of art - I hope they start selling prints one day. In case … [Read more...]

Sixers Lottery Thread:
We Need Some Good Luck

sixers-john-wall

Tonight is the night when we find out if we will land John Wall and the like or Cole Aldrich. According to Pete "we're screwed." Sadly, that's seems to be the sentiment surrounding this franchise.  Everyone is down on them and good luck doesn't seem likely.  But I reserve hope. What We're Playing For The Sixers are sitting in the 6th spot in a 5-man draft.  The prizes: John Wall Evan Turner Derrick Favors Wesley Johnson DeMarcus Cousins If the ball bounces the … [Read more...]

Phils Welcome Back Rollins After Successful Trip

The Phillies are in a comfortable position at the moment. They have the 3rd best record in baseball, and lead the NL East by 4 games, twice the margin of any other division leader. Jimmy Rollins returns this week, perhaps even tonight, and J.A. Happ is on the way in a couple weeks. However, after the Pirates and Cubs this week, the Phillies have 9 straight competitive series (BOS, NYM, FLA, ATL, SDP, FLA, BOS, NYY, MIN) including interleague play, where we have gotten smoked the last two years, … [Read more...]

Phils Split With Rockies, Go to Reunite with Wolf Pack

The Phils series with the Rockies was cut short by some crazy weather. Roy Halladay struggled, giving up 10 hits, but it looked like we might pull it out before he gave up a 2-run single to Brad Hawpe. Since it was only a two game series, this is going to be light on the Good News / Bad News, and heavy on the Prospect Update. 2010: 20-13 2009: 17-16 2008: 19-14 2007: 14-19 The Good News The best news is that Jimmy Rollins is expected to return when we return home, perhaps as … [Read more...]

Moyer Grabs Spotlight As Phils Finish 7-3 Homestand

I'm a lot short on time today - so this will be an abbreviated review/preview with a heavy emphasis on Jamie Moyer's truly unbelievable night. 2010: 19-12 2009: 16-15 2008: 17-14 2007: 14-17 The Good News 47-year-old Jamie Moyer's 2-hit shut-out of the Atlanta Braves was probably the most improbable event you'll see in baseball this year. And yes, that includes Dallas Braden's perfect game. We all know that Moyer set the record for the oldest pitcher to throw a shut-out (this … [Read more...]

Sixers Head Coaching Vacancy:
The ‘Real’ Candidates

It's been over two weeks since the Sixers started their head coaching search.  The result: two interviews, a few candidates self selecting themselves out and some rumors of upcoming interviews. Previously I had been keeping tabs on all the rumors and interviews on my massive Sixers head coaching resource, but that started to get too messy. This post will be dedicated to keep track of all that going forward - and a poll! Officially Interviewed Doug Collins on 5/1/10 - Stefanski meet with … [Read more...]

Phils Tame Pujols, Welcome In Struggling Braves

It's been feast or famine for the Phillies pitchers this year. Against the Cardinals, they sent a message that the road to the Pennant still runs through Philadelphia. The starters combined for a 1.88 ERA over 28.2 IP as the Phillies won the final 3 games of the series and now stand just 1/2 game behind the Cardinals (and Giants) for the best record in the NL. 2010: 17-11 2009: 15-13 2008: 15-13 2007: 13-15 The Good News Lots of good news to get to, but I've got to say this first. … [Read more...]
