The ReclinerGM Turns 1 Million

10000000

Earlier this week ReclinerGM got it's 1 millionth hit. Hard to imagine for us when we started out 2 1/2 years ago with this first post, which was only read by friends and family (and to this day only has 374 hits). We wanted to thank all our loyal readers who really make this a great place for intelligent sports discussion. We started the blog because we were sick of listening to radio and tv personalities spew out (mostly) garbage to stir up controversy without any hint of analysis or … [Read more...]

Where Will They All Land?

NBA free agency starts Thursday. Not sure if you guys had heard about it. The way this off-season is looking like it will play out, it seems like the NBA might as well just re-draft the entire league and give the teams with the most cap room the first picks. Right now, all sorts of reports of floating around. LeBron and Bosh to the Bulls. LeBron/Wade/Bosh to the Heat. Joe Johnson/Amare to the Knicks. The Mavs want a shot at LeBron. The Nets want to make a huge splash. The Wolves want Rudy … [Read more...]

Are They Back? Hot Phils Face 1st Place Reds – And, An NL All-Star Projection

2010 NL All-Star Roster

The Phillies are showing signs of coming out of the painful slump they've been in the last month or so. They are 9-4 in their last 13 games and have scored over 5 runs in 9 of those games (8-1) and over 7 in 7 of them (6-1). 2010: 40-33 2009: 39-34 2008: 42-31 2007: 38-35 Instead of Good News / Bad News (I feel it gets a little mundane when you do it in back-to-back series), I'm going to help Charlie Manuel out picking the NL All-Star team. Let's start with the likely starters based … [Read more...]

Phils Sweep Tribe, Can They Keep It Going?

Adding to the mountain of proof that the Phillies' players and brass are frequent visitors to ReclinerGM, the mere mention of missing the playoffs in last series' post inspired them to get going to sweep the Indians. That or Jimmy Rollins' return and the fact that the Indians kind of suck. 2010: 38-32 2009: 37-33 2008: 41-29 2007: 36-34 The Good News Jimmy's back! And in style (of course). Ryan Howard has had an excellent June, hitting .325 with a 1.018 OPS. Still waiting for the … [Read more...]

2010 Sixers Draft

mock draft 20

Today is draft day, finally.  I think it's safe to say we've been looking forward to today for almost an entire season - right? This will be your place to discuss any and everything Sixers and the draft and Pete and I will be adding stuff ongoing. The Sixers Top 2010 Draft Prospects This is the small pool of players the Sixers are likely to draft from. They could simply select someone with with their #2 pick or construct some out-of-the-box trade that nets them one of these guys (or two) … [Read more...]

9 Reasons to Draft Evan Turner and Make Him the Starting Point Guard

Draft Evan Turner.  Okay that makes sense.  Make him the starting point guard?!?  Huh?  You have some explaining to do... Note: here is part I of this argument. One Fan's Opinion: 9 Reasons to Draft Evan Turner and Make Him the Starting Point Guard 9. In an article in the Inquirer by Dick Jerardi, an Atlanta Hawks scout agrees with me and says that Evan Turner is a point guard. Stefanski disagrees with this idea, and thinks that Turner is fully capable of playing multiple positions … [Read more...]

One Fan’s Opinion: Draft Evan Turner – and Make Him the Starting Point Guard

Penny Hardaway

I actually liked DeMarcus Cousins more than Evan Turner. I wasn't all that impressed with what I'd read about Turner. The next Brandon Roy? That would be nice, but that's just it – only “nice”. If Brandon Roy is your best player, I don't think you're winning a championship, or maybe even making the conference Finals, unless Kobe, Deron Williams, Chris Paul and Kevin Durant all die sometime during the 2010-2011 season. Turner as the next Grant Hill? An upgrade from Brandon Roy for … [Read more...]

Will The Phillies Make The Playoffs?

After making the post-season the last 3 years, and coming in to this season with what, on paper, looked like a better team than any of those 3 - it seemed to be a given that the Phillies would make the post-season one way or another. It doesn't seem that way anymore. The Phillies sit 5.5 games behind the Braves for 1st in the NL East and 3 behind the Mets for the Wild Card. It's very early, and we know that the Phillies are capable of long runs, but we aren't exactly sitting pretty with … [Read more...]

Taylor King To Leave Villanova

Taylor King is having a tough time sticking around any college basketball program. Villanova announced that King would leave the program due to "personal reasons." Scuttlebutt around the internet suggests this isn't really the case. Stories abound that King was a hard partier who didn't take basketball seriously and may or may not have failed a drug test or two. There is also a story going around that he got in Jay's doghouse by prank calling him (read: drunk dialing) in the middle of the … [Read more...]

Phillies End Tough Stretch Against Twins

This is going to be short post for the weekend series. The Phillies entered a 16-game stretch on June 4th that, with the way they were playing, I thought could really bury them in the standings. I hoped for an 8-8 result at least and right now they sit at 6-6 (with a rain-out) after finally coming around in Yankee Stadium (with the help of really fantastic starts by Moyer and Kendrick). Their final test is the Minnesota Twins, who sit at 38-28 behind perennial MVP candidates Joe Mauer … [Read more...]
