Solid win for the Sixers, but obviously nothing to go crazy about, which is a good thing. I have been preaching that the expectation for the team has shifted. At this point we should expect the 76ers to compete with anyone every night and beat good teams in the process. Tonight facing a Detroit squad who was clearly resting their starters, the Sixers handled business.
Although this wasn’t a playoff type game for either team, it was important for the Sixers to come out and play with that type of intensity. Right now it’s about consistency and building momentum going into the post season. The Sixers players could have easily had a mental letdown seeing the Piston reserves on the court for a large part of the game. The maturity this team has shown is exactly why they didn’t.
Thoughts on the game:
- Andre Iguodala is playing like one of the top 10 players in the NBA right now. He always filled up the stat sheet, but often times it was done quietly and at less important times of the game. Watching him play now I feel like his overall game impact has grown to a whole new level. He has stepped his game up on the floor (especially his 3pt shooting) but more importantly his presence as a leader. After the game he talked about bouncing back after the loss to Atlanta on Saturday and how it left a bad taste in their mouths. That is exactly the mentality this team must have going forward starting with Iguodala.
- Samuel Dalembert seems to be peaking at the perfect time. He started the game 6-for-6 from the field and finished with 20 points and 13 boards. There is no doubt in my mind that if he continues to play this way, the Sixers will win their first round playoff series regardless of who they play. But again, that is a rather big if.
- The best aspect of the night was the fact that Philly never trailed in this game. To me that says they played a complete game without letdowns for long stretches. I attribute much of that to their improved team defense and great ball movement. 28 assists on 37 field goals - you can’t ask for much better team basketball than that.
- I am curious what team attempts and completes the most alley-oops. I gotta imagine the Sixers are right at the top.
By the way - What do you guys think of Alvin Williams on Sixers Post-Game Live? Is it me or is he one of the most boring analysts you have ever heard?

good luck to your sixers man.. my nets are out of the race and i’ll probably wait next season again..
and about the alley-oops, new orleans is the league leader in alley-oops made.. chris paul to tyson chandler is pretty much normal for them.. i think they made almost 200 of them the entire season.. pretty impressive huh..
Fouledout glad you made it over to the new spot. Your NJ Nets have a solid young point guard to build around now so you just need to get rid of overrated (in my opinion) Richard Jefferson and the cancerous on again, off again Vince Carter and you’re back in business. Vince Carter must piss you off right? He played well and hard towards the end of the year, but not ALL year.
Regarding the alley-oops this conversation gave me a good idea to start posting a “Random Sixers Stat” on the blog going forward as part of my ongoing effort to expand my 76er coverage. What do you think?
well yeah.. he stepped up his game after kidd left.. but i like RJ.. the nets can keep jefferson but they MUST get rid of carter in any way possible. yeah you’re right about devin harris. he’s a pretty solid player and there’s time for development. plus josh boone’s production has increased since he saw extended minutes in the court. i hope he can take it next season.
well, the random sixer stat sounds interesting. i’m sure it would fun to read about different statistics other than the usual points, rebounds, assists, etc.
