The most interesting parts of spring training are usually checking out how the new additions to the roster look in red, and also getting a look at the young prospects who you probably won’t see on TV during the season. We know that Roy Halladay made a serious first impression, but right now it’s young Domonic Brown that is stealing the show.
Brown has no shot of making the Major League roster this year – but his early performance in spring training is certainly getting people excited for when he might.
With Shane Victorino out, Brown has found himself getting a lot of AB’s with the regular line-up, and so far, he’s been the best offensive player in camp.
In 5 games (3 starts), he’s 8 for 14 (.571 BA) with 5 RBI, 2 BB (.625 OBP) and only 2 strikeouts. For good measure, he’s been showing off his arm in outfield as well (rated as his best tool by BA) with three outfield assists already.
Just a small sample, sure, but it’s a great start to what is a very important year for Brown. If he dominates AA and maybe even AAA – it’s going to be tough to keep him out of the line-up in 2011.

Last night I was looking for an article with quotes about Brown to use in this post – there wasn’t one – but there is one this morning, here…
I can’t wait for this kid to shine. I really had my concerns about getting rid of Taylor and I still do, especially if we lose Werth, but Brown just seems like all the makings of another home grown stud. Great Stuff Pete! I am done talking Eagles for a while. They better be rebuilding that is all i will say.
One thing for sure, this is taking Brown’s confidence north. Can anyone recall a player that was ticketed for the minors said to have a bright future that forced his team to take him north because of an outstanding spring? I’m not suggesting that occurs here, I just can’t think of a player it happened with even though I assume it has.
Kendrick solid again today: 3 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB
against most of the Yankees regulars (no Jeter/A-Rod)
Pete,
Great to hear about young players getting their shot in the spring. I hope he can make it to the big leagues pretty quick. Sounds like he could be a real special player, I’ll keep an eye on him.
Brown is STILL turning heads with another great day in Clearwater.
3-3, 2 HRs (1 off Verlander), 3 RBI, a bases-loaded infield single, and a walk.
He’s piling up the nicknames too. Werth has called him “The Future” and now Howard is calling him the “The Total Package”.
