The Eagles held their post-draft mini-camp this weekend. I wasn’t going to post about it, but there are a couple of interesting developments I thought people might want to talk about.
- In my opinion, the biggest and best news of the weekend was that Shawn Andrews is in “phenomenal” shape, in a good state of mind, and is moving from right guard to right tackle. Andrews absence last year played a big role in our regular season struggles. Both he and Andy Reid think he can be a better tackle than guard, and that is saying something considering many thought Andrews was the best guard in football in 2007. If both he and Peters play to their potential, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better set of tackles in the league.
- Jim Johnson pretty much said that Quintin Demps, not Sean Jones, is the favorite to replace Brian Dawkins at free safety. Many, including me, have killed Demps for his play in the NFC Championship game, but I’ll certainly give him another chance, and it’s nice to have a solid back-up. He did say that he learned his lesson from the late hit on Warner, that it was a cheap shot out of frustration
- Speaking of Johnson, he’s lost a lot weight from his ongoing cancer battle and was riding around camp on a motorized cart. It’s good to see him there, but I really hope he’s not over-exerting himself. Obviously, we wish him the best.
- Trent Cole is happy with his contract, despite what Sheldon Brown said. Brown said that he will “play hard and be a pro” even if he doesn’t get a new contract. I am far more confident that he will than I was with Lito last season.
- Cornelious Ingram (seen above talking to Reid) was said to have “outstanding” hands and looks like a beast. Reid was impressed.
- Watched Ray Didinger on CSN last night. He’s one of the few sports voices in Philly whose opinion I value. He said he wasn’t sure moving Andrews to tackle was a great idea because he was so good at guard. He also said that he was very, very impressed with Jeremy Maclin, particularly his quickness and speed. Maclin will need to learn a lot, but he said he has the willingness and desire to do so and is a great kid. Also said LeSean McCoy was very impressive and had hands you would expect from a WR.

Sounds like some of the younger vets (like Trent Cole) had a word with Sheldon Brown and basically told him to STFU and play.
Pete, the more I here about Ingram, the more I like. Any idea how they approach the center position, is it Jackson!s to lose? Is McGlynn or Cole a possibility there?

McGlynn is the primary backup for Herremans at LG. He has been playing with the 1st team in Herremans’ absence. There is a rumor circulating on the Eagles MB that Herremans got hurt in a non-football related activity this offseason, who knows if this is true or not. Gotta believe that McGlynn, Cole, and MJG can step in an start, and I think Cole was originally a center coming out of college so I could see him pushing Jamaal Jackson, the guy most succeptible on that O-Line.
