Eagles Rumors: Monday Evening Edition

I’m going to try to keep a running tally of all the Eagles’ rumors during the week here. It’s going to be difficult given how crazy it will be, and that I actually have a job, but I’ll do my best.

I’m not going to write a new post for each rumor. So keep coming to this post for the most recent news. I will also try to keep my depth chart updated as we move along…

The first rumor to report is a big one…

Monday

11:08pm: Next up, Temple S Timothy Saunders, giving us the entire Temple safety core, for better or worse.

10:46pm: A couple more RFA’s. DT Cedric Thornton from Southern Arkansas, who many saw as one of the best RFAs and WR Terrance Turner from Indiana.

10:14pm: We have our FIRST signing. They allowed teams to start negotiating with rookies tonight and the Eagles Graig Cooper, a RB from Miami who went un-drafted because of a knee injury.

2:29pm: The folks over at Grantland call Ray Edwards the most overrated player on the market. Playing with Jared Allen and the Williams boys has let him flourish.

2:27pm: The most pointless lockout in the history of sports is now over. Glad the owners can finally add those extra decks to their yachts. The fun starts tomorrow. Look for Kolb to be traded immediately, though some are saying don’t rule out the Seahawks just yet.

12:03pm: Looking more and more like moves aren’t going to start happening until tomorrow. But I’m sure the rumors will start popping up once they lockout is officially lifted.

11:32am: Not a trade rumor, but Jeff McLane reporting that the Eagles will open up camp on Wednesday.

10:55am: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that the Falcons aren’t players for DE Ray Edwards, and that the Eagles are the likely landing spot. This would make sense, with DE being the biggest hole in our line-up, assuming we get DRC in the Kevin Kolb deal.

  1. Adam B. says:

I really don’t want just DRC for Kolb straight up. I’d have to get DRC and a second/third round conditional pick along with Kolb (much like the McNabb trade) in order to get that done.

    • Pete says:

Yeah – I would hope we get a 2nd rounder along with DRC considering just HOW BAD the Cardinals need Kolb

    • Ryan says:

Agree.  I would try to play Seattle and Arizona against each other for Kolb.  I would rather have a 1st and 3rd from Seattle (and sign a free agent corner) than DRC and a 2nd or 3rd from Arizona.  Although predicting records in the NFL is pretty futile, I don’t think either team is going to be particularly good this year since both teams figure to have new quarterbacks without an entire offseason to acclimate to their new team so the draft picks should be pretty valuable.

  2. JWIL says:

You know, at first hearing I was excited about the prospect of Ray Edwards, but then I too wondered whether his success was due to his surrounding pieces. I can’t say that I have really watched him play much at all, but I do fear that perhaps he will just be another DE flop for the Birds. Anyone have any insight?

    • Pete says:

I don’t really like any of the DE options personally.

Everyone is hyping up Jason Babin b/c Washburn was his coach last year and he was great. But he’s 31 and failed here once before.

Too bad Brandon Graham isn’t healthy…

      • JWIL says:

Yeah I agree. Babin has been in the league for some time now and really only flourished last year. The question becomes, was last year a fluke or the beginning of a new trend. I think more of a fluke than anything.

  3. Adam B. says:

That Brandon Graham pick looks awful now. Could’ve had Earl Thomas and got high upside/athletic DE’s in the later rounds.

  4. Chuck says:

Cannot wait for this free agency to start… never been more pumped for the Eagles to make moves.
Heres what I expect that Eagles to do….

    - Trade Kolb to the Cardinals for DRC and a third round pick
    - Sign Ray Ewards from Minessota
    - Sign Reggie Bush
    - Sign Plexico Burress
    - Resign Mikell
    - Have Khafka be the backup QB
    -  Sign Mark Herzlich from BC

Heres what I would do if I was in charge

    - Trade Kolb to the Seahawks for a 1st and 3rd round pick for a couple of reasons. First of DRC is overhyped and overrated. Him and Asante in the same backfield would be a nightmare… talk about all flash and no substance. Secondly Ive been annoyed how Kolbs been talking likes hes a Cardinal for the past 2 months and been working out with Larry F…. we don’t owe him anything.

    - Sign Asoghuma- hes the surest defensive back there is and would instantly take our team up another level. No reason to take a chance on a 30 yr old defensive back considerng the fact were trying to win it all this year.

    - Forget Reggie Bush, sign Noel Devine out of West Virginia for cheaper… hes smaller then Bush but comes without the extra baggage and is quicker.

    - Sign Ike Taylor to either replace Mikell or to start ahead of Jarret and Allen. He has been so consistent for the Steelers over the past 5 years. We need a secondary that we can rely on and has absouletly no queston marks.

    - Sign my man Vince Young to be the backup QB. His numbers have always been ugly but look at his winning percentage over the years.. you really cant argue it. Reid is the pefect coach for him.

  5. Pat says:

You can’t get on the Birds about the Graham pick just yet.  He’s hurt but looked like a young Trent Cole in limited use last year. And while I was hoping for Earl Thomas at the time, Nate Allen looked like a real good player last year. Safety is a tough position to jump into in our defense and he looked good. Let’s let them get back to full strength before we declare them busts.

  6. GHETTO says:

Being a Cards fan for a long time . You should be happy with just DRC . DRC was a pro bowl player 2 years ago . What has Kolb done ? I hate the deal . A unproven QB . I would much rather take Orton for a 2nd round pick then to make Eagles list of demands . By the way . who won the NFC championship game in 2009 :)
