Eagles Rumors: Tuesday “Craziness” Edition

I’m going to try to keep a running tally of all the Eagles’ rumors during the week here. It’s going to be difficult given how crazy it will be, and that I actually have a job, but I’ll do my best.

I’m not going to write a new post for each rumor. So keep coming to this post for the most recent news. I will also try to keep my depth chart updated as we move along…

Tuesday

11:21pm: Couple final rumors for the evening…

  • The biggest thing is that it is being reported that the Eagles are trying to get DRC and a 1st rounder from the Cards for Kolb, while they are offering DRC and a 2nd. If DRC and a 2nd is being offered, the Birds are flat out wasting time not accepting it. Get the deal done and get working on your other business.
  • Looks like McNabb is headed to the Vikings. Good fit for him. Hope he does well. Interested to see if he has anything left.
  • Ike Taylor off the board, stays with the Steelers. Not sure what the Eagles will do with their money if they don’t sign Nmandi.
  • The Cowboys dropped all those players mainly so they could re-sign Doug Free. But the Bucs are giving them a run for their money. Root hard for Tampa to land him.

9:48pm: Back from Softball… only news to report has been reported in the comments below. RB Noel Devine signs as rookie FA. A good get. Elite athlete. Might help in the return game.

5:44pm: DE Charles Johnson re-signs with the Panthers.

4:48pm: Jonathan Tamari reports that the Eagles will not re-sign ANY of their free agents. Only real surprises are Stewart Bradley, Jerome Harrison and Sav Rocca. I guess the UF punter will be our new punter. Also gone: Max Jean-Giles, Nick Cole, Dimitri Patterson and Quintin Mikell.

4:09pm: Adam Caplan of Fox Sports saying the Eagles will NOT be in on Ray Edwards. Good news, IMO. A good player who will probably be overpaid.

4:05pm: A Seattle reporter is saying the Seahawks have acquired a QB… it’s not Kevin Kolb. Perhaps this will speed up the Kolb to Arizona deal if SEA is no longer a player.

2:20pm: Notable NFC East cuts: Marion Barber, Roy Williams and Leonard Davis (DAL), Shaun O’Hara (NYG)

1:33pm: How has there been no rumors about a specific player signing with a specific team yet?

12:53pm: Paul Domowich says a Kolb trade announcement will not come today. No rush or anything…

12:48pm: So I guess all that talk of a Kevin Kolb to Arizona trade essentially being a done deal was uhhh… wrong.

12:36pm: LB Nick Barnett, released by the Packers, says the Eagles are one of the teams he would like to play for.

11:46am: Vick implies there is a chance Desean will hold out. I’m not going to get into that further here. Will stick to trades and signings for the most part.

11:34am: Albert Breer of NFL Network says that the “phone is ringing off the hook” for Kevin Kolb and the Eagles are going to be patient and get the best deal.

11:28am: Chris Mortensen thinks the biggest $$ offer to Asomugha will likely come from Houston. Would be a huge move for them.

11:06am: Schefter now saying that we SHOULDN’T expect a Kolb trade within the hour.

10:44am: Another rookie FA, LB Brandon Peguese from Hampton

10:41am: AZ sportswriter says he suspects Kolb trade within the hour.

10:37am: Other undrafted DA signings announced: TE Martell Webb (Michigan), WR Perry Baker (Fairmont St.), WR DeAndre Brown (Southern Miss), P Chas Henry (Florida), QB Jerrod Johnson (Tex AM). Herzlich signs with the Giants. The three the Eagles signed yesterday were all the in ESPN top-40 available. None of today’s were.

10:04am: Why haven’t we signed everyone yet??? It’s been four minutes!

9:49pm: My bold prediction: We make an aggressive run at DE Charles Johnson from the Panthers. He is #4 on PFT’s top-80 FAs.

9:47pm: 13 minutes to chaos… though the lack of news we’ve gotten so far makes me wonder if it really will be chaos.

8:42am: Here is everything we woke up to this morning, it’s not much…

  • Chris Mortensen said the Eagles “did a lot of work” on Vince Young, and might be interested in him as a back-up.
  • We are in the mix for BC linebacker and local product LB Mark Herzlich. I was hoping the Eagles would draft him late, so obviously would be happy to pick him up now.
  • Kolb is still expected to go to Arizona, and that should happen today.
  • 10am is when the flood gates open, I’ll try to keep up with everything as best I can.

Monday

11:08pm: Next up, Temple S Timothy Saunders, giving us the entire Temple safety core, for better or worse.

10:46pm: A couple more rookie FA’s. DT Cedric Thornton from Southern Arkansas, who many saw as one of the best RFAs and WR Terrance Turner from Indiana.

10:14pm: We have our FIRST signing. They allowed teams to start negotiating with rookies tonight and the Eagles nab Graig Cooper, a RB from Miami who went un-drafted because of a knee injury.

2:29pm: The folks over at Grantland call Ray Edwards the most overrated player on the market. Playing with Jared Allen and the Williams boys has let him flourish.

2:27pm: The most pointless lockout in the history of sports is now over. Glad the owners can finally add those extra decks to their yachts. The fun starts tomorrow. Look for Kolb to be traded immediately, though some are saying don’t rule out the Seahawks just yet.

12:03pm: Looking more and more like moves aren’t going to start happening until tomorrow. But I’m sure the rumors will start popping up once they lockout is officially lifted.

11:32am: Not a trade rumor, but Jeff McLane reporting that the Eagles will open up camp on Wednesday.

10:55am: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that the Falcons aren’t players for DE Ray Edwards, and that the Eagles are the likely landing spot. This would make sense, with DE being the biggest hole in our line-up, assuming we get DRC in the Kevin Kolb deal.

  1. JWIL says:

Would be great to see the Birds make a run at Johnson. I feel like he is a better option than Ray Edwards.

  2. Marc says:

    Herzlich signs with NY Giants

  3. jurnee16 says:

I could not write a whole scouting report on a punter, but I can say with 100% certainty that Chas Henry will not disappoint.

  4. Ryan says:

I fully expect the Eagles to announce the Kolb trade or a big FA signing and then a few hours later, the Phillies announce a big trade or vice versa.  Doesn’t it seem like they are always trying to one-up each other?

  5. Adam B. says:

    yawn

    • Pete says:

      Tell me about it.

I guess teams really had to do a lot of housekeeping type work today. Get the trains running again and just see what the market for things is going to be.

  6. JWIL says:

Hopefully Caplan is right, the more I think about it, the more I want less and less of Ray Edwards. Maybe this means they are after Charles Johnson?
What a boring day. I kept reloading web pages and going all over the place to get scoops, and there just was nothing going on. We can only hope tomorrow is more exciting.

  7. Stu says:

    Big fan of Chas Henry

  8. Stu says:

They also signed Derrell Johnson-Koulionous, very productive WR from Iowa who had some drug issues at the end of the season plummeting his draft stock.

Could be the next Jason Avant.

  9. Stu says:

Q Mikell signs with the Rams, 4-year deal

  10. Adam B. says:

T-Jax AND Leinart to Seattle. Count them out for Kevin Kolb. Might as well count out DRC for KK straight up now too.

  11. Adam B. says:

Should have taken the deal Andy!!! wtf

  12. Adam B. says:

Eagles sign Noel Devine. Like him a lot. Seriously winning at UDFA

  13. Chuck says:

    Noel Devine baby!!!

  14. jurnee16 says:

Eagles need to pull the trigger on DRC and a 2 for Kolb before the Cards just go for Orton…at the very least make it a conditional pick…DRC and a 1 is a steep price for someone as unproven as Kolb…I am afraid the Eagles might be pricing themselves out of this one….

    • Stu says:

Keep in mind that QBs get hurt, sometimes in preseason that could derail an entire season…could be a secondary market if they want to play roulette with keeping him.
