OK – so yesterday was a huge bust. What everyone thought would be an NHL-style free-for-all turned into pretty much everyone trying to get their footing and figure out what’s going on.
Hopefully today will bring more excitement, and give us an idea of what the Eagles “grand plan” is, cause right now, our defense looks pretty darn horrible.
Wednesday
10:22pm: Very interesting update from Adam Caplan, who says this: “Just reported on 97.5 the fanatic that teams have sought permission from the Eagles to talk with Kolb’s people. Yes…..I said teams. That is all. Carry on.”
4:48pm: Looks like 8 of 11 draft picks have signed. Only that haven’t are Watkins and 2 of the 7th rounders (Lloyd, Havili)
3:57pm: A new name to report! Adam Caplan says the Eagles and Lions both have interest in LB Stephon Tulloch. Pro Football Talk has him rated as the 29th best FA out there (4th best LB) and says he “can do a lot of things as a starting linebacker.”
3:25pm: Looks like Dion Lewis is signed. Also, someone on Twitter whose legitimacy I can’t vouch for says that Vince Young is close to signing with Eagles. I’m not sure Young has even been released yet… Either way, I’d be fine with him as a back-up option.
2:41pm: Jeff McLane says Danny Watkins deal could get done by tomorrow’s practice.
2:07pm: Adam Shefter says the Kolb deal “will happen” this week. The return will be DRC and a pick. So just a matter of time. I’d put this one to rest, he’s pretty reliable.
2:02pm: Adam Caplan says the Eagles are the frontrunners for Babin.
1:57pm: Apparently there is a large market for Babin. The Falcons want him after missing on Charles Johnson, and about 5 other teams too.
12:53pm: So… if you go to the Eagles website… you can buy a Rodgers-Cromartie jersey… it’s in the drop-down menu. I would imagine a deal is getting done soon?
12:44pm: DE Jason Babin said we are one of 3 teams he is talking to. Would be fine with him at a smaller deal, but don’t think that is what he’s looking for.
12:01pm: Yawn. Clark Judge of CBS saying that the Eagles and Cardinals are still talking. Basic deal is DRC and 2nd rounder. But he doesn’t know if the hold up is that the Cards want to pay less or the Eagles want to get more.
9:55am: The Titans are off the board as a darkhorse Kolb suitor, as they sign Hasselbeck.
Tuesday
11:21pm: Couple final rumors for the evening…
- The biggest thing is that it is being reported that the Eagles are trying to get DRC and a 1st rounder from the Cards for Kolb, while they are offering DRC and a 2nd. If DRC and a 2nd is being offered, the Birds are flat out wasting time not accepting it. Get the deal done and get working on your other business.
- Looks like McNabb is headed to the Vikings. Good fit for him. Hope he does well. Interested to see if he has anything left.
- Ike Taylor off the board, stays with the Steelers. Not sure what the Eagles will do with their money if they don’t sign Nmandi.
- The Cowboys dropped all those players mainly so they could re-sign Doug Free. But the Bucs are giving them a run for their money. Root hard for Tampa to land him.
9:48pm: Back from Softball… only news to report has been reported in the comments below. RB Noel Devine signs as rookie FA. A good get. Elite athlete. Might help in the return game.
5:44pm: DE Charles Johnson re-signs with the Panthers.
4:48pm: Jonathan Tamari reports that the Eagles will not re-sign ANY of their free agents. Only real surprises are Stewart Bradley, Jerome Harrison and Sav Rocca. I guess the UF punter will be our new punter. Also gone: Max Jean-Giles, Nick Cole, Dimitri Patterson and Quintin Mikell.
4:09pm: Adam Caplan of Fox Sports saying the Eagles will NOT be in on Ray Edwards. Good news, IMO. A good player who will probably be overpaid.
4:05pm: A Seattle reporter is saying the Seahawks have acquired a QB… it’s not Kevin Kolb. Perhaps this will speed up the Kolb to Arizona deal if SEA is no longer a player.
2:20pm: Notable NFC East cuts: Marion Barber, Roy Williams and Leonard Davis (DAL), Shaun O’Hara (NYG)
1:33pm: How has there been no rumors about a specific player signing with a specific team yet?
12:53pm: Paul Domowich says a Kolb trade announcement will not come today. No rush or anything…
12:48pm: So I guess all that talk of a Kevin Kolb to Arizona trade essentially being a done deal was uhhh… wrong.
12:36pm: LB Nick Barnett, released by the Packers, says the Eagles are one of the teams he would like to play for.
11:46am: Vick implies there is a chance Desean will hold out. I’m not going to get into that further here. Will stick to trades and signings for the most part.
11:34am: Albert Breer of NFL Network says that the “phone is ringing off the hook” for Kevin Kolb and the Eagles are going to be patient and get the best deal.
11:28am: Chris Mortensen thinks the biggest $$ offer to Asomugha will likely come from Houston. Would be a huge move for them.
11:06am: Schefter now saying that we SHOULDN’T expect a Kolb trade within the hour.
10:44am: Another rookie FA, LB Brandon Peguese from Hampton
10:41am: AZ sportswriter says he suspects Kolb trade within the hour.
10:37am: Other undrafted DA signings announced: TE Martell Webb (Michigan), WR Perry Baker (Fairmont St.), WR DeAndre Brown (Southern Miss), P Chas Henry (Florida), QB Jerrod Johnson (Tex AM). Herzlich signs with the Giants. The three the Eagles signed yesterday were all the in ESPN top-40 available. None of today’s were.
10:04am: Why haven’t we signed everyone yet??? It’s been four minutes!
9:49pm: My bold prediction: We make an aggressive run at DE Charles Johnson from the Panthers. He is #4 on PFT’s top-80 FAs.
9:47pm: 13 minutes to chaos… though the lack of news we’ve gotten so far makes me wonder if it really will be chaos.
8:42am: Here is everything we woke up to this morning, it’s not much…
- Chris Mortensen said the Eagles “did a lot of work” on Vince Young, and might be interested in him as a back-up.
- We are in the mix for BC linebacker and local product LB Mark Herzlich. I was hoping the Eagles would draft him late, so obviously would be happy to pick him up now.
- Kolb is still expected to go to Arizona, and that should happen today.
- 10am is when the flood gates open, I’ll try to keep up with everything as best I can.
Monday
11:08pm: Next up, Temple S Timothy Saunders, giving us the entire Temple safety core, for better or worse.
10:46pm: A couple more rookie FA’s. DT Cedric Thornton from Southern Arkansas, who many saw as one of the best RFAs and WR Terrance Turner from Indiana.
10:14pm: We have our FIRST signing. They allowed teams to start negotiating with rookies tonight and the Eagles nab Graig Cooper, a RB from Miami who went un-drafted because of a knee injury.
2:29pm: The folks over at Grantland call Ray Edwards the most overrated player on the market. Playing with Jared Allen and the Williams boys has let him flourish.
2:27pm: The most pointless lockout in the history of sports is now over. Glad the owners can finally add those extra decks to their yachts. The fun starts tomorrow. Look for Kolb to be traded immediately, though some are saying don’t rule out the Seahawks just yet.
12:03pm: Looking more and more like moves aren’t going to start happening until tomorrow. But I’m sure the rumors will start popping up once they lockout is officially lifted.
11:32am: Not a trade rumor, but Jeff McLane reporting that the Eagles will open up camp on Wednesday.
10:55am: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that the Falcons aren’t players for DE Ray Edwards, and that the Eagles are the likely landing spot. This would make sense, with DE being the biggest hole in our line-up, assuming we get DRC in the Kevin Kolb deal.

Seriously just need to take the deal Andy… it pisses me off that he does this ALL THE TIME
Pete….. this is so painful – I thought the Eagles were going to be making “big moves.” DId they count signing ten million UDFA as making big moves?
Still early. Looks like Kolb could get done soon and then we will get moving.
yea… apparently Orton is pretty much set with the Dolphins… and they’re selling DRC jerseys on the Ealges website now?? Hilarious.
Also heard that Desean is pretty much a guarantee to hold out. What an asshole Rosenhaus is… they’ve literally had 36 hours to negotiate since he was able to receive a more than 30% raise and the Eagles are trying to improve their team through free agency. What a selfish dick move on behalf of Jackson and Rosenhaus…
People should wait until he ACTUALLY holds out to freak out. Doesn’t have to show up until tomorrow.
It would just be so unwarranted and reckless on his part to hold out when they’ve literally JUST been able to start renegotiating his contract
Is there even a relative possibility that Ray Edwards comes to Philly? Or is that completely out the window
Now they removed the jersey? Crazy
Multiple sources tell Philly Sports Daily that DeSean Jackson will not report to Eagles training camp on Wednesday, and is unlikely to be there Thursday as well.
dumb power play move. Eagles haven’t even had the chance to negotiate with him yet. Rosenhaus is a huge d-bag. I’m not pleased with Jackson, but players don’t think for themselves in these situations. Hopefully it’s only a day or two and he makes his point (he IS grossly underpaid, let’s not forget that) and gets into camp.
But he isn’t nearly consistent enough to command the ridiculous contract that Rosenhaus is going to demand. I have a bad feeling about this one…
He’s not top 5… Santonio drove up the price
I’ve read the VY rumors all over the place as well… I think AR might be getting greedy but then again VY and Vick could run similar style offenses
Another bust of a day. Hopefully the Kolb gets done asap
Jim Trotter says it is DRC & a 2nd rounder coming back, Kolb gets $30mil guaranteed
So what took so long? Was Reid really trying to squeeze a first rounder out? Or thinking a first and second round pick swap?
Adam Caplan just made an interesting tweet. “Just reported on 97.5 the fanatic that TEAMS have sought permission from the Eagles to talk with Kolb’s people.” Then followed that by saying, “Yes … I said teamS. That is all. Carry on.”
What is going onnnnnnnnnn
Haynesworth to the Pats for a 5th round pick according to ESPN. I would have done that deal. With Washburn here, I think Haynesworth would have been a good contributor. Maybe the Redskins didn’t want to ship him in the NFC East.
Or maybe they are sour on giving up a second round pick last year and getting a sixth this year for McNabb haha…
I read that they were either going to trade him or keep him because they didn’t want him going to the Eagles if they released him.
