Are you happy or excited about the choice?
I wish I could venture a stronger opinion on the decision but I have never heard Pinckney call a game on any level. The only experience I have with him is some post game analysis on the radio after Nova games. I didn’t get a chance to see him on Sixers Postgame Live during his stint.
I will say I am glad to have an ex-local player (Nova) who also has some good NBA experience. Hopefully rather than spitting gobs of cliches and dry, overly enthusiastic Salmi-isms he will actually be a thoughtful analyst who marries his critique of the game with relevant stories from his past experience.
So what’s your take?
Just a update for the basketball junkies out there. We will be starting our 30 team NBA season preview this week. Look for it.

Thank the basketball gods for bringing us out of the darkness of Bob Salmi’s overly-biased, unimaginative analysis. Zoom and Pickney should be good together, I caught his introduction on DNL last night and he seems great.
Now if only, someone(thing) could deliver us from Dalembert’s contract.
I saw Pinckney on DNL also. I’m not a Nova fan, but Pinckney came off very well in the interview. He seemed to be intelligent, insightful and he told some entertaining stories about sitting next to Rollie Massimino and Pat Riley during last year’s Nova Final Four game, playing on the Celtics in the twilight of the Bird, Parrish, McHale days (and Larry Bird’s excessive trash talking), playing on a pitiful ’95 Sixers team that won 18 games (he noted that he was a mid-season acquisition). Obviously, we need to see how Ed is during game action before we judge, but I have a feeling that he will be a good addition.
I’m also glad Bob Salmi is gone…
Finally a cure for Salmi-nella
Nice pun, Garvey!
Don’t mean to be downcast, but by December we may be lookin’ for a cure for Pink Knee. Have seen and heard him interviewed often. Seldom have I been transfixed.
From here, chief attribute: get-along bud with longtime organizational suck up Zumoff (the “Wheels” of Wachovia); they don’t call him EZ for nuttin’. Top flight college player though! Played his heart out on the Main Line.
Meh seems about right. Interested to see how he does (if I can get CSN this year), but was hoping for Mad Dog (Carter) who would bring both entertainlue and the insight of a coach.
Don’t go too hard on Salmi. He’s at his best as a postgame analyst. I really wanted someone like Doug Collins. But anyway, let’s all welcome Ed Pickney and wish him the best of luck!
At least Salmi is gone. That alone is good news.
I wanted Bill Raftery
I’ve heard him a few times doing the Heat games. He’s pretty good, he has a nice voice, and knows the game. He plays it pretty straight, not much humor, no controversy, however, he gives good basketball analysis, and you can learn something from him. He’ll be an improvement over Bob, that’s for sure.
I wasn’t a big Bob Salmi fan, it just seemed to me that on every close call, he’d come down on the opponent’s side. If you’re a Sixers’ fan, that gets old quick. Fortunately, I didn’t have to listen to him too often. I get our games through the NBA League Pass, and thanks to the feud, (Comcast/Direct- TV), I don’t too many Sixers’ feed.
In closing, just let me say that my personal choice for the job was Freddie “Mad Dog” Carter, he was very good on NBA-TV, and has strong Sixer’s ties, but Ed Pinkney is a solid choice, and a definite upgrade.
