Green Peppers?

When ESPN or the Daily News steals that headline, remember you read it here first…

As brought to our attention by reader tk76, the blog Don’t Boo the Birds is reporting that Julius Peppers is interested in playing for the Eagles, and the Eagles may have the interest and the cap room to sign him.

He doesn’t reveal his source, but frankly, I’m running with it. Peppers was the player I targeted in my Eagles off-season blueprint, and despite some reports that he wanted to play in a 3-4 defense, this may not be the case.

Peppers is exactly the type of elite player our defense needs. We are chock full of above average talent, but lack that Ed Reed or Shawn Merriman type force. Peppers could be that player for us, and I would be thrilled to land him. The Eagles need to make a splash this offseason. Peppers would be like D.J. Fluker jumping off the high dive.

Don’t be getting my hopes up for nothing man.  I’ve heard awesome rumors every off season.

Peppers would be everything Javon Kearse was supposed to be when the Birds picked him up, probably even more.  Good get if they can pull it off.

I’m in NC. I’ve watched him drop back in zone blitz coverage. He’s quick, fast, and smart. In the Arizona game, he would have dropped off into short zone coverage (green dog), taking away Warner’s short, check-off passes from the blitzing side. He can cover a receiver all the way across the field. He can catch a qb and bring him down. He can catch an RB trying the outside. Plus, the other team will need two blockers in case he rushes. Plus, his signing weakens an NFC rival. He will make everyone on the Defense better. We are super-bound w/him.

Dr. Matt-

thanks for the comment.
the only knock on Peppers I’ve heard is his drive, based on his 2007 performance, I guess.
any opinions on that?
