@ jordan-

Just because the Lakers are saddled with odom's horrible contract, that means we have to accept Iguodala's....??? (if you are of the opinion that his contract his bad). You know how bad the lakers want odon money's off their books. Odom's contract is a contract the Lakers can live with because the Lakers have Kobe Bryant. A bit of a different situation than the Sixers are in.

@pete-

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT complaining

This is an approx. $15MM mistake on the part of the Sixers, by not signing Iguodala before Deng/Okafor got their deals.

This deal, though not confirmed yet, is close to $15MM off what Iguodala's market value during the regular season and before he displayed his glaring half-court deficiencies in the playoffs against Detroit.

Knowing that you (the Sixers) are not going to allow him to go the unrestricted market in 2009--that was clear--and knowing what the inflated market for restricted players during this offseason was going to be due to lack of strong unrestricteds, by not giving Iguodala a contract in that $63-65MM earlier last year, it costs them approx. $15MM over the course of those 6 season that have been reported.

Now, I think there is no question that although Iguodala has continued to develop/improve, his scoring numbers are likely to trend DOWN in the upcoming season with the inclusion of Brand. To what extent, I don't know, but I think that is natural regression with now Brand in the pivot.

In the end, Iguodala is critical to how this team was built, how it plays, and how they are going to continue to win--defending, getting up and down the floor, but $80MM to a No. 2 option, with his garling half-court deficiencies is a bit disheartening. I would have liked to have seen him sign to closer to that $60-65MM. That was possible.

Where does ESPN actually get this info all the time? Its always hard to to know how truthful the info is. If it is true I do not think its a bad price to pay a guy that is young, exciting and puts fans in the seats. Its always a risk with these players, 6 years down the line we could be saying "Wow we are only paying him 13 mil" or "s**t, that was a bad move". Either way, I hope hes locked up soon so we can move on.

[...] One of our readers, Rob tipped us all off that the deal was not official according to Stefanksi during the Phillies-Dodgers game. Then a couple Philly Beat writers followed up on that and made contact with Sixers GM Ed Stefanski to confirm ESPN’s report that Andre Iguodala agreed to terms of a deal worth $80M over six years. The 76ers wouldn’t confirm an ESPN.com report yesterday claiming the team and Andre Iguodala have come to terms on a six-year, $80 million contract. [...]

Hmm, very interesting developments. Would Stefanski refute the rumors of an Iguodala deal if they were accurate? If so why?

Was this a leak coming from Iguodala's camp?

suede, Your last sentence is probably right on. Otherwise, reported number (or anything close) wouldn't be tabled by Stefanski - or would it, in a realm driven by commerce and perception's importance?
One thing for certain: For the first time, Cheeks has sufficient pieces from which to mold a winner.

Big Ed says no deal. 80 mil is too much for a #2 guy who with the addition of Brand and moving to a new position is not likely to avg. 20+ for the duration of the contract. However, if the deal is 80 mil it will probably be laced with incentives, i.e. scoring avg., all-star appearances, etc.
Let's look at The Wizards, Agent 0 and Jamison will be trenched in mediocrity for years to come after coughing up all that money. And Miller in his own words is a West Coast guy and thus will probably head west next year.
They should probably think about starting Miller, Lou, Iggy, Brand and Sammy. Give Thad another year, and get more off the bench with the loss of Smith for the season.

As Blski stated, chemistry is important and we only added 1 major piece to last years core [Brand] so hoipefully we can hit the ground running. Jumpin, hopefully he does enough of the little things and gets comfortable in his role as the 3rd or 2nd banana. If this prohibits us from signing A.Miller I will be very surprised. He is too much of what E.S. has been talking about; [good person, good player].
