I’m going to start posting on any big recruiting news for the Wildcats, and Jay Wright helped me out by landing Jayvaughn Pinkston, a highly ranked 2010 PF from Brooklyn, NY.
This is a significant signing for many reasons.
First, it is the 3rd highly ranked big man Jay has landed in the last 2 years (Yarou and Marcus Kennedy) showing that Nova might not just be a guard school after all. You have to wonder if the tremendous job he did developing Dante Cunningham has anything to do with the sudden success.
Second, this kid gives Nova something they don’t really have right now: A mean, brusing DeJuan Blair-type power forward. Pinkston is only 6’6”, but he is 235 pounds and from Brooklyn. He seems to be a perfect fit for a tough, gritty Jay Wright squad. However, aside from providing girth inside, he is also apparently a very talented perimeter player. It will be interesting to see what Wright does with him.
To see where new recruits rate compared to what we’ve been bringing in, I will update this chart every time Nova lands a new kid…
As I mentioned in this post, there are only a handful of teams that can match that collection of talent. And, their 2010 class might not be done, as they are very much in the picture for PG Cory Joseph, who might just top this list if he signs. Viva Jay Wright!
