LA Ball Talk is running a great Top NBA Team Blog contest, and we’ve been nominated as one of the Sixers representatives.
I don’t think you guys need a campaign pitch so instead I will use this opportunity to remind you why you frequent this blog and to ask for suggestions.
This blog is great because we have by far the most active and knowledgeable readers, and I think it’s honest and fair to say the best part of the blog isn’t what Pete and I write rather it is the comment section. Pete and I just try really hard to write stuff that fuels great discussion. Nothing against the other blogs (which I read and like them all), but there is a reason we have multiple posts with over 100 comments and why many of the Deep Sixer regulars have come over and stayed here. And I hope you all will continue to stay here and be even more active even with Philly.com trying to resurrect Deep Sixers via Kate Fagan. (Hope that helped sway the undecideds.)
With that said I’ve been thinking about the upcoming Sixers season and the best way to handle the game-to-game coverage so you guys have a place to talk about it. Games when we don’t live blog or expect to write something until well after the game is over (when we actually are at the game), I am thinking we will put up a prep post before the game starts so people can talk during the game and immediately after. I know at Deep Sixer people would comment on the previous game post until Marc got his new post up after the game. I’d rather avoid that outcome if I can help it. Better to keep everything in one place. We will then just write our game thoughts on that post when we get to it after the game. Thoughts? Suggestions are always welcome.
So whether you are Republican, Democrat, pro Obama or Mccain I think we can all agree voting for the Recliner GM as the top Sixers blog is a safe bet. We won’t let you down. Vote Here Now

Well, I just stepped up and voted for ReclinerGM. Now that I’ve supported you, my back could use a little scratching. You see, there’s this quiet little side project I have going that I think you guys can help me with……
Seriously, both of you do a fantastic job here. I’m sure whatever way you decide to handle the season will be just fine. I’m not going anywhere, so you better expand the size of the comment box.
Bski- Just pull the bottom right corner of the comment box and VOILA!
Voted.
Dannie, I gave up on the game after 1.5 quarters, I really didn’t like what I saw, it feels like the team is still searching for its identity. Something I never thought I’d say: I miss Sammy D, they could’ve really used him tonight for continuity purposes.
They’ve got me really worried about the opener against Toronto now. Some doubts that have creeped in:
Should we have gotten Josh Smith instead?
Should Thad be starting at SF?
Does Mo know how to use Donyell and Kareem?
Are the Cavs better than us?
Some positives: Iguodala looked awesome, so did Speights. It looks like Iggy’s got a better handle now, and the timing on his passes was perfect. I love Speights’ suction cup hands!
About Brand – nothing I saw made me think he’s the answer to us getting past Detroit or Boston this time around.
BUT IT IS PRESEASON, I’m aware…
Dannie…My previous comment was tongue-in-cheek, as many are btw, but thanks. I was mostly poking fun at myself for my periodic (ok, frequent) long posts and my need for a 10,000 word comment box.
Sorry guys had to vote for Depressed Fan.
ZACK- I agree, I didn’t really get the feeling last night that the team was really that much better than the last time I had seen it. It’s only preseason, but i saw some areas for concern, and I too miss Sammy every time he’s not there. I think his value is truly underestimated.
I was at the game last night, it was like a funeral in there, so after 2 beers I decided it was my responsibility to liven it up a bit. So if any of you went and heard the 1 insane man screaming at the Cav’s like it was game 7 of the ECF, that was me. I got a pretty good rise out of the crowd when I told Varejao to cut his hair while shooting a free throw.
Just kidding guys, I tried to vote for Recliner GM more than once but it wouldn’t let me. I would say you guys have the best blog, but I don’t know for sure, I’ve never had to check out the others. You have everything I need right here. GOOD LUCK!
Thanks Ryan. I really really don’t pay much attention to preseason games because I think the line-ups change a lot for evaluation purposes. I actually have a post in the works about the Top 3 things that matter to me in the Sixers preseason. Will work that in between all the Phillies World Series hoopla.
I do agree Sammy is undervalued around here. He is a commodity in this league. An athletic center that rebounds well, blocks shots, can run the floor, catch lobs and finish with dunks not wimpy ass lay-ups. Although sometimes he looks like he forgets his role and tries to go one-on-one for the most part he does his job every game. If he got better defending pick and rolls I would absolutely love him.
Speaking of pick and rolls. Speights has a lot of potential in that area. He moves his feet extremely well and is very agile. He got switch on guards a few times last night and did a pretty good job of getting in a good defensive stance, keeping the guy at arms length to reduce their speed advantage and then getting a long arm up to contest a shot. I am getting excited about this kid. His energy level is very high especially on the offensive boards.
Agreed, I yell at the tv when his magic butter fingers and bad decision making come out, but his positives definitely outway his negatives.
As far as Speights, I think this kid can be a stud. A lot of talent and athletic ability, and last night he was showing some swagger and confidence. I have a feeling by the time J Smith makes it back he’ll be playing behind him.
VOTED.
Are there really other sports blogs?
Voted! Good Luck Yea the team seemed kinda flat last night but it was preseason. I hope they come out at the season opener in the throwback uniforms. That would be good cause I’m sick of our current jersey’s. Iggy jumper did look better, Lou looked real good, Speights is exciting, brand while not shooting well looks athletic and does not seem to show any effects of the injury the team will come togeather, but I have always thought that they were a 45-48 win team. I dont see them cracking 50 wins this year, but I hope I’m wrong.
You guys owe me one beer, I said to LA Ball talk to put you in the poll as in the first version you and another great Sixers site were missing.
I think you are the best Sixers blog and I voted for you, but Depressed fan, Passion & pride, Sixersoul etc are just as cool, each has its own unique assets: graphics, researches, writing, analysises etc.
I think the best thing about this is that all Sixers bloggers have a good relationship between them, respect each other, and collaborate when there is the chance.
For what is worth, I don’t see any of the other sites as “competitors”, it’s great to have such good Sixers coverage all over the web, so that every reader can have multiple views on the team, different angles.
So kudos to Dannie & Pete for what they are doing here and let’s see if the hard work of all of us, bloggers, fans etc can positively affect the team !!
Regards from Italy ;-)
Looks like for the Philly, Wiz and Raptor teams you can only vote using Firefox. Just throwing that in as a heads up, because the page takes a long time to load.
Ricky - Thanks for nominating us I was wondering who did. As always appreciate all the kind words. Philadelphia bloggers do a hell of a job, but what else would anyone expect from the best fans in America -and Italy!
Dave T – Yeah there is some issue with the bottom polls. Daniel of LABallTalk is aware of it hopefully it evens out for all the blogs in the end and doesn’t skew the results.
