Stats
Once we traded Jason Knapp in the Cliff Lee deal, Trevor May almost instantly came in a filled that “young, power arm, high K/9, low H/9, needs to work on control” hole he left behind. In fact, May had almost the exact same K/9 and H/9 rates as Knapp last season. They both had a 6.8 H/9 rate and Knapp was slightly higher on K/9 rate (11.4 vs. 11.1). The problem with May right now is that he walks a ridiculous number of batters, but his hits allowed and strike-out rates show he has dynamic stuff.
Scouting Report
May is a 3-pitch thrower with above average stuff. His fastball sits around 92-94 and he compliments it with a nice 12-6 curve ball, which could be an out pitch for him in the majors. He also has a change-up, but needs to work on refining it. The overall repetoire reminds me of what I used to read about Brett Myers.
Path to the Majors
May could be fast-tracked the same way Drabek was if he can put in a full solid season in 2010. He will probably start in High-A, and if he proves himself there, could see a late season promotion to Reading. The earliest we could possibly see him is 2012, after another full year in the minors in 2011. That would mean pretty much everything goes right for him, which as we know with prospects, it rarely does.

Cliff Lee, minor surgery…
It’s sad that all the people who want to bring up the Lee trade at any possible moment, as a sign the Phillies are still cheap/stupid, are making me actually root against Lee this year, just so I don’t have to hear it.
