Zack, if we go off last year defense will be our top priority, that is why I think Ivey will be more of a factor than Willie and Kareem; start with a long defensive five and set the tempo, [Sam/Elton/Thad/Iggy and A.Miller.] Zack, my last impression of A.Miller from last year wasn!t a good one. If he has to excert that much energy this year he may be shot by playoff time, would rather have him pick his spots, like T.Hardaway did late in his career. Danny, have you noticed Willie actually filling the stat sheet with less minutes,[5 reb., 4 ass.] one game. He seems to want to be a more complete player and if he can defend he could earn 15 minutes a night. Ryan, have to agree to disagree on Kareem being a better all round player than Willie, I think Mo is going to have a hard time getting him minutes, especially at the 3 spot.An observation regarding our bench; we can!t have Reggie and Theo out there together, Theo looks good defensively but very timid offensively; a Spieghts/Reggie and Theo/Elton tandem rotation may work best. Zack, agree about Lou in the fourth if behind but ,again, if ahead defense is the priority.

Ryan...Yeah, it's not like I don't want Deron or anything like that. It was just that I was caught off guard and the next thing I knew I had him and I see that he happens to be injured and in an inversion boot. I wasn't ready for that. I know that's why he fell as far as he did and I'm sure someone would have scooped him up not too long after he fell in my lap. I know in a few weeks I'll be thrilled that I've got him. I was just worried about how long my team would be taking a hit without him. Thanks for the info.

I have to disagree with you Zack. I think you have to put the best defensive lineup you have on the floor, and you cant have that if Thad isnt a starter. And if you kept Igg at the 3, I think you would have to start Rush over WG because of the deep ball threat that would spread the floor, and I feel Rush is a better all around player than WG. Im not as much of a WG hater as most ppl, but i like him alot better off the bench. I feel that Lou is better than both WG and KR but you need his energy with the second unit. I really like thad on the wing, his jumper has been great in the summer league and preseason, and it looks like his ball handling is getting better. His decision making is the only thing I question but that will come with experience from logging starters minutes. The talent and hustle alone def puts WG on the bench. I do agree with you on Lou, he needs to be in there during the 4th. I dont care at what position and who sits for him. He lights it up at the end of games. With the starting lineup used in preseason, you have size, athlecticsm, talent, and defense at every position. Even if it takes those guys a while to come together, there is no way we'll miss the postseason, even if they get off to a slow start. When those five figure out where they should be I think its one of the best lineups in the NBA.

As far as the coaching staff, I'd have to say YES they are good enough. I think Mo doesnt get enough credit for his management because of his personality. Because of his decisions last year, we almost went .500 with a lineup that was picked to be one of the worst in the beginning of the season. If he can get that production out of the unit we had last year it shoudnt be a problem with the depth and talent we have this year. You also got to remember youre gonna have 2 coaches on the floor for a combined 60 min a game. I think the team is in great hands, and this season will be a success, wont really know for sure until the break.

Dannie, I don't have much confidence in Cheeks being able to bring this group together. I think he was great in being able to get a lot out of the young guys last year, and keeping them motivated all throughout the season. He was great at implementing that defend and run. So, I think this is a case where we should play to Mo's strengths. Could he make a good, well-rounded contender out of this squad? Maybe, maybe not. But we know for a FACT that given last year's players, with Andre Miller leading the way, we could do a lot of damage. So why not stay with what works?

I think Andre Miller regressing would be horrible for the team's record. And that would happen if he felt like he had to spend most of his time making sure everyone got their touches. But last year, he showed that if he was the top option that he could get it done.

Here are the lineups I would trust Cheeks with: what I mentioned before, with all the starters starting again except for Brand at the PF. The second quarter unit would have Ivey, Lou, Rush, Thad, and Speights/Ratliff. Thad has been mediocre at the wing, I don't want him there for now.

3rd quarter, the starters play, but limit Sammy's minutes and make sure he gets lots of rest. And in crunch time I trust Cheeks with: Brand, Sammy, Iggy, Lou and Miller. Last year, Sammy, Evans/Thad, Iggy Lou and Miller were awesome in the 4th, and if we replace Evans/Thad with Brand we become even better. I think the key is Lou playing crunch time.

Look, I'm all over the place with this, what are your thoughts? But you gotta answer this first - is Cheeks a good coach for what the team's trying to do this season? I don't think he is, so let's repeat what we did last season, but with a few tweaks.

bski- what ive read about Williams is that hes out for prob the next two weeks, with a 2nd degree inversion sprain. The MRI showed the bones and tendons to be fine. With that you may suffer in your first matchup, but after that you'll be just fine. I think you got a top 10 pick at 19, thats not bad at all.

In case any of you haven't seen this yet, check out this article on Marreese Speights. Pretty interesting, huh? I have to admit that I haven't been following the Sixers very closely because I'm too wrapped up in baseball.

I hope the fact that I have not been focused on basketball doesn't hurt me too badly in the fantasy league. I have been so ridiculously busy with everything my boys are involved in that I couldn't do any prep work for the draft. Also, since I have never been involved in a fantasy league of any kind, this was my first experience with a draft.

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit it, but I was caught off guard in the first round! I wanted to keep track of who everyone was taking so that I would know what they had, what they needed, and what positions were getting low on talent. I thought that would help me make better picks. Well, I was so busy trying to follow what everyone else was doing that I didn't allow myself time to evaluate what my first pick was going to be. Plus, Dannie had two consecutive picks and then it was back to me again so I had to be ready quickly with my second pick. I ended up running out of time, so Deron Williams was an autopick (I hope he's not out for too long and doesn't take to long to get up to speed). Dannie took Boozer right after me and I felt that I needed a big, so I went with Bosh. After those first two picks I caught on and got it under control.

I'm happy with my team overall and I'm looking forward to the season. As long as I put up a respectable showing, I'll be ok with it. At least I'll be more prepared for next year, now that I've seen how the process works.

Pete and Dannie...Thanks for putting the league together.

Zack - Interested to hear more, because I don't really agree with what you just said. Partly because I don't think decisions like that can or should be made based on one preseason game. But like I said, I am reserving judgment to get a better idea about what you are thinking. Can't wait for the season to get started.

suede, I have a couple of thoughts about what I saw in that preseason game, here's one of them:

I think we should stick with the foundation of last year's team and SLOWLY incorporate the new personnel. We start last year's starting lineup except we replace Reggie/Thad with Brand. We still have the Willie/Lou 1 and 3 / 2 and 4 rotation. Andre Miller should still be the focus of the offense, and should still be considered our go-to guy. with Iggy 2nd and Brand 3rd. Rush plays Carney's role.

gotta go, more later...
