ReclinerGM Chat: NLDS, Game 4

by Dannie on October 5, 2008

Jimmy Rollins HomerunJimmy Rollins leads off the game with a homerun.  That should be the perfect way to start some Phillies talk during the game.

Oh if you want to chime in on the Eagles 7-0 already (sure is good to have number 36 in the backfield again) feel free.

Have at it.

Back to back JACKS!  No wonder I’m not the manager of this club.  Burrell comes up HUGE!  That has got to be the worst pitch ever for Suppan.  What a mistake!  He had Burrell buried after throwing a perfect sinker low and away.  Instead of going with another one and getting Burrell to chase, he throws a fastball, belt high, inner half…see ya.

Blanton seems to have a good rhythm today (another reason I’m not the manager).  I’m sure Manuel will have a quick hook with him if he starts to struggle.  Now that we’ve got a lead, he will most likely do whatever is necessary, pitching-wise, to keep it and close this thing out.

bski, you’re here, huh?  Good, the computer is free at my place today…

3 Zack 10.05.08 at 2:23 pm

John Smoltz: “Joe Blanton is dealing.”  I love it, I love it…

4 Zack 10.05.08 at 2:26 pm

bski, just promise me you won’t look past this game, to you know what…

5 bski 10.05.08 at 2:37 pm

I won’t look past it, but I have to say that having Blanton pitch this well is a relief because the way the you-know-what lays out, we will need to use a 4th starter once.  Based on today, it appears that we will be able to count on Blanton to make that start.

Whoa, isn’t that a ground-rule double, or  a foul at the very least?

7 Zack 10.05.08 at 2:52 pm

bski, I love Manuel’s lineup today, by the way.  I’ve got a couple gold stars in mind for his notebook today.  Though I was thinking it’d be fun if I was always looking to criticize him, and you were always looking to defend him.  Not today, at least.

did pat burrell just earn himself a contract?  (pssst… Pat, except a paycut.)

9 bski 10.05.08 at 3:03 pm

Zack, I like today’s lineup too.  Do I always defend Manuel?  What kind of self-respecting Philadelphia fan am I, huh?  Speaking of criticizing, one of your favorite punching bags, Rollins, is having himself a good series.

I was talking to Blanton after he threw that first fastball past Fielder.  I wanted him to throw a 3-2 slider.  He didn’t hear me.  That’s ok.  He gave us a very good start.  We have a good lead and a bullpen that is still pretty rested.  All we need is 9 outs.  I’ll sacrifice a run here and there to get them.

bski, I know about J-Roll, I know…  I’ll touch on that later, right now, Madson’s gotta keep me from reaching for my meds by getting the Phils out of trouble right now…

12 bski 10.05.08 at 3:24 pm

Nice job by Madson.  He has really come on strong over the last few weeks.  Also, what a play by Howard!  First, I can’t believe he caught that ball.  Then he gets up and makes a nice toss to Madson.  Only 6 outs to go.  I’d love to see us get a few more runs and put this game way out of reach.

alright, this is what running diaries are all about – who do you pitch in the 8th if you’re Charlie?  I hate to look ahead, but with a 4-run lead, I’d like to save Romero for you-know-what.  But with Hamels pitching game 1 of you-know-what, it’d be alright to use him.  Juan Carlos it is for me.

14 Zack 10.05.08 at 3:34 pm

bski, I love you man, calling for more runs like that and the Phils go ahead and do it, and it’s your man-crush Burrell, what kind of sweet nothings were you saying to him just then?

15 bski 10.05.08 at 3:35 pm

Zack, Did you see Burrell whip me the finger as he was rounding the bases after his second homerun?  I don’t know how he found out that I wanted to sit him today.

I’d like to see Madson pitch the 8th.  He didn’t throw that many pitches in the 7th.  If not him, then I’d give Durbin another shot.  He struggled last night, but maybe going right back to him today will get him right.

16 bski 10.05.08 at 3:38 pm

Zack, No doubt Burrell is cute, but he’s not my type.  Again, I wanted to sit him, remember?  BTW, Madson is back in there for the 8th.

17 Zack 10.05.08 at 3:43 pm

Madson vs. Fielder, very very very very very tense people at my place right now…

18 Zack 10.05.08 at 3:46 pm

Manuel’s moves are paying off, it’s his day…  I just wish both the Eagles and Phils could win today, recently it seems like the Birds can’t win when the Phils do.

19 bski 10.05.08 at 3:46 pm

3 outs to go.  Wouldn’t it be nice to get that run the Brewers just scored back?  (I know I’m pushing my luck, but it might work again.)

20 Zack 10.05.08 at 3:48 pm

Feliz on base, I hope Manuel bunts him over.

21 Zack 10.05.08 at 3:53 pm

bski, here we go, see ya after  25, 26 and 27…

22 bski 10.05.08 at 3:55 pm

Well, it didn’t work this time.  Manuel isn’t messing around with this one.  Lidge is in to finish it.  Let’s hope for another 12 pitch 1-2-3 9th.

23 Zack 10.05.08 at 4:03 pm

Ok, the Phils are facing the Dodgers in the NLCS!!!  What an awesome sentence!!!

24 Zack 10.05.08 at 4:06 pm

bski, are you okay?  Do you some kind of delayed feed?  The Phils won, relax…

25 bski 10.05.08 at 4:07 pm

How about it!  Feels good!

26 bski 10.05.08 at 4:08 pm

I’m ok.  I was just enjoying Burrell’s postgame interview and all the champagne spraying.

27 bski 10.05.08 at 4:10 pm

I’m thrilled to see that this year is much different from last year.  We’ve established some good things going forward.  We’ll be rested and ready come Thursday.  No reason we can’t get the job done against the Dodgers.

28 Zack 10.05.08 at 4:11 pm

bski, my friends and I wanna go out, will discuss later, alright?  BTW, that Eagles loss must be the worst under-the-radar loss ever, even Comcast SportsNet is ignoring them.  Enjoy the rest of the day, buddy!

29 Zack 10.05.08 at 4:14 pm

Gotta get this in, though – I love how there really wasn’t an MVP of the series, everyone contributed, that’s a team right there!  As a matter of fact, you really couldn’t finger an LVP, everyone did something!  Go Phils!!!

30 bski 10.05.08 at 4:18 pm

No problem.  Talk to you later, Zack.
