ReclinerGM MLB Preview: What Do You Want To See?

I’m getting together my MLB preview, which will be a team-by-team preview like the NBA one.

My question is simple: What would you guys like to read about? I’m definitely going to do “Key Player” and “Player to Watch” and just a general “Outlook/Prediction.” I’d like to add 2 more categories, and I’ll leave it open for suggestions (but no promises I’ll use them!).

Last year I just did “Biggest Strength” and “Biggest Weakness,” but I’d like to make it a little more interesting. I’ve got a bunch of ideas, but let’s see what you guys have to say.

i expect you’ve already got these ones; top prospect likely to be called up, free agent additions and subtractions with regard to positions.
also if you can sneak a scouting report on a pitcher or two (either free agent or possible call up)

  2. bball says:

I like reading a division/position comparison to see where we fit in.  Maybe a 1-5 ranking of each position for all the NL east teams

  3. Stu says:

How about “Top Players in a contract year” so we can follow players that may be in Phillies (or Yankees) pinstripes the following season!  I never know who has the potential to be available

  4. Pete says:

    jkay-

will add top prospect to the list. not sure I’ll have time to scout a pitcher for each team though. I would love to do a “best pitch” i.e. Brad Lidge’s slider or Cole Hamels’ change-up. I’ll see if I can’t figure that out.
    bball-
i’ll be doing the Phillies preview position by position and will add that at the bottom.
    stu-
good idea. i was already doing “worst contract” so I’ll add that on.
    keep ‘em coming
  5. jef says:

I like the top prospects, but also would love to see a “Who to watch in the minors” for players not likely to see MLB action in 2009, but in 2010.  On a lighter note:

Managers most likely to get fired
    Potential dates for Alyssa Milano
    Hottest WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends)
Philly most like to be traded

  6. jjg says:

Pete  In balancing counterpoint to seriously looking ahead, on the side of whimsy:   former player, the memory of whom is ‘positive & indelible’ or ‘indelible, positively’ it takes a cast of characters to build a legacy.

  7. Ryan F says:

I liked the philadelphia connection category in the NBA one..

  8. Pete says:

    Ryan F-

Started doing that, but there weren’t enough ex-Phillies around to make it work.

  9. Ryan F says:

Ahh, okay.  That’s too bad, it would of been good for a little reminiscing.

  10. J Dubbz says:

How about looking at how the Phils matchup against each team (mostly NL teams)?  Historically as a team as well as individual players/pitchers.

  11. bski says:

A lot of good suggestions from everyone.  What about something along this line of thought…….For each team:  What was the biggest reason they came up short/didn’t win in 2008, what did they do in the off season to address this shortcoming, is it enough to make a positive impact in 2009, and, if so, how much of one?

  12. Jesse says:

Something discussing players that have high injury risks. I know it may be difficult for position players but I remember last year sometime you posted an article discussing increased workloads for pitchers and the effect it had the following season…

  13. Stu says:

“…there weren’t enough ex-Phillies around to make it work.”

You mean Tony Longmire is no longer in the Major League?

  14. Ryan F says:

How about the team in questions success against the PHills/matchup neg/pos?

  15. Ryan F says:

    ebd of season possibilities etc.
