I don’t consider myself an expert on the NFL Draft, but I am all jazzed up for Saturday and Sunday (even though if the Eagles don’t end up with Moreno, Boldin or Wells, I’m going to be upset) and ESPN made a NFL Draft Machine, which means I’m going to mess around with it.
I’ve kept up with all the rumors, did some quick research on team needs, and here is the way I think the first round will play out. Note that this not how I would draft (I think Stafford and the USC linebackers Cushing and Matthews are going to be huge busts, for example), but how I think the teams will actually draft.
Of course, as with all mock drafts, this has no chance of actually happening because once 1 pick is wrong, they rest are usually wrong too. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts.

Arizona is now asking for a 2nd round pick and other compensation for Boldin. can you imagine if we traded the second rounder for Boldin and got Moreno in the first round? Please please please nfl draft gods let this happen.
I think that is what every Eagles fan is thinking.
Pete, a beat writer from San Diego was on E.S.P.N. radio 5 minutes ago and stated S.Diego wants to move down [get a 2nd rounder] and the Giants want to move up to get a reciever. If that happens Moreno could fall into our lap, but like you say, it is the Eagles.
6 for 6 so far! good think Mel Kiper and Todd McShay are getting paid so much.
Pete, I can!t be too unhappy, we addressed 2 needs and if we get a blocking tight end and center tommorow it will be a good draft.
I wasn’t all that happy with the first pick and I am not entirely certain we addressed one of the needs you are referring to Suede. I just don’t understand the reasoning for moving up in the draft to take a slot receiver.
We didn’t just need a receiver we needed a #1 receiver with size, not a slot guy or potential #2 at best, that is just okay in size. How does that pick help us in the red zone? Maybe it does and I am off base here. I am admittedly not a football guy.
Why not give up the #1 for Boldin if you wanted a receiver bad enough that you spent a first round pick (and moved up) to get one? This makes very, very little sense to me. I guess it just clearly tells us the Eagles just didn’t want to pay Boldin even though they can afford to.
If anyone can help me understand the rational behind the first pick that would be great.
I like the 2nd pick and the ESPN guys called him Brian Westbrook light.
Dannie,
From what all the experts say Maclin was the second-rated WR in the draft and th 8-10th rated player overall depending on whose list you use. Maybe he has the potential to be a star receiver for a lot less money and for a longer time than Boldin. I also heard that Boldin may have a chronic hip problem that may shorten his career.
Dannie, he was supposed to be gone earlier and is not as small as Jackson. I think he helps our return game also. I wanted Bolden also but I feel all those rumours were a P.R. move on the Eagles part similar to Memphis bidding for Josh Smith knowing Atlanta would match. Earlier today Didinger on WIP said they liked V.Davis [cornerback]. I was just happy they got 2 play makers instead of trying to outthink everybody else.
Duracorr - I am aware of the ratings and I know he is talented. I don’t care about that in general as much as I care about how it relates to the Eagles specifically. I think a lot of draft mistakes come when teams draft on rating/talent more than team fit (forcing a square peg in a round hole). Now I don’t necessarily think that is the case here. I am just questioning whether that was the optimal option available to the Birds (maybe it was). If Maclin is on the field and productive in the red zone (20th in scoring % and 22nd in TD% in red zone last season) I am happy. Otherwise I don’t get the pick considering all the options.
I will say they clearly went playmaker early which is a nice change for this franchise of late. To appease Mr. McNabb?
they got a top 10 player at 19.. i dont really care i’m a firm beleiver in taking the best player on the board.. Maclin could end up becoming a slot receiver but then again.. Desean could have been another bust eagles receiver taken too high in the draft he proved that skill positions can be taken high and pay off if used correctly.. i’m going to trust the birds heirarchy and say if they think getting a steal at that point in the draft in Maclin is a good idea then i’m willing to see how this turns out..
