Allen Iverson is by far my favorite athlete I have ever watched. We were lucky to have him on our team for as long as we did.

As far as him in the clutch...take a look at this if your intrested. It's the AI highlights in one of my favorite games played by him. It was against T-Mac and the Magic in 2001. You remember...the And 1 shot he hit at the buzzer and then sunk the free throw.

Watching that makes me want Allen Iverson back with the Sixers.

Allan Houston - a career 40% three point shooter would be a much better fit along side Thad or Iguodala at the small forward in the starting.

By the way Houston was a professional shooter, the type of player the Sixers are really missing. He only shot under 38% from three once (his rookie season). That's pretty damn good.

He he is 23rd all-time in three-point and free throw percentage. Oh and his numbers are slightly better in the playoffs than regular season.

About the AI debate:

He was a ballhog who wouldn’t play the right way, and therefore had to go so we could build a real team.

First off what is a "real team?" I'm sorry I don't know what that means. I am pretty sure he was on a team that got to the finals winning 56 games. Was that not a "real" team?

Second he was a ballhog, but so was MJ, Kobe, Wade, LeBron. I was just watching the Cavs/Heat game last night and every possession down the stretch Wade and LeBron demanded the ball. AI was no different. If he thought he had a shot he took it if he was trapped he still would try to shoot it because he was that sure in his ability, but he also passed it as well. I've seen all these guys take bad shots. They do it because no matter the situation they think they are good enough.

He was a warrior who not only would have made the game winning shot against Denver, he probably never would have allowed his teammates to piss away a 17-point lead in the first place.

I don't know if he would have made the game winning shot against Denver. But what I do know for sure is HE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A SHOT for himself or a teammate.

For those of you that for some crazy reason think AI didn't make game winning or tying shots did miss the one he JUST HIT against OKC to win the game for Detroit. And his reaction was perfect. Simply acted like he been there before, something other players should learn.

More data - check this out. The most interesting part is the % at which he hits it and the fact that none of those other guys have very many assists either do they. And that is JUST a 3 year period of time. How quickly we forget!

Mike, Allan at least could catch and shoot where as Iggy has to drive through 3 guys to score at the end of a game, do you hear me E.S. ? Let Iggy drive and kick it at least.

Mike, different styles but can't dispute the results. Could use Houston in his prime on this sixers team. Need an outside threat.

I may just be a disgruntled NY Knicks fan but what are you guys bitcen about ?

although I will say a few things.... Iggy = Allan Houston

both 6 foot 6
both shooting guards

Allan averaged 20 points per game for his 6 best seasons and scored every single one of those points in periods 1, 2 and 3

both overpaid and therefore untradeable

Drolz, Also thrilled about the eagle's miracle day.
I seem to remember that during most of AI's career, he used to monopolize the ball at the end of game situations and force bad shots since he had no confidence in his teammates. I don't think he hit to many end of game shots. I do believe he prevented offensive slumps due to his offensive prowess. Maybe, I'm wrong but that's how I remember it.

But seriously, I really had something to say before the Eagles went on and gave the Cowboys a butt-whooping like no other (I freaking love it!).

Thought you all would like to know that my buddies are now arguing about AI. The Original AI, Allen Iverson. Basically it's:

1) He was a ballhog who wouldn't play the right way, and therefore had to go so we could build a real team.

vs.

2) He was a warrior who not only would have made the game winning shot against Denver, he probably never would have allowed his teammates to piss away a 17-point lead in the first place.

I don't know the answer. I'm just an average fan. But I do know Iverson had a star quality and thrived in game-on-the-line situations. We do have some flashes of potential from our younger guys right now but we don't have that take-over-the-game superstar who slams the door shut on other teams. (Yes, it's a team game, but it still helps to have an MJ, a Kobe, a LeBron, etc, to stop the bleeding when all hell is breaking loose.)
