Guys I am a little under the weather but I wanted to something where you can chat during and after the game.
Luckily for the Sixers the Phillies have an off day so there might actually be some supporters at the game and watching on TV – but not many. Right now the Sixers need to really earn the trust and time of Philadelphia sports fans who have plenty of other local sports action to keep them occupied. Tonight needs to be the start of swaying some folks over to OTHER red, blue and white team.
This is a good very early barometer game since we are completely forgetting what went on Wednesday. The Bucks, like us have a lot of questions to answer and are considered a mediocre team. Are we on par, better or worse then them we will find out in a few hours.
We get a look at Brandon Jennings one of the top point guard prospects in the draft. He his a lightening quick point guard who earned the starting job over Luke Ridnour. Lou Williams MUST get the best of that match-up.
Thoughts?

Interesting initial subs: Ivey, Speights and Kapono, leaving Dala and Thad on the floor with them.
Dannie, good to see Elton aggressive. The team seems to move the ball better with Kapono on the floor. Willie may be losing minutes more each game. Carney, Ivey and Jrue all look so much quicker on defense and may all be better jump shooters when all is said and done. I like the fact Jrue isn!t afraid to finish with his left hand.
I knew someone was going to bring up the one thing Jrue did all game.
Willie definitely lost minutes and his position in the rotation. He didn’t play at all in the first half and for the second game he wasn’t the second guard off the bench behind Kapono. Jordan apparently likes Ivey right now. Carney didn’t play at all tonight actually.
Brand made his 15 footers that is a good sign. His rebounding was extremely lackluster. On the flip side Speights didn’t do anything offensively but he had 7 boards in 13 minutes.
Milwaukee doesnt play well as a team. Iguodala turnovers are killing us. Speights played well today. i’ll take this Brand anyday, awesome defense. Willie Green needs to start dropping on the depth chart. Kapono plays good help defense in addition to bailing us out. Why was Carney a no show? hmm no let down against Knicks i hope.
LETS GO PHILLIES
Septa is really gonna embarass us if they go through with this.
Just happy to see him [Jrue] get some burn.Carney looked good last game, wonder why the D.N.P. ?
so is Elton Brand the new Chris Webber? Can’t do anything but shoot jumpers at like 45% and occasionally put up 20. Hooooray.
Iguodala turnovers are killing us. jkay: I saw 19 points on 12 shots, 9 def. rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and excellent defense on the opponents’ best player (Redd 6-17). 4 turnovers is higher than one would like, but they hardly “killed” the Sixers when Iguodala was the best player on the floor in a 13-point win.
They looked better offensively. But they played one of the weakest offensive teams in the league and struggled for three quarters. I am really interested to see how they deal with the Knicks running and gunning. They are going to have to defend better because the Knicks are capable of putting some points on the board unlike the Bucks who really need another scorer.
Jennings looked really good. His only flaw was taking a few bad shots but his first game ended up with a near triple double: 17-9-9 is pretty damn impressive. He ended up with 5 turnovers but he only had 2 going into the last couple minutes of the game when it was clearly over.

76ers
41-41
The optimistic view for a team on the playoff bubble and on a tight budget: If Philly could go 41-41 amid all of last season’s early chaos, Eddie Jordan’s arrival should steady the Sixers right into the 45-win range.
What do you think the “tight budget” comment refers to???
It was very encouraging to look at the box score and see: ”Willie Green – 8 minutes” …never thought Id see the day.
Suede: Carney did have a nice game, but I have a feeling lots of the 7th-10th players on our team…W Green, Carney, Kapono, J Smith, J Holiday…will be getting inconsistent minutes to start the season with as Eddie juggles around different lineups to see what he likes best.
Brandon Jennings – Bucks may have found the gem they needed to save their franchise going forward.
DaveT., looks like this p.g. crop may live up to its billing; your boy Flynn is playing well. It seemed Carney brought in a defensive energy the other night, a backcourt of he and either Ivey or Jrue hopefully can lock down somebackcourts for short stretches.
suede, Defensively speaking, reading and positioning and sheer physical toughness are as important as quickness in the science & art of stopping others. Lou Williams is quick. Who does he stop? AI, once quick as a blink, was a defensive liabilty. Willie will wait his turn and serve, again, in underappreciated ways. Ivey and Holiday do offer some nice positives – shooting, not one of them.
Pete, Elton Brand is a lot like Chris Webber - full of hooey. He’s been “ready” on camera for 2 years now to “bring it”… he’s brought it alright. Pulled a fast one on Dunleavy; is not pullin’ much for Sixers. His rumored great work ethic bears little fruit. They could’ve acquired Clem Cadiddlehopper for a lot less.
Brian – “tight budget” to me means no roster flexibility and no room to take advantage of an opportunity should one arise. What does it mean in that power rankings write-up: at this point I think most people think Elton Brand will become if he is not already a sunk cost.
But specifically say for example this team really plays well under Jordan and are running 4th in the East. They wouldn’t be in position to make a game changing move before the playoffs to give them a better chance to really compete with Boston (the team I think is by far the best in the East) and to a lesser degree Cleveland or Orlando.
That would be the short term view of “tight budget.”
Which is more expository and representative of 76er team quality? 41 pt., down-by-6, raggedy 1st half vs. “aspiring” Bucks in home opener? Or “we’re better than them”, “let’s get it on”, gallopin’, 15 point-gain 3rd quarter? Or do the distinctly different displays, in concert, tell the same old story - up and down, and, ultimately, average?
Knicks game tonight should prove to be more interesting, an indoor track meet at Madison Square Garden … harking back to the days of Jim Beatty, Jim Ryan, Kip Keino, Marty Liquori and the late Steve Prefontaine.
Opinions about this year’s team, and last night’s game: For the most part, it was a good game. Sammy was good on the defensive end. That goaltending call in the first quarter was horrible, that was a great block. He blew some ducks for sure, but his offensive game is surprising me. He’s doing so much more out there: putting the ball on the floor and going to the hole. using some fakes. His shot looks much less awkward this year, that fall away jumper from the baseline looked sweet. If he could just relax he’ll start knocking them down with regularity, all Sam needs is 10 shots, and 30 mpg.
After basketball, Andre should become a magician, the way he’s able to make himself disappear, it’s amazing. For too many stretches he becomes invisible, then all of a sudden, (usually in the 4th qtr), he wakes up and plays like an all-star. He needs to bring it earlier, and for longer stretches. Living in L.A. I’ve seen a lot of Elton over the years, so my advice to jjg and others who are disappointed in his play, have patience, he just needs some time to get back in the groove. After all, he has missed almost 2 years, and is playing with a new team, it’ll take some time, but he’ll get there. I know it’s early, but I feel good about Lou at the point, his outside shot looks like it might be a little better this year. Actually, his game reminds me of a young Tony Parker, I think he’ll be fine.
In closing just let me say I’m pretty optimistic about this year, we are deep and there’s talent 1 thru 12. I don’t think it’s going to happen, but, I just hope they don’t do to Rodney Carney what the did to Kareem Rush last year. Rodney has talent and deserves to be in the rotation, last night gave me a little scare.
Guest: i didnt say he did not have a good game. he played very well as expected but i noticed that every time he turns over the ball it kinda kills our flow on offense. its not bcos of just this game, the opener against Orlando as well. he’s our set up man so turnovers are much worse than missing shots.
good defense too; Redd is slow footed but deceptive and crafty.
Hadn’t seen any Sixers play until the 2nd half of last night, and here’s what I saw in that small sample size. Brand looked better than advertised and was a major contributor in all phases, Sammy is still Sammy, I felt surprisingly decent about Lou’s PG play, Holiday flashed some ability, and kudos to Coach Jordan for not giving Green a mindless 20 minutes. That said, the Bucks are terrible.
Poor worthless wealthy Willie; Mr. Guilty, that’s his name. He is the one, the no good bum; he does deserve all blame.
