Anyone else sick of watching this team? This team has lost 3 straight and are 2-8 over the last ten games. I don’t see any progress, do you guys? Deepsixersuede accurately and concisely summed this game up in the comment sections – “more of the same.”
Sixers vs. Cleveland Game Notes
- Too many turnovers (17)
- Below average free throw shooting (11-16, 68.8%)
- Inability to put the ball in the hole (43.5% from the field)
- Disgusting three point shooting (1-12, 8.3%) I guess this answers my pre-game question; will they shoot better then the 1-10 they shot in the previous game – NO. Ridiculous. I’d love for someone to explain why we are paying Kareem Rush to wear street clothes to the game now.
What’s is there to analyze that we haven’t said 100 times already this season. The Cavs actually shot slightly worse than the Sixers from the field, but made 6 threes, attempted 8 more free throws and made 7 more from the line, attempted 9 more shots because of all the Sixer turnovers and their 14 offensive rebounds which lead to them making 2 more field goals in the game.
The Philadelphia 76ers are a bad basketball team. The coaches are clueless. The players as a unit are inept offensively and inconsistent and soft defensively. When is the light ever going to turn on with this team? When will they figure it out? Right now I see no light at the end of the tunnel.
Next game: Tomorrow at home against the 4-16 Washington Wizards
To the casual fan this game looks like a regular home game. To me this looks like a potential and very realistic last game for Maurice Cheeks. Wouldn’t a loss to the Wizards at home, the worst team in the Eastern Conference and the team with the 4th worst record in the NBA be a “straw that broke the camel’s back” type loss?

Dannie, What is there to say ? And more importantly, who can come in and fix this mess ?
I have some thoughts about how to fix the offense. But I tend to agree with JJG about defense. You can coach as much as you want about defense but you still gotta have something intrinsically in you as a player defensively. And I am not sure the majority of players on this team have enough toughness physically and mentally to be stalwarts defensively. Let alone fully understand the basics of good team and individual defense.
Are what you saying Dannie is if a Van Gundy tried to come in here and win “ugly” this group couldn!t do it ? Because if that is the case we are really in trouble.
There were possessions where we defended the Cavs very well, but hit some tough shots with the shot clock winding down like that lucky bounce from Varejao and the two threes Pavlovic hit. But turnovers were the main story for the Sixers. After taking better care of the ball the last couple of games, this was a step back in that department.
Now, for the Sixers, they can make some ground with this 4 game stretch (tom v.s Wizards, 12/17 v.s Bucks, 12/19 @ Wizards, 12/20 v.s Pacers).
I hope Lou Williams feels better because his energy on both ends of the floor, especially offensively, was sorely missed!!
Now, I would like to hear from Washington Wizards fans and people about Eddie Jordan. Get their perspective!
I am saying that is a possibility not to be overlooked when considering the grand scheme of things. I definitely think someone could come in here and make it better, but how much better is really a mystery to me. I question how much potential this group of players really has.
Rob, I don!t feel confident against anybody right now, Elton has no legs right now and there is no identity at all.
Dannie, there are only a few really good coaches in the league right now, would E.S. possibly go the college route ?
Well, I!m going to bed with a vision of E.S. spending big bucks to hire Van Gundy with E.Jordan as his top assistant, a guy can dream, can!t he ?
Umm, not just this game Iguodala but all season. I don’t know about anyone else but I didn’t think mental toughness was something that is a game-by-game thing. You kind of have it or you don’t, and this team doesn’t. They are a joke.
Suede – I doubt E.S. would go the college coach route. He has to be quietly trying to find a replacement coach behind the scenes among the unemployed/temporary retired coaches out there.
in pretty much every game this season we’ve had stretches where we play very well. usually, like tonight, they are first quarters. in the first quarter we saw defensive intensity and active hands leading to the fast break and open looks. that’s our game, and almost every man on the roster can play it. for some reason though, this team is unable to sustain that style for an entire game. to me, that’s a failure of coaching.
when the game slows down, the decision-making of the players is more informed by the offensive system, so we get to see the way the coaches want their offense to function. when this happens the Sixers pretty much exclusively run pick and rolls or pick and pops. they rarely get in good position, the picks are ineffective, and the guards seem reluctant explode around the corner. we settle for long jumpers half the time, which we all know is not the strength of this team. this is a group of slashing finishers. to me, that’s a failure of coaching.
i love mo, but he’s lost the team. he’s simply not going to take us to the next level. his skill-set is that of a great assistant coach, but on x’s and o’s, he’s not it. it’s time for Ed to choose his coach, and knowing him, he’s got somebody good in mind. he needs to do it now, while we can still salvage the season.
noah: good call, the slower the game gets the worse the sixers look.
think Brand’s health is an official concern now.
Dave T: regarding trades i was hoping more for exchanging draft picks. sammy and miller cap space mean we can even land ben gordon [dreaming is healthy] i don’t think the team is a mess, i like to think of it as a puzzle, we have SOME talent we just need to make it work and ADD MORE. moment of clarity here; when i see a rookie like Speights on the floor, i realize that a lot of ur talent has been overvalued WITH RESPECT TO the rest of the league. that is why i know the hawks will clinch #4 seed. i am all for creating new holes so we can work to re-fill them as opposed to the makeshift scaffolds we stand on to brag about.
at this point all that can be said probably has. rest assured the coaching change will come, but even with that my hopes are not that elevated.
Thad was good-to-go today, why did he play jut 19 mins?
Cmn Mo u gtta throw us a bone!
If I!m Mo, I pull out a small ,quick lineup starting tonight with Elton/Thad/Iggy/Willie and A.Miller and go with Marriesse/Reggie/Kareem and L.Will. and run, run, run; what does he have to lose?
This team is a joke. Coach cheeks skill set is that he would be a great person to get a beer with and talk about the old days. As far as being a great assistant coach, unless he does the players dry cleaning, he has nothing to offer.
Kareem Rush, I agree Dannie. How freakin crazy is it that this kid hasn’t gotten any consistent burn?
Since we are making a b-line for lottery, once again like the good old days. The good news is that out of the top 30 prospects, 10 are pg’s!
Yeah, another season where at the 25 or so game mark we can start scouting the draft! Just like old times boys! Hey since teams are allowed to carry 15 players, can someone please explain to me why we only have 14? Would it kill us to try and develop a player, any player. Ed steff. sucks, until he does something to prove this theory wrong. Make your move ed, come on dude get off your ass and do something.
Greek - The Sixers could add a 15th player but remember only 13 guys suit up for the game. Rush/Theo/Marshall are rotating being that odd man out now. You would have to really bring in a player Mo/new coach/Stefanski loves in order for him to see the floor.
I was thinking about sending him to the D league, god and sixers fans know that Cheeks wouldn’t play him! Is this rock bottom Dannie? Can we get any lower? How do other teams have shooters, guys who when there wide open for a trey nail it? Why is it when our guys shoot the rock we just expect it to not go in?
And how does it help us that our most talented player, Thad is coming off the bench? Are we going to win it this year? This team has dont nothing but shit on my hopes for the past 26 years. Might as well bring iverson back, because if were going to lose we might as well lose with some style.
My take: Rush plays small. Game is limited almost entirely to the ol’ swisheroo, if he can get it to swish, which hasn’t happened often this year. Admittedly, it’s hard to find your shooting groove when you know you’re on a short leash and are looking over your shoulder after each miss. Still, I think you’re reaching for straws if you think he’s the answer to Sixers’ woes. As a player, what else does he bring to the table? Sorely needed: better coaching, better 2-way players.
BREAKING NEWS:
MO CHEEKS IS NO LONGER OUR COACH
JJG - I argue we have little clue what Rush can do. I don’t think he is the “answer” but could he be a solid contributor is all I ask. We are one of three teams at the bottom of the league at 30% from three. We are 9-14 and in the bottom of the division. I’d just like to see Marshall and Rush on the court at the same time for a few minutes to see if that opens some space for Brand, driving lanes and give better spot up kick out options. I just want to see it. If it doesn’t work so be it. We try something else. But more of the same isn’t working right now either.
Dannie Haven’t seen Rush enough to draw a conclusion but he doesn’t excite. My comments were based on what I’ve observed in his limited Sixer minutes and one game last year as Pacer where he contributed to win over Sixers. You may be right; could be a piece, a specialist, if used properly, I don’t know. 4th team; career 40% FG, 36% 3 PT, 70 FT isn’t impressive. With team in disarray, can’t hurt to give a reputed shooter a more extended look. But with Rush, Marshall & Brand on court at same time, gonna need King Kong & Godzilla alongside to defend.
Just saw on ESPN where Maurice Cheeks got fired. My initial response is GREAT! I hate to see him lose his job, but this team was going nowhere. In my opinion, he had no concept of coaching offense, everything was one-on-one, and his defense always led to mismatches and easy baskets. I don’t know if Tony can coach, but I’m pretty sure we’ll be better off than we are now. This move will make tonight’s game much more interesting.
