The trade deadline is fast approaching exactly two weeks away. The date: February 19th. In true Recliner GM fashion this post will be dedicated to compiling all your trade proposals in one place. I’ve seen a ton on the blog in the comments section, and that’s just hard to keep track off. So I figured we just get them all front and center.
Here’s the deal: send me your Sixers trades via email (not in the comments), and I will post it here. If you want to include a short pitch for why your deal works and why the Sixers and trade partner will do it, feel free. Be concise though, we’ll save the ranting for the comment section. The comments will be used to discuss and break down the proposed trades listed.
The rules: Make sure the deal works financially using the ESPN Trade Machine. When you email me provide the link to your approved deal. Save the crazy, fantasy trades for your dreams please. Provide the name/nickname you want attributed to the proposed trade and a link to your website if you have one. You can send as many as you want.
I will organize the trades by the the significant Sixers players being moved. Let’s get started.
Andre Miller Trades
Sixers Give: Andre Miller
Sixers Get: Steve Blake, Travis Outlaw and the rights to Petteri Koponen
Addition: If Portland wants Reggie Evans as well add Channing Frye and Ike Diogu (combined 6 mill. expiring) to the players going the Sixers way. Frye gets audition for rest of this year, he may stick.
Andre Miller + Thaddeus Young Trades
Sixers Give: Andre Miller, Thaddeus Young, Reggie Evans and a conditional #1 pick
Sixers Get: Amare Stoudemire
Pitch: Phoenix gets a young wing, a backup for Nash for this season, and some interior toughness. Miller’s contract comes off the books this summer, putting Phoenix below the luxury tax threshold next year. The Sixers get Amare, obviously. -20% chance.
From: Brian, Depressed Fan
——————–
Sixers Give: Andre Miller and Thaddeus Young
Sixers Get: Ramon Sessions and Richard Jefferson
Pitch: Sixers get there point guard of future and replace Thad with a veteran of equal or better production who shoots the 3pter pretty well. Iggy moves to the 2 spot. Millwaukee gets a potental star in Thad & an expiring deal.
From: SFW
Andre Miller + Marreese Speights Trades
Sixers Give: Andre Miller, Marreese Speights (or Thaddeus Young), Willie Green and a first round pick
Sixers Get: Amare Stoudemire
Portland Details: Give first round pick, Serio Rodriguez, Raef LaFrentz. Get Andre Miller and Willie Green.
Suns Details: Give Amare. Get 2 first round picks, Sergio Rodriguez, Speights (or Thad) and Raef LaFrentz.
Pitch: The Suns would get 2 #1’s, Speights (or Thad), Sergio and LaFrentz for Amare. Remember, LaFrentz’s expiring is 80% insured, so its like giving the Suns millions of free cash.
If Portland does not want Amare, I could see them willing to help the Sixers by facilitating a trade. That would help them land Miller while ensuring Amare gets shipped out of the conference to a non-elite team. Probably would be a steal for the Sixers.
From: TK76, Philly Arena
————————————–
Sixers Give: Andre Miller and Marreese Speights
Sixers Get: Kevin Love and Mike Miller
Pitch: What do you think? It brings us the shooter we need. It brings us an inside presence to rebound and score since Brand is out for the year. Minnesota gets Speights to go alongside Jefferson. Speights and Love are right around the same age and are equally talented. And the Wolves get Andre Miller to run the show for the rest of the year to allow Foye to roam free on the floor. It will make things easier for Foye and he and Telfair can be nurtured for the remainder of the season so they are ready for PG duties next year. Mike Miller hasn’t panned out for the Wolves and Andre Miller probably won’t be back with either team anyways.
From: Cheesesteak
Andre Miller + Thaddeus Young + Marreese Speights Trades
Sixers Give: Andre Miller, Thaddeus Young, Marreese Speights and a #1 pick
Sixers Get: Amare Stoudemire
Pitch: Phoenix has put Amare on the block and I believe the 6ers have the most chips to get it done. When you trade a star in the NBA, you never get enough in return. With this deal, Phx gets their SF and PF of the future, cap space and a top 20 pick.
I believe Chicago, Toronto and others may be in the running for Amare, but Ed Stefanski will have the best package if he wants to make the move.
When Brand returns next year, I would play Amare at the 5 and EB at the 4. Trading Miller leaves a hole at the 1, but free agency or a Brand or Dalembert trade could bring a 1…Dalembert for Hinrich?
From: Lloyd Braun
Andre Miller + Willie Green Trades
Sixers Give: Miller, Willie Green, Kareem Rush
Sixers Get: Sergio Rodriguez, Travis Outlaw, Raef LaFrentz
Pitch: Miller to Blazers…and we finally get rid of Green. This is tweak of the big rumor on the Realgm board. I believe Green is the hold up in this deal. Portland, IMO, wants Evans and the 6ers want to send Green. Rodriguez breaks out with a chance to play full time. Outlaw provides the 6th-7th man combo with Williams that proves to be deadly. This deal gets done when Philly says they will move Evans, but they want a #1 as well. Portland declines, saying they will take Green. That gets it done.
From: Lloyd Braun
——————————-
Sixers Give: Andre Miller, Willie Green, Kareem Rush and Donyell Marshall
Sixers Get: Charlie Villanueva, Ramon Sessions, Raef Lafrentz and Malik Allen
Portland Details: Give Ike Diogu, Sergio Rodriguez, Raef Lafrentz and Channing Frye. Get Andre Miller, Charlie Bell and Donyell Marshall.
Bucks Details: Give Charlie Bell, Charlie Villanueva, Ramon Sessions and Malik Allen. Get Ike Diogu, Willie Green, Sergio Rodriquez, Channing Frye and Kareem Rush.

Elton Brand Trades
Sixers Give: Elton Brand, Kareem Rush
Sixers Get: Ben Gordon, Andres Nocioni
Pitch: I think there’s only a slim chance of this happening and, of course, the Sixers might have to sweeten the deal in some way. Why would the Sixers do this? It’s kind of obvious. We’re winning without Brand, who doesn’t appear to fit our style of play (IMHO). So, we give up him and a shooter we aren’t using (Kareem Rush) to get a great, clutch shooter (Ben Gordon) and a gritty yet overpaid forward (Andres Nocioni) in return.
Why would the Bulls do this? Well, this is a bit tough, since they already traded Brand away once before and he was arguably a better player at that time. Of course, it kinda looks like that team is gonna get blown up and this is a way for them to get rid of Nocioni’s awful contract and get a proven power forward (in the right system) in return for him. Of course, they lose Ben Gordon in the deal (and there’s a “Bird rights” issue to deal with here as well), which is why I mentioned that we might have to sweeten the deal in some way, possibly with a draft pick.
Questions: Would Chicago want Brand back? Would they give up Gordon (or would they be more likely to give up Hinrich)? Are they waiting ’til the off season to make the moves everyone assumes they’ll be making? That’s a lot of questions, but who knows… they’re a bad team that will probably listen to any offer that comes their way. Might as well make one.

Sixers Give: Elton Brand
Sixers Get: Mike Miller, Jason Collins
Pitch: Minny gets some much needed help down low being that they are 27th in the league in defensive efficiency and only have one true threat on that half of the court. They have Love, but it looks more like McHale wants to nurse him a bit and he definitely isn’t a strong offensive threat.
The Sixers get someone who can make a jumper and some cap relief at the end of this season and in 2010 if Miller doesn’t fit or decides to walk. Both of the players that really matter in this trade are on the cusp of 30 and under performing on their current teams. While it looks like the 76ers need help shooting and not down low, it is the exact opposite for Minny. I think this would work for both teams and could be a possibility if ES looked into it.
From: Ryan F (before he went out)
——————————
Sixers Give: Elton Brand, Kareem Rush, Donyell Marshall and 2009 1st round pick
Sixers Get: Andres Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas and Thabo Sefalosa
Pitch: Chicago gets their low post player and tells Ben Gordon we are going to give you a chance to win here. The dream lineup for a running team is assembled for our Sixers (Miller, Iggy, Thad, Thomas, Spieghts, Sammy). We get our version of the Hanson brothers (Nocioni, Evans, Ivey) off the bench along with Jason Smith and Lou Williams. Thomas’ consistent play recently is the only reason Stefanski would make this deal.
From: DeepSixerSuede
—————————–
Sixers Give: Elton Brand
Sixers Get: Richard Jefferson
Pitch: Ed Stefanski is behind the scenes trying to cut bait from Elton without taking bad contracts back. Last minute gets offer of Richard Jefferson straight up for Brand. Sammy’s improved play along with Marreese Speights allow him to make this move. Willie finally goes to the bench and we match up well with the big 3 of Boston defensively.
From: DeepSixerSuede
Louis Williams Trades
Sixers Give: Louis Williams, Jason Smith, Kareem Rush
Sixers Get: John Salmons
Pitch: Sacramento could use a part time PG and back court help, especially if Beno Udrih is moved (according to some rumors).
From: DeepSixerSuede
—————————
Sixers Give: Louis Williams
Sixers Get: Corey Brewer and Kevin Ollie
Pitch: Minnesota could use a part time PG and back court help.
From: DeepSixerSuede
—————————-
Sixers Give: Louis Williams, Jason Smith and 2009 1st round pick
Sixers Get: Kelenna Azubuike, C.J.Watson and Marcus Williams ($1.2M expiring contract)
Pitch: Golden State likes Azubuike so we are overpaying slightly but Watson is a young backup PG that can shoot the 3.
From: DeepSixerSuede
Reggie Evans Trades
Sixers Give: Reggie Evans
Sixers Get: Jason Kapono
Pitch: Why? It’s a fact that the 76ers are a horrible 3 pt shooting team and need a shooter, whether its off the bench or in the starting lineup. Kapono is one of the best 3 pt threats in the league and also give Brand a kick out threat when doubled, when he gets back next season.
For Toronto, they are a horrendous rebounding team. Reggie Evans brings them toughness, energy and one of the best rebounding players in the league off the bench. Both players have similar contracts so the financial risks aren’t too bad.
It’s simply trying to sure up weaknesses for both teams.
From: Ryan Clement, The Sim League
Samuel Dalembert Trades
Sixers Give: Samuel Dalembert
Sixers Get: Caron Butler
Pitch: Philly’s take – sure, they lose very important interior defense, but I think Theo, Speights and Evans can compensate somewhat. In return, they get better team and perimeter defense, and that go-to, clutch-down the-stretch guy. With Butler it takes them above .500 team level. I see Butler and Brand working really well next year, Jason Smith comes back as backup center.
For Washington, is what Caron Butler give worth trading for what Sammy gives? Given their lack of playoff success with their version of the Big 3, and their desire to give Arenas what he needs to succeed, AND that he already has Jamison, I think that flipping Sammy for Butler makes them a more balanced team. If they don’t want to start over, what else could they get for Butler?
From: Zack
—————————
Sixers Give: Samuel Dalembert and Willie Green
Sixers Get: Larry Hughes and Joakim Noah
Pitch: Hey, at least the $13 million Hughes is making comes off for the big free agent year of 2010. Dalembert’s and Green’s contracts would come off in 2011. Even Noah’s is done in 2010.

Thad and a #1 conditional or not? I like Amare but that’s a steep price.
They would need to be certain they are resigning Amare. No way you mortgage your future for a 15 month rental.
Yahoo! Sports: “they [Suns] want a combination of expiring contracts, a talented young player – preferably a forward – and draft picks.”
There might be a match here, especially since Amare likes the up-temp0 style and will get his fair share of “touches.” On the other hand, once Philly fans realize that Amare simply doesn’t do that whole defense/rebounding thing, they will be brutal on him, forcing him to leave for a team like the Knicks or Clippers once he hits free agency.
so brand is done for the season
Elton Brand out for season
The Brand contract is the signing that keeps on giving.
c’mon it wouldn’t be philly if we weren’t paying $20mill for a guy on the bench
Just wanted to chime in quickly: I’m totally against trading Andre Miller unless we get a no-brainer deal for him. He’s been one of the better players on the team this year. And it gets me that it’s Miller people want traded, and not LOU WILLIAMS. Why does Sour Lou not get any of the Wille Green-type of hate from last year? He’s been horrible this year!!! Look at his stats and game logs, most of his good games have come against the likes of Milwaukee and Washington, and RARELY has he stepped up in any of the big games.
I can see people waiting for him to “blossom” in some way, but which way is that, exactly? I wouldn’t do this, but if we gave him away for nothing we’d be a much better team; I think he’s one of those addition by subtraction guys. We’d be better off trying out someone from the D-League. Let someone else try the LouWill experience, I’m pretty tired of it.
Look, I don’t hate Lou that much, but I just don’t get why he hasn’t been a target this year. It’s been made very, very clear that efficiency is the key to winning in the NBA, and Lou has been an incredibly inefficient player.
people only want miller traded because he is a FA and likely gone after this season anyway. pretty sure all sixers fans are well aware of how valuable he is to this team.
i do agree that lou has been maddeningly frustrating at times this season.
Dannie, my e-mail is messed up and I!m a computer illiterate anyway. I just want to put these trades out there with defense being the key. A.Miller for Salmons and S.Williams [3.9 exp.]. And Jason and a future #1 for Lowry. TK76 has stated we need to clear some salary space to be able to use our mid-level exemption next year so Williams clears 4 mill. off our total.
Suede - You don’t need to clear cap space to use the mid-level exemption. You get the mid-level exemption when you are over the cap. When you are sufficiently under the cap you just use your cap space to sign players. Do these deals work in the trade machine. You really are not following the rules here.
Dannie, they work and it had something to do with the luxury tax threshold, going over if they use the midlevel exemption, I believe. Sorry Dannie, no more proposals, I promise.
Zack, I am starting to feel the same way about L.Will., the more minutes he gets the more his warts show. If he isn!t a p.g. in the future, I would rather have a spot up shooter that can defend in that role. A bigger backup 2 guard allows us to bring in a smaller ball hawking backup p.g. if we resign A.Miller. I think A.Miller is coming back unless we somehow get involved with another team in a blockbuster but with so many better expiring deals out there [A.Miller!s is about the 10th best ] we probably don!t have the ammo to do that.
Guys like I said in my recap post after the Pacers game I am not a Lou Williams fan, never have been. But he is a base year compensation player right now so any deal involving him would have to be for another young player on a rookie scale deal in order for the salaries to match or package him with a Sixer player with a more substantive contract.
Exactly, Dannie. The same with Iguodala as Williams — he only could bring back half ($5.65 million) of his $11.3 million 2008-09 salary.
As for somebody like Ben Gordon, he would have to agree to a trade because he’d be giving up his Bird rights (Bulls could go over the cap to pay him, unlike any other team). Gordon is also base year like Iguodala and Williams (only allowing half his salary back in a trade), so he is all but untradable.
Another thing is if the Sixers re-sign Miller for an amount close to his current $10 million salary and stay pretty much the same with the rest of the roster, they may not be able to use the full mid-level exception (about $6 mill) on a player (shooter? PG?) without going over the luxury tax. Stefanski may not be allowed to exceed the tax number, just as King typically didn’t.
Tom – Tom I am assuming you are not including the veteran mininum guys like Ivey, Rush, Theo and Marshall on next years books right? I estimate if the Sixers signed Miller to another $10M per year deal they would slightly below $4M under the luxury tax number for this year ($71.150M). How much can we reasonably expect it to go up for next season? It went up almost $3.3M from the ‘08 to ‘09 season.
That trade involving Rodriguez and Outlaw only seems good if, indeed, “Rodriguez breaks out with a chance to play full time.” If he doesn’t, we wind up on the short end of the stick.
shame brand got injured. i was really looking forward to a possible trade for some legit Pf or Guard involving him, he’s still our best commodity.
I sent in a 3 way trade to get Amare- hopefully it will be posted soon. It would use Andre Miller’s value to Portland to help up the value of what we could send to the Suns.
I’m sure the Suns would prefer Lafrenz’s pt insured 13M expiring (Free cash) over Miller. We probably could get Portland to send on to the Suns some combo of a #1, Outlaw or Sergio. Then we send Speights or Thad to the Suns and get back Amare.
I dount it will happen due to financial contraints for the Sixers (to many big contracts) and on the basis that it would be such a steal.
That’s interesting, TK… I’d be completely on board with something like you’re suggesting. Basically, from what I’m hearing…
– The Suns get Raef’s expiring $13 mil, Thad or Marreese, and Outlaw, Sergio, or a #1.
– We get Amare.
– Portland gets Miller (either to resign or to use his expiring $10 mil) and… well, what else does Portland get in return for giving up Raef and, let’s say, Outlaw?
There’s a whole lot of variations. Its basically taking the rumored Miller/filler for Lafrenz/filler and adding in the Suns, who would actually get Lafrenz, two #1’s, and two good young players (Speights OR Thad + Sergio OR Outlaw.)
For Portland, they get Miller, who could make them a real contender this year. Miller is worth more than lafrenz straight up, so the extra value goes on to the Suns.
Amare Stoudemire: I have NEVER, EVER been a fan of Amare Stoudemire’s. I think he’s selfish, cocky, way overvalues his worth to a team, is god-awful at defense, and STILL, like Dwight Howard IMO, has not improved nearly enough on his back to the basket game and footwork to be nearly as effective on the offensive end as he should be. Hate his bitch ass whiney attitude, hate that he opts to shoot jumpers too much, and hate that he doesn’t automatically get 11 rebounds a game. Never liked the guy, never will, have always thought people see his PPG and size only and don’t look at the complete package. Not a winner, and IMO, had he been on a non-Nash/D’Antoni team, would have never had this perception of being “a great PF”, which he is not.
That said…the perfect situation for him would be a run n gun team where it’s job to only run the floor and flush the basketball. Clearly, we are going for this type of team, and he would fit nicely. Except…that we have that guy Elton Brand and Dalembert already in our frontcourt, both of whom can play defense and rebound, and one of which is a very good and efficient player with his back to the basket, and has an array of post moves.
I’d stand pat with this lineup in a heartbeat rather than trade for Amare. If this guy ever makes it to an NBA finals, I’ll be shocked.
The Portland suggestion: I’ve always thought Sergio is an intriguing option, and certainly wouldn’t mind having him around to groom. He’s got the White Chocolate/Pepe Sanchez gene…totally weird, interesting game, incredible eye for the court, incredible at threading the needle, but can also run around like a mad man garnering 20 TO’s in one minute or making boneheaded plays, and playing in this manic overhyper way that is mistake prone.
But…why would Portland do the above deal? It’s horribly for them. A-Miller/Raef’s contract’s are a wash (why would Portland trade one larger expiring contract for another?). So essentially this trade is they are trading a very talented young PG, and a very talented starting to blossom SF that plays great defense, is athletic and has improved his shooting every year…for, uh, Willie Green and Kareem Rush? Let’s remember Pritchard is one of the smartest GMs in the league.
Unless you’re thinking was that they’d resign A-Miller for three years, giving them a top 10 veteran PG to run that team and make B-Roy the true SG, while bringing Bayless up in the combo guard spot as the PG of the future. That would make a bit of sense from their end…but as the poster said, they’d probably push for Reggie Evans, as he’d fit in great there, especially with the floundering career of Mr. Diogu.
Dannie, it would be about $4 million below this year’s luxury tax number ($71.1 million), but don’t forget signing the first-round pick and minimum guys to fill out the roster (perhaps Ivey and two others). The pick and minimum guys would probably account for more than the tax is expected to go up (less than $3.3 mill, given the economy), so they wouldn’t have the full mid-level of almost $6 mill. Even if it’s $4 mill left, that might not work for a guy they want that another team can offer the full mid-level.
I think Portland believes they can make the finals this year with the addition of a good PG like Miller. There have been several rumors of their interest in Miller. If not, then I agree, they would not be interested.
As for Amare’s issues, can’t disagree. But in 36 career playoff games:
.524%/ 25.1 / 10.4 / 2 blks. That is undeniably superstar production over a 36 game sample of playoff games.
TK76 – Your trade will be up once I get off work. Swamped today at the Clark Kent job.
Guys, the Pheonix salary I want is J.Richardson but he can!t be combined with other players in a deal. Unlike Stoudemire he fills a need. I still feel Elton will come back next year and we gained a year on the end, trying to be positive. Sam and Elton are both better defensively than Amare and unless Elton is part of the package how can we make it work.
TK: In that scenario, if they see A-Miller as a veteran PG this year to lead them, and signing them to a short term, 3 year deal afterwards to share PG duties as his career winds down…then yes, I definitely agree Portland would look at that. Sergio would be automatic…but I sincerely doubt they’d throw in Outlaw.
And in fact…since our season is in the tank anyway and we will probably overachieve and play .500 ball again…why not look long term and fill a true need?…
…shooting! aka: Martell Webster. Outlaw, right now, is obviously the superior player, and would be a welcome addition of athleticsm and versatility to our team, and really bolster our bench. Certainly would be an amazing addition. But might be worth gambling on the also young Webster. Far less proven, and certainly hasnt blossomed yet as Outlaw has…but that man can shoot and has a beautiful stroke. Just tossing it out there as something to think about.
DaveT, for some reason Outlaw is always mentioned in trade talks on Portlands end instead of Webster, why I don!t know but with Miller and Fernandez than Roy may get some run at the 3 along with Batum [their B.Bowen]. Maybe Outlaw is inconsistant or wants more playing time. The piece I want back in any Portland deal is the rights to Koponon, who has a chance to be a starting p.g. down the road. I!m not sold on Rodriguez, he had a chance to distinguish himself this year with minutes when Blake was hurt and didn!t, is he a possible starter ?
I doubt they move Webster because he is damaged goods. the would get pennies on the dollar for him. Players currently rehabbing from major injuries rarely are moved. Even brand played a few weeks before he became a FA. As for the 3 way trade, I tried to stick as close as possible to the current rumored Sixer/Blazer trade.
I do agree this team desperately needs a shooter. I’d prefer a PG who can shoot. Let Iguodala create and kick to the PG for the three. Its a shame that Lou is unlikely to develop into that player.
Suede: What evidence do you have that Kaponen could be a starting PG in the NBA? As of now, he is one of a zillion European players that are often overhyped around last June time. He’s very young, and was a total flop in most of his summer league play before heading back to Europe. Just because he’s young and mentioned as one of those European talents, does not in any way mean he will ever be that good.
With Portland wanting to move Travis Outlaw, I think it has to do with the fact that he wants to be an NBA starter, or to be getting at least in the 28-32 mpg range. I think Portland has always loved his talent…after all, they have been VERY patient in bringing him up for the last 5 years, in not wanting to pull another Jermaine O’Neal…but with Rudy, Batum and Webster there all vying for minutes at the SG/SF spots…along with the fact that Bradon Roy is their franchise guy…they are probably looking to clear up a future headache/major logjam of too much talent before it becomes a real problem. That’s always been my .02 on it anyway.
Dave, agree about Outlaw. In my 3 way he would end up the eventual starter for the Suns. he would be a good fit next to JRich.
As for Kaponen, per draft express he is playing in the Italian league. In 15 MPG averages 3 pts, 0.9 asst and 1.3 TO on 33% shooting(Click TK76 above for a link to his stats.)
Even looking at his per 40 min stats, he would put up 7.7 pts, 2.3 asst and 3.3 TO’s on 33% shooting… just brutal.
The kid is just 20 (like Thad) but is a LONG way from being NBA ready.
Suede – You gotta give a “what’s in it for the Sixers” when you submit your trades. Otherwise they are just trades to make trades.
3 words… I want Amare!
Amare clearly is not happy with the Suns. This is mostly due to Terry Porter’s system and in 2010, he is fully planning to go to New York (because of Mike D’antoni). A trade to the Sixers would make Amare satisfied because we run a similar style to the Suns old system. There is not a dominant offensive center that clogs the lane which would be a plus. The Amare and Nash combo became ineffective once Shaq got there because neither of them can find space.
If we do the one that tk76 proposed, Than we need to find a point guard. With Amare’s offensive ability, all we need is a PG who can get into the lane and pass effectively. One who likes to run. I doubt we would have the cap room, but Allen Iverson may become available next offseason. Just a thought.
Guest – I disagree. Amare isn’t happy because he isn’t the 100% focal point of the offense (selfish) and there is much more accountability on him to play defense and rebound to the level his athleticism and physique suggest.
That’s the problem when you play all that time in a run-gun and play no defense system for a long period of time. You lose sight of and the desire to play the game the way it is suppose to be played.
So I ask….
Would Amare really be satisfied on the Sixers when the assumption is the same level or more of accountability to play defense and rebound will be on him? AND he won’t have the caliber of shooters around him (at least initially) to space the floor for him to score relatively easier in the post?
Finally, there is no guarantee that he resigns either.
Then Dannie we will just have to respectfully disagree. I think Amare does want more responsibility in the offense, but I also think he wants an uptempo style similar to the one for the Suns last year.
So do you think Amare was just a player benefiting from a run and gun offense, or is he a dominant post player?
I personally think Amare is great. If you look at how much he has improved since his first year, its tremendous. To answer your question, Would he really be satisfied on the Sixers?
It depends on what we do with EB and Sammy. We could trade EB for a point guard and play Amare at the 4 with Sammy at the 5. That would relieve some of the defensive and rebounding responsibilities. And as long as he gets his 23 points per game on offensive… I think he’s pretty happy. Can’t Amare do the same things we wanted Elton to do coming into this season?
The problem is going to come in… (using my strategy of playing Amare at the 4 and Sammy at the 5) trading Elton Brand. Would a team really give up anything decent for a player who is coming off major shoulder surgery?
Im a big fan of Amare ever since the beginning of his rookie year. So I think if we get the chance we should pull the plug and get him. As far as resigning him, we will have to prove that we can win a Championship with him. Or else he is going to take the money.
Dannie: I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss an Aamare trade. He seems like the perfect candidate for a “change of scenery” move. If the Sixers can trade Miller and Thad for Amare, that’s a one that you might have to pull the trigger on if just for the talent disparity if nothing else.
Sorry for my poor attempt at writing and spelling English above.
Johnny Flynn: Sorry to be slightly off topic here, but couldn’t help but throw this guy’s name in the hat. I am a HUGE fan of Johnny Flynn, and I’d just like to say right now, I want him in a Sixers uniform next June. I don’t care how it happens, I want him to be drafted. Love love love this kid. And am very happy his team is getting their ass beat by Nova at the moment.
Amare: Very torn with him. As I rambled in my above post…can’t stand the guy, and feel he is the most overrated player with huge star power in the NBA. That said, I’d be foolish to dismiss the fact that he DOES excel in a running game, and is certainly a presence. But even if we did land him, which I would say is probably a 5% chance of happening…I’d like to hear anyone explain to me how a starting lineup of Iguodala, Amare, Brand and D-Bere would ever possibly work. Talk about bad outside shooting, damn haha.
Amare,IMO, has a piss poor attitude, is cocky, has still developed no true footwork and a back to the basket game, rebounds poorly for a guy that big and powerful, and is a me-first guy over winning. Not a guy we want to be bringing in at the moment.
Morty/Guest – Where did I “quickly dismiss” an Amare trade? I said I disagree on why he isn’t happy (perceived not to be at least) in Phoenix right now and questioned the notion that he is a perfect fit in Philadelphia.
I like Amare, always have but I am not the one to write posts that only speak to a players strengths and not point out weaknesses when discussing the possibility of him coming to the team I support. Especially when we know the Sixers like to play defense and rebound. AND for the most part we know the Sixers won’t reach championship level without playing strong defense (just like Phoenix didn’t).
I just want to provide more than one side on a topic, usually leads to more comments.
With that said I would much rather have Amare than Thad right now for a number of reasons…
But I will reiterate being able to extend him MUST be part of the deal otherwise you give up Thad for nothing.
Suns reportedly have said, “Everyone but Nash is on the block”…so says Reclinergm.com a few days a go (which, often, means nothing). If this is true though…the one I’d REALLY want from their team is none other than Jason Richardson. Could there possibly be a better fit for our team than an athletic, tall, 20 ppg type scorer that can hit threes from anywhere on the court, and is one of the best rebounding guards in the NBA?
I have no idea what kind of rules are set up in the NBA about how soon a player can be traded again in such a short span (although Sheed was traded to the Hawks and then one game later to Detroit back in ‘04)…but I would LOVE to keep a core of Iguodala, Brand and Dalembert in place, and dangle some combination of: A-Miller, Thad Young, Willie Green, Lou Williams and future draft picks for J-Rich.
Jason Richardson and Andre Iguodala would make an incredible SG/SF tandem that each bring a very different skillset to the table. I’m curious to hear what kind of packages others might be able to think of to put together.
A number of interesting trades on here. To me, the Sixers need to move Andre Miller. In not doing so, the message is clear that this team is content to toil in mediocrity. Even with a healthy Brand, the Sixers cannot win a championship as presently constructed. They need to make aggressive moves to shore up weaknesses and Miller is the best option to bring something back that will strengthen this roster.
Dannie: Just got that impression. Taken on his own merits, Amare is a perfect fit in Phila. despite his less tha ideal rebounding. I’m sure a combo of Dalembert and Amare, or Brand and Amare would provide suffcient rebounding. If I was GM, in the likely sceanirio that I was unable to move Brand or Dalembert I would simply drop Sammy to the bench when Brand returns next season. As for the opt out potential of Amare, the Sixers would still hold his Bird rights, and if unable to resign him would be able to work a sign and trade. All in all, the opportunity to add a talent the caliber of Amare for the relatively low price of Thad would be something hard to turn down.
Unfortunately, this is all hypothetical. Even though I proposed an Amare trade, I just do not see it happening. Not only will the Suns get better offers (Marion/Beasley) but I just don’t see the Sixers going after Amare 9 months after committing 80M to Brand. I’m sure this would be a non-starter with the bean counters at Comcast. They are willing to spend, but have their limits.
TK: Agreed. I think there is a realistic shot that the Sixers will move Andre Miller but I find it highly unlikely that any moves will yield a player the caliber of Amare. That being said, the Sixers to have an asset in Miller that can yield a piece that will help this team down the road.
Yes, as I just posted at realgm, I still can’t get over how bad the timing of all this is.
Last year at this time we were talking of how this team had positioned itself with youth, picks and cap space to be ready to pounce when the right superstar becomes available. Ever winter 1-2 superstars are available.
I’m in no way questioning the Brand signing- sounded great at the time. But if we only knew the issues ahead with Brand, and that Amare would be available… So close to getting the perfect fit for this team. Now we’ll never know.
tk76,
I heard the Heat declined the Marion/Beasley trade. Maybe they didn’t.
My question is how much worse does our fastbreak offense get with losing A. Miller. The guy has been great at setting up the fastbreak for this team. I really hope Brand gets healthy and the big signing becomes a great signing, but I have my doubts right now.
I look at this situation (as far as trading for Richardson or Amare) like a draft. Do you draft for team needs (Richardson being a good shooter) or do you draft for best overall talent (Amare). Its a very hard decision to make if E.S. has to make it. Richardson would be a good fit because he can shoot and he runs the floor well (at least with Golden State he did). Amare is a great young talent, but may or may not stay with the team more than two seasons. So if you guys were E.S., would you rather trade for Richardson or Amare?
Kinda fun imagining all the possibilities.
I agree that Richardson would be a good fit, but he’s another good but not great player (and the team is full of them to varying degrees.) That only gets you so far.
I may be wrong, but I see Amare as a guy who is a real star, who can come up huge in the big games. Not many guys average 25/10.5/2 bl on 52% for 36 playoff games. That’s an impact player that defenses can’t just take away (like Detroit took away Iguodala.)
Amare also has huge issues, but that is often the case with superstars. there were plenty of people ready to point out Kobe’s selfishness and inability to carry a team 2 years ago before he got the right supporting cast.
Can you say – timely?
If they get Amare, they better have a caliber point guard on the Sixers team if you really want to get the best of Amare. Nash made Amare a lot better and most of his FGs have come from Nash assists. But I doubt we will get Amare.
TK76: I fully agree that Amare is a legit “star”, much moreso than Jason Richardson. But my knock on Amare is that while extremely talented…we aren’t really talking about a “young” player with eons of potential left to fill. Let’s remember this is his 7th year in the league…players always have room for growth, but it’s more rare to see a player jump up a huge rung on the ladder once you’ve been in the league 7+ years.
So what would we really be getting? A guy that could regularly get at least 23 ppg and 8-9 rebounds. Well, ok, but what are some downsides:
-Amare can play in a half court offense, but his game still relies much more on power than finesse…not that finesse is necessarily good all the time (see Nowtizki, Dirk), but I mean in the sense of power vs. bball IQ/craftiness.
-Amare, unlike: Shaq, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Rasheed Wallace, Pau Gasol, Carlos Boozer, Elton Brand, has no true post, back to the basket game. It’s all well and good if you can turn around and flush the ball hard, but I’m STUNNED that at this point in his career Amare has dedicated most of his improvement towards only his shooting. He has a hugely improved jumpshot and can now hit threes…and now favors them. This has been done at the expense of better interior footwork.
-Total lack of defense. He is REALLY, REALLY bad defensively. If our team is going to have any success, we NEED good defenders. Having that gaping defensive whole at the forward spot would be a huge blow to our team. And while it is true that Brand and D-Bere could provide that toughness/bruising defense Amare lacks…Phoenix always tried the same thing and it failed miserably because he was such a liability and anyone could go off on him individually.
-Are you really comfortable with Amare being “The Man”? I’m not saying he can’t be the #1 option. He’s clearly proved he has the talent, and I’m most impressed with his slow maturation in being able to see the court better and making nice dishes when he has the ball in the paint (not great in this area, but better). But…I can totally see Amare dropping 25 and 9…and this leading to competitive games, but not WINS.
-I think he’s very concerned with stats and how other people view him. I do not think he is one to sacrifice anything for the betterment of the team…something our Sixers team HAS to have to find success given our weird mix of mashed together pieces and running game. I know that sometimes personality is overrated as far as what translates to the court, but here I think it’s very much the case. He seems very egotistical to me, pompous, and into the showboaty aspects rather than just grinding things out, shutting his mouth and being a professional.
-I really see Amare and Dirk as very similar in that they are great offensive firehouses that building around just would not tend to work. It is VERY telling to me that Amare is not having the best season of his career this year with Shaq emerging into the Heat Shaq he once was. With Shaq taking care of defense and rebounding, Amare should be an absolute monster this year and taken his game to the next level. He hasn’t, and instead has whine and moped.
-I think that Nash did for Amare what Kidd did for Richard Jefferson. You take away that intuitive PG play in an open court system, and a lot of Amare’s game is exposed. Andre Miller, or whoever his replacement will be, is no where near the level of the 03-05 Nash.
-How on EARTH would the trio of Amare, Brand and Sammy work? You start Brand at PF with Amare at the C…knowing Amare hates playing center and whined about it in Phoenix? You play Amare and Sammy, leaving Brand/80 million to only get 30 mpg? I think Brand would get frustrated because Amare would want to be the man and get all the frontcourt touches, and Brand, pro that he is, would accept this and relegate his own game to accomodate Amare…in essence reducing his value and production on the team. And we all know how Sammy gets when his minutes are lowered.
Why I like Richardson better: In no way is a better player. But I like that he’s not that mega star. I absolutely think we need to go with “need” over talent. In general, unless the “talent” is extremely good like a D Rose, K Love, etc…you go need first. And I’d only go talent if it was early in their careers or a rookie.
All I know is if you switch a Thad Young for a Jason Richardson…I mean, how good do Thad lovers expect him to be? J-Rich is pretty much an all star quality player. He’s a total professiona, his game has improved year to year. He has experience being “the man” on bad teams (early 00’s G-State)…has experience relagating to the 3rd to 4th options on teams (Baron, SJax, Ellis G-State…Phoenix)…and experience being one of the top two scorers, without being THE cog on offense, on another team (Charlotte).
J-Rich might not be an alpha guy that can carry you game to game like a vintage Pierce, VC, T-Mac, Ray, etc…but he IS a guy you can count on to get 18 – 23 ppg a night, whatever is needed from him. He would also:
-Fit perfectly with the run and gun style, as he’s a high rising athlete.
-Improve our backcourt rebounding immensely.
-Bring an extremely unselfish attitude to the team…while still knowing how and when to assert himself offensively.
-Is a mature veteran and leader.
-His 3 point shooting finally spreads the floor, giving us good spacing, eventually allowing Brand to operate more freely and Iguodala to cut and drive more effectively.
-Allow Iggy to do his versatile-game-thing night to night and not have to worry so much about dropping so many points. We wouldn’t have the alpha scorer, but we would have two guys that together could share the 18-22 ppg role in J-Rich and Brand, followed by Iguodala as the 3rd option (his perfect role), and the PG, C and bench chipping in the rest.
-J-Rich is anywhere from a mediocre, to pretty good defender…and at least always hustles and tries. Has great height and length, and under the right coach could prove to be an asset as long as he buys into the right system.
I think a Sixers team that works as a collective unit with a hub of J-Rich, Iguodala and Brand is MUCH more effective then trying to develop Thad on the fly while Brand is established.
The Lakers traded Vladimir Radmanovic to the Bobcats for Adam Morrison & Shannon Brown.
Wow, all I can say is Phil Jackson is going to get the best out of those players. Adam Morrison could be resurrected like Mickey Rourke is with Phil Jackson coaching him. Shannon Brown adds another quick player to their uptempo offense. But this does not solve their frontcourt depth, which is their main problem. Losing Turiaf was a big mistake for them!
Larry Brown, Michael Jordan, Vladimir Radmanovic, one of these things is not like the other. Radmanovic plays little to no defense and shoots threes. Larry hates threes and Jordan would outplay guys like him if he still played. At least Phil had him playing on BOTH ends of the floor. But I think Phil outplayed his former All-Star there again. That is probably bad karma after the Wizards sent Kwame Brown to LA.
Rob – I think you are completely missing the point of that trade. The Lakers wanted to get rid of Radman’s contract and they did that by acquiring Morrison which is about a million less and potentially 1 less year and Brown comes off the books this summer.
For the Bobcats they are missing Gerald Wallace and need a small forward. They get that in Radman. Think about it he shoots 44% from three this season the perfect guy along with Carroll to spot up while Felton and Augustine penetrate and kick and Okafor get’s double teamed. That is what Morrison was suppose to be doing but he flat out stinks. Shannon Brown is an after thought in this deal used to make the contracts work. I doubt he sees the court other than garbage time.
Dannie– Carroll is in Dallas. But boy have the Bobcats been active this season. But the Lakers frontcourt is still an issue though. The moves though are great financially.
Ah yes. Even more reason acquiring Radman makes some sense. Same point applies enter Raja Bell for Carroll.
And Diaw is a good passer from the post, high post and on the move as well. I know Larry doesn’t love three point shooting but it’s part of the game and good coaches will use it to their advantage. Something Dileo has tried to do with the Sixers.
Larry Brown & 3’s: I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say, “LB doesn’t like the three point shot.” Let’s not forget this is a guy that coached some guy named Reggie Miller on the Pacers for three years, as well as Chauncy Billups at Detroit, and Jason Richardson on the Bobcats, all of whom had giant green lights to let the rock fly from downtown. LB just doesn’t advocate “bombing away three pointers”, like D’Antoni and Jim O’Brien do.
LB is obviously aware that the 3 pointer is a valuable weapon, and will encourage his players to shoot IF they are actual shooters. His thing is that he doesn’t like to predicate an entire offense around three point shots, and just can’t stand when guys that aren’t real shooters in the purest sense…the Corey Maggette’s, Stephen Jackson’s, Quentin Richardson’s and Allen Iverson’s of the league just chucking up shots whenever.
Bobcats: This team has gone psychotic as far as GMing (shocking, who would EVER think that Larry Brown would have way too much clout and sway over personnel decisions…no never LB!!!). I’m the hugest Augustin fan on earth, but right now they should have THE best young frontcourt in the NBA with an Emeka Okafor and Brook Lopez tandem, and built around that. You have that PF/C combo, and pieces like Felton, J-Rich, Gerald Wallace, Morrison, and picks to use as trade bait…you could have built yourself a team.
It’s a credit that Brown recognized the versatile talent of Diaw and is maximizing both his and Bell’s talent, and it will be interesting to see if they package one of the two (or possibly Radmonovic) along with Felton for a major scorer, so that their future lineup looks like:
-PG: DJ Augustin
-SG: *future scorer*
-SF: Gerald Wallace (their Iguodala)
-PF: Emeka Okafor
-C: Diop/Mohammad/’09 draft piece
With a bench of Sean May and Raja Bell off the bench.
Certainly interesting what’s going on down in NC, and I’m a huge LB guy (even with all his neurotic flaws!) and tend to like expansion teams, so I’ve been rooting for them to do well in the long term. They’ve always been scrappy and well coached between Bickerstaff and LB…hopefully they can land another major piece via draft or trade to take the next step to be in the playoff hunt.
Bobcats/Suns trade?: When writing the above lineup I just realized how much sense it would make for them to try to work out a trade for Amare…a package of:
-Ray Felton or DJ Augustin (Suns would want the latter for shooting probably) ($2-3 mill on rookie scale)
-Gerald Wallace ($10 mill)
-Throw in player ($1-2 mill)
-Future 1st round pick
Also likely because of the relationship between President/GM’s MJ and Steve Kerr…and MJ might like the type of project, star power, hunger, and unfulfilled potential Amare is right now in needing a new landscape. From Kerr’s end, the Suns definitely need a SF, a young PG to groom, and draft picks to help build for the future.
…and now just realized how ridiculous that would be, considering they just did the J-Rich/Diaw-Bell trade, and I doubt the Suns want the J-Rich/G Wallace frontcourt that did not succeed in Charlotte. Shutting up about the Bobcats now, I promise.
DaveT., the only restriction on J.Richardson is he can only be traded by himself. Dannie, I was trying to “keep it short ” on the emails, that is why I concentrated on the other teams reasoning. Tk76, good info on Koponon, last thing I read was how he played well in the summer league and almost made Portlands roster but evidently he is having growing pains in Europe. Ever since J.West flew over to personally watch him play about 3 years ago I have been trying to keep up with him. He had a real good year last season but must of moved up in level of competition. DaveT., I would love J.Rich. without giving A.Miller up but wonder if a package of young guys gets him.
Dannie, did you get my Caron Butler for Sammy trade?
Zack – I got it just got home from the game will post in a little bit.
Zack, Sammy is playing great but if he could bring us that kind of talent I would jump at it. It would be nice to have the pieces in place by training camp next year so Elton could become the icing on the cake, so to speak.
Talked to Stefanski pregame Saturday about potentially making a trade by the Feb. 19 deadline.
I asked specifically about the chances of dealing Miller, to which he replied, “The thing I keep saying, unless someone makes us a basketball offer, meaning something on the court, we will not make a trade. It has to make basketball sense. It’s not financial.”
Someone asked about Orlando needing a point guard with Nelson out for the rest of the season and Miller in the final year. He said, “In general, it just doesn’t work that easily. You’re almost in fantasy basketball right now.”
oops, forgot one part to last post: In asking about Miller to the Magic, it was added that the Sixers need a shooter and Turkoglu is likely to opt out after this season. (A low-salaried player would have to be added from Orlando to make the money work.)
Tom, do you get the feeling if the Sixers win the next 2 games that E.S. will be relieved that the pressure to make a deal will lessen a bit ? [27-24]
That’s a tough one. To me, if Miller and agent Andy Miller (no relation) indicate they’re leaning toward not returning, I’d have to seriously consider a move to prevent Miller from leaving and the Sixers getting nothing in return. Since they’re over the cap, they cannot replace Miller’s $10 million and would only have the mid-level exception (between $5.5 and $6 million) with which to sign a player.
Tom, is it me or does A.Miller a] seem to be more comfortable here this year b] have very limited better situations available, if winning a title is his main goal, and c] does going to the west coast trump winning and salary at this point. Would love to here your opinions on these points.
Miller is a difficult guy to read. He doesn’t seem to talk much — to his teammates or reporters — and shows little emotion. It may come down to how much he likes the city and things of that nature. There is no guarantee he’ll get another $10 million in another city — he could end up signing for the mid-level exception. He’s an LA native, but I’m not sure how strong the pull is for him to go back to the West Coast. He’s very good at running a team, but not so good at stopping dribble penetration.
Tom, on your last point, it would be nice if the team could have enough confidence in a backup p.g. to allow A.Miller!s court time to be limited to 28 to 32 minutes a night, thus bringing ball pressure into play for the other minutes, trying to get the best of 2 worlds, so to speak. I am not sure Ivey is that guy, in fact he seems to be getting some 2 guard minutes now. Did you feel A.Miller was drained by the end of the Pistons series ? That is my concern if he get to the 2nd round this year.
I find this interesting. Gary Payton has said twice now, that Andre Miller is one of the top 5 point guards in the league. As a Sixers fan, I don’t look at it like that. Do we under-value Miller? My top five would be:
1. CP3
2. Deron Williams
3. Steve Nash
4. Tony Parker
5. Chaunsey Billups
And then you still have Devon Harris, Jameer Nelson, Mo Williams, Rondo, and Gilbert Areanas. Andre Miller would probably be around the 9th best point guard in the league in my opinion.
Nash is slipping, but still ahead of Miller. Don’t forget Jose Calderon and Derrick Rose, who is good and going to be terrific.
Not sure if Miller was worn down or just losing a little quickness, of which he wasn’t overly blessed with before.
I like the optimism in actually thinking we could land Amare, call me crazy, but I would want no part of it unless it involved moving Brand. I think we have a similar “un-proven” player in Speights. If he was given 30+ minutes a game I think he would find a way to average 20+pts, he has shown to be a weak defender and rebounder at times, same exact player to me, just not as popular…yet.
I wouldn’t want any part of Caron either, the last thing we need is more help on the wing and he’ll be 29 in a month. This team needs to get younger, because we are obviously not gonna win it all now.
Dealing Sam makes absolutely no sense right now, unless Dileo is prepared to play Speights in a full time roll and sacrifice a ton on the defensive end. If Brand were healthy and playing solid D, then you could think about moving Sammy, but he’s not and he’s not.
Guest: Gary Payton is one of many ex-players that when they become analysts, tend to speak in terms of absolutes, and wild exaggeration. Glove saying, “A-Miller is def. in the top 5 point guards of the league” should definitely be taken with a huge grain of salt. He’s the type that would say that about most PG any time they had a good night.
You hear this a lot when someone had some monster game and guys will go, “A top 10 player in the NBA, definitely.” When in actuality, if you stop and think about it, no way player X would be top 10. I’ve heard lots of people call Elton Brand a top 10-15 NBA player, and in no way shape or form has that ever been true, except maybe ‘06.
Making a trade: I honestly don’t think we should make one right now. I’ve never thought trading Sammy was a good idea, even during his slump…his positives have always outweighed the negatives; over the summer, and still now, I was never someone that wanted to trade Iguodala, despite the fact he too has many negatives.
A-Miller is the tricky one here. Last year of his deal…we don’t want to lose him for nothing. Then again, maybe the extra cap space would help. Or maybe if we didn’t trade him, we could sign-trade him in the offseason. But I’d be VERY careful about just chucking up a guy probably in the best 8-10 PG spots in the NBA without thinking first. We would HAVE to get either a young PG back in return to groom, or a very solid stop gap option. Miller is a very good PG, and many could argue he has been the most important piece keeping our ship affloat. You take him away, let’s not just say, “Everything will be fine.”
If we did make a trade, I do not think Iguodala, Dalembert, or Speights should be included. Those would be my off limit guys, unless a chance to land a really special player came up. I see Speights as a future 20/10 guy that can play good defense after the Brand era is over, or as insurance in case these injuries keep up…we cannot let a 6′10 guy with great promise go. I think our best option would be to use a combination of A-Miller, Thad Young, or Lou Williams as bait to land:
1. A proven SG with height that we can count on to score at least 18-19 ppg and hit the three.
2. A high 1st round pick…allowing us to draft one of the young PG’s out there. Brandon Jennings would be a nice choice, I really like the maturation he seems to be undergoing in Europe (both on and off the court)…but as he’ll probably be gone early, the one I have fallen in love with is Johnny Flynn, who will probably be available in the 8-16 range. One of those two could tag-team with Royal Ivey and a third vet backup we could sign to keep us competitive enough at the position.
Future lineup would look like:
PG: (rookie/young guy to groom already in NBA)
SG: (18-19 ppg scorer we trade for to stretch the floor)
SF: Andre Iguodala
PF: Elton Brand
C: Sammy Dalembert
Bench – Speights, R. Evans, L. Williams (if still there), Ivey, Ratliff.
Again, all the above is IF we make a trade. Personally I think standing pat is the best option right now. It would allow us time to see how we feel about A-Miller, how he feels about us, if we want to get him for a 3 year, $24 million deal after the season…or if not, then sign-trade him. Right now, given the fact that Iguodala is entering his prime, what hopefully is left of Brand is in his prime…I’d rather have a legit veteran SG then the future potential of Thad Young. And I really like Thad’s game.
i say sixers trade a 1st round, dalembert, green, miller for steve nash
Dave T: the prospect of your J-Rich intrigues me so much (forget Ben Gordon) I would give up the almighty Thad Young and then some. w/ Miller it would greatly improve our half court game and shooting but his rebounding would be a huge plus. to have that kind of size with 2 slam dunk champions (1 robbed) on each wing + solid rebounding would do something for our fastbreak game, which I am sold on as our future (live or die with it). it would bring us a PG closer to the ultimate starting 5. the rest will just have to be luck.
With Phoenix, i predict, in blow-up mode this summer and next season they might wanna do something.
Suede: the restriction on Richardson, does it stem from his contract or because he was just traded?
JKay, because he was traded, it may be lifted over the summer. I tried packages with L.Will. and Jason and picks but it is tough to match his salary without fillers with him. If we get Richardson I would love to keep A.Miller, though that may be tough.
a sweet shooting guard with good 3 pt range, size (6′5″ or so), rebounds very well for his position and CAN PLAY good D if motivated. Iggy-like athleticism but with shooting. Such a rare combination, how can that be overlooked. I keep thinking he might be our Sheed to complete the team. Instead of looking for a PG that can do all of the above, Miller, Iguodala and Richardson will provide a very multi-faceted backcourt that it could not be shut down in a half court game. heck we could even run Iggy’s plays for him. The chemistry seems promising.
I think Thad will be very good but not better than Iggy at the 3 position. A better scorer defintely (20Plus even) but not a better player on this team anyway. That said I am willing to give him up if we can get that guy. After Phoenix is watching the playoffs at home, I think they might listen to offers next year at the trade deadline. We had better be prepared; salary filler?? to bridge a $11-12 million salary – i’d toss thad, lou and willie (tough luck you gotta take him) in there plus jason smith all for richardson and maybe a draft pick/ alando tucker if they like. Lou’s a talent but i’d rathere have Ivy off the bench and live with the scoring defeciency. basically depleting our bench but u gotta go what you gotta do.
Is anyone else chafing from the complete lack of Sixers trade rumors approaching the trade deadline? I mean, nothing, NOTHING!!! suede, how can you stand this?
First is a trade idea of mine that, in my opinion, would get Philly buzzing, and that’s followed by trade ideas I’ve read/heard:
MY WACKY TRADE: Andre Miller for Steve Nash. Miller goes West, and to a winning team; Phoenix gets an expiring contract and a replacement point guard. I think Nash would be a great mentor for Lou. I’ve always thought that Miller’s PG style didn’t suit Lou, that he’d be more suited to Nash’s ball-hogging, probing-the-defense, find-the-right-angle-for-the-pass style. Miller is a better defender, but Nash can legitimately shoot the 3. I think Nash would force our guys into more off-the-ball movement.
—
On Bill Simmons’ ASG podcast, he wanted a Sixers/Clippers/Houston 3-way:
Sixers get Baron Davis, Marcus Camby
Clippers get Sammy, Artest and filler
Houston gets Andre Miller
MY TAKE: I’ll take Andre Miller for BoomDizzle and scrap the rest; not sure if Baron wants to play out East. Simmons says Davis HATES Dunleavy. But BD would definitely take shots away from our young guys (Thad, Smith, Speights), not sure if I’d like that. Miller gets to go back West; playing for crappy teams doesn’t seem to bother him too much. But for all he’s done for the Sixers, it seems cold to send him to the Clips, but it seems a good fit given their personnel.

Chad Ford says this is a rumor: “They[Minnesota] need help at both point guard and center. One rumored trade I’ve heard: McCants, Collins and Brian Cardinal for the Sixers’ Samuel Dalembert, who would give Minnesota shot-blocking and athleticism in the frontcourt. But is he worth the two years and $25 million left on his contract?”
MY TAKE: Wow, that’s a “malaka” return for Sammy. No one at ESPN gives a rat’s ass about the Sixers. What’s in it for the 6ers?
—
From a Kings blog, Sactown Royalty:
Dalembert and Willie Green for Brad Miller and Beno Udrih: Miller would be an offensive upgrade this season and next for a team that needs it. Andre Miller’s old, and his deal expires this summer. Udrih could be a starter if needed, or a good back-up. Green’s contract is small, runs through ‘11 and is partially unguaranteed (a la Mikki Moore, though with a potentially cheaper buy-out). Start Cassell!
Dalembert for John Salmons and Kenny Thomas: Since Elton Brand is out, the Sixers need help at the two/three (with Thad Young moving up to the four). Again, Salmons helps the offense. Also, everyone in Philadelphia is new; there shouldn’t be any institutional biases against Salmons.
Dalembert for Mikki Moore and Kenny Thomas: Philly would save $2 million next year and $13 million in 2010-11. That might be important to them.
I’d love any of these ideas for the Kings. I think most 76ers fans would like them (they really don’t like Dalembert). What do you think?
MY TAKES: Proposal #1, it’s amazing how little other NBA cities know about the Sixers – Dalembert and Green are good fits for the way the Sixers play basketball, how the hell does Miller and Udrih fit in? “Miller woud be an offensive upgrade…” Sure, but we’d lose more from the points that Sam’s defense generates. Miller isn’t a no-doubt-about-it crunch time scorer, and Brand/Miller would congest the lane much worse than Brand/Sam did. The 2nd and 3rd ideas… again, we give up our key defensive presence for slight offense upgrades and financial reasons? They’re dreaming over there (or in my case, up I-80).
I wonder if there will be anything like what happened four years ago around MIDNIGHT at the Trade Deadline, when we acquired Chris Webber. I hope it is a good one that is better that one, but I doubt anything will happen! But that shocking when we acquired Webber four years ago. At the time, it was a bit exciting and then when he made his Sixers debut against the Kings, many of us thought it was a sign of things to come. Then POOF and you guys know the rest! That was a trade that came out of nowhere, I don’t think anyone saw that coming!!
But anyway, I think will stand pat!!
