Sixers Lose to Boston As Expected

Honestly I got nothing else besides the headline.  This season has been pretty much a downer with the exception of Marreese Speights.  Boston is coming in on a ridiculous 18-game winning streak and  I don’t think anyone here thinks the Sixers have a shot to win this game.  If some delusional hometown fan does – they sure wouldn’t put their money on it.  The Sixers are a 13 and a half underdog tonight.

Can the Sixers beat Boston?  Sure, it’s the NBA, these guys are all pros and anything can happen.  The Sixers would need a perfect game from everyone and even then I don’t think it’s a guarantee they’d win.  Rajon Rondo looks like a top 3 point guard right now and the Big Three haven’t had to carry this team to all these wins.  Everyone is playing at a high level on that team, something we have yet to see our Sixers achieve.  I am really hoping they play up to the competition tonight and make a game of it.  Otherwise I might find myself watching New Orleans and the Lakers on NBATV at 8.

Anyone optimistic?

Sixers vs. Boston Game Notes

Well they didn’t lose by 20!  But I was really hoping they would cover the spread and at least scare Boston and make them have to play in the fourth quarter.  Sadly the game was well in hand for the Celtics four minutes into the 4th.  What’s worse is that was pretty much the expectation going into the game and I hate that more than anything.

Three stats:

  • 20 turnovers
  • 0-11 from three
  • 17-27 from the foul line (63%)

Three areas that continue to kill this team game after game.  They completely negate the fact that they outscored the Celtics 20-8 on the break and shot 48% from the field on a defense that was only allowing 41.76% field goal shooting on the season.

The Sixers played hard and about as well as they could in the first quarter and still were down 4.  Boston is just that good.  They made this win look extremely easy in every aspect.  Their reserves even dominated the Sixers bench.  Honestly this game really isn’t that big a deal for me.  Boston is the best team in the NBA and could be the best team since the Shaq and Kobe Lakers team that dominating for a few seasons.  The Sixers aren’t suppose to beat them and not even suppose to be in the game with them.

The Sixers need to start from the bottom.  They need focus on themselves and SLOWLY clean up their sloppy play and amateur fundamentals.  It’s clear the off-season moves and hyped improvement will remain strictly on paper.

One of the greatest things I love about watching sports is the unexpected.  The hope and belief that I will be pleasantly surprised.  Well right now I don’t have that when the Sixers play a strong team.  In fact they are ass backwards in that regard.  When I fully expect them to win a game they find a way to piss it away like the Pacers loss.  And looking at the schedule I really don’t see how anyone can expect them to win more than a game or two.  Just frustrating.

These two pictures should fucking piss the Sixers players off. I know they piss me off and would even more if I was player on the losing side of game and my opponents were on the bench lookin’ like that.

  1. bski says:

No optimism here.  Rondo against Miller, ouch.  Garnett against who exactly?  Thad, no.  Speights, no good either.  Maybe Ratliff can slow him down a bit.  The only chance we have is for Lou to play the best defensive game of his life and stay in front of Rondo, for Iguodala to play Pierce to a standstill at both ends, for Sammy to get the better of Perkins, for Willie to get in Allen’s shirt and muscle him, for Garnett to have an off night, and for our bench to come through big time.  Other than that it shouldn’t take much to beat the Celts.

  2. sfw says:

Let’s look for 4 highly competitive quarters. Right now flat is the word for sixers fans. Love to see backcourt of AMill & Lou be successful AND the frontcourt to battle. Contain the big 3 and hope for the best. Had over a week with DiLeo and plenty of practice time. Improved D & running game ? I hope so……………

  3. Morty says:

Prediction: Elton Brand pops his shoulder back into place, Mo Cheeks shows up in shorts and the Sixers roll over an astonished Boston. Final score: Sixers 97, Boston 95.

  4. guest says:

Im with Morty here. haha ok maybe not.  But that Celtics game last year was amazing and I wish we played with that intensity every night.  The only chance we got, is if we play our best game, Boston plays their worst,  and they start looking ahead to the Lakers game on Christmas day.  Then we might have a very small chance to win this game.  But if we do…I’ll go crazy.  LETS GO SIXERS!!! theres your optimism

  5. deepsixersuede says:

Unleash the hounds !!!! Start Reggie and Thad at the forwards, Sammy at center, and Iggy [Willie has a bad ankle] and A.Miller and shock the world. Sixers – 98–Celtics-93.

  6. jkay says:

the caption says it all. i felt the same way about the lakers game; just happy they werent blown out. anything can happen in the nba but for that anything to happen you have to have talented players who either suddenl;y become hot for that night and shoot lights out or play with super intensity and win. i’m so pessimistic about our talent here (evidenced Iguodala is our best player on the floor-not to take anything away from him) and then we don’t play with much intenisty at all. what chance really against a team whose skill, mental toughness trumps ours by lightyears! ok thius is getting too depressing; lets just watch the game
i’m waiting for you to show me something meen, give us reason to hope again. cmon

  7. Mike says:

ugh kareem rush is starting tonight.

  8. Dannie says:

Mike - I was expecting that.  DiLeo has been very strong in his assurance that he is going to find minutes for Rush and give him an opportunity to contribute and show us he can be the shooter we need.

I thinks its a good thing.  Not that Willie isn’t playing (been very happy with Willie all season) but that we finally get to see what the guys brought in to be an answer for our perimeter shooting woes.  I will be paying particular attention to his effort level on defense because ultimately that will determine how long he gets to stay on the floor.

If he plays hard and smart on defense and make a couple shots that would probably start to get him in the regular rotation and help spread the floor for the Sixers going forward especially when Brand gets back.

    Hoping for the best.

  9. jjg says:

Spinning off Morty’s scenario:  Could use the “bench” vs. Celts.  Start creaky but always game Jimmy Lynam at the point (w/cagey Eddie ‘The Shot’ Stefanski backing him up), Tony Dileo at SG (slow & slight, but deadeye aim if given opening), Aaron McKie at SF (doing everything “the right way”, minus ‘heat’), Jeff Ruland (McFilthy) at PF and quiet-but-deadly Moses Malone parting the key at center.  Oh, and “the big (TV) fella” Bob Salmi could assume coaching duties, be extra “crafty” and urge “instant amnesia” after every “young man” ‘s mistake.  Of course it would have to be a downtempo game.  But that crew could hang on sheer willpower and guile – until keeling to one knee.

  10. bski says:

Holy cow, Miller looks sharp tonight.  He must have slept 16 hours a night the last couple days because he has some quicks tonight.  Crisp passes, stroking the J, getting to the rim, getting Rush involved.  Very nice so far.

  11. Mike says:

a shame iguodala picked up those 2 fouls.  as soon as he went to the bench boston went on a 9-1 run.

  12. bski says:

Well, that’s a pretty darn good quarter by us, yet we’re down 4.  Somehow we’ve got to maintain what we are doing on offense while also stepping up our defense to slow the Celts down a bit, neither of which will be easy.

  13. jjg says:

    But he’s missed 2 shots.

  14. bski says:

Yeah Mike.  I was just about to tell Suede to put his Iguodala jersey on, but then he picked up that 2nd foul and went to the bench.

  15. jjg says:

Miller, that is.  (Comments arriving fast and furious.)

  16. jjg says:

Sixers came flyin’ out of gate on adrenaline - doesn’t last.

  17. Josh says:

Seems like the Sixers are outletting the ball after a make a lot faster tonight than they have all season. Good.

  18. Morty says:

Bloom is off the Dileo rose: Evans remains in the game after not passing to Igoudala, choosing instead to drive to the rim and get charging called on him. What was that about players knowing their roles?

  19. Morty says:

Deep thought: Leon Powe is Reggie Evans with a brain and the ability to make a FT.

  20. noah says:

is anybody else getting tired of our last-shot-of-the-quarter play?  every time, it’s lou williams pounding the ball until there are are 5 seconds left, then taking a 21-foot fadeaway.  never works.

  21. Morty says:

jjg: Jimmy Lynam will cut you before he loses – he’s that tough.

  22. Dannie says:

Noah – I was thinking the same thing

  23. jjg says:

    Morty  Love #19 & #21 - agree.

  24. noah says:

    andre iguodala likes to dunk

  25. Mike says:

they’ve gotta be the worst FT shooting team in the league, right?  christ are they frustrating.

  26. Dannie says:

Mike – 23rd in the league

  27. guest says:

Congratulations Sixers! At halftime, you have succeeded in letting Rondo light you up for 14 with 4 layups.  Our foul trouble is killing us.  We can’t gaurd them without fouling and now we are scared to foul them.  We play a good half shooting wise, and we are losing by 14.  Great!  Less turnovers, betting free throw shooting, and less fouling and we are right in this thing.

ok Tony DiLeo.  Halftime is a time for ADJUSTMENTS! Prove you can be a coach and make some!  Looking forward to a competitive second half.  Hopefully

  28. bski says:

Morty…regarding post #19.  After Powe got an offensive rebound over Evans I was thinking the same thing.  Powe plays just as hard as Evans but has more skill.

  29. Dannie says:

Guest - Don’t forget rebounding.  Sixers are losing 23-13 on the boards.  But like I’ve said before having Thad at power forward is going to hurt us rebounding against most teams.  He is defending Kendrick Perkins who had 7 boards in the first half.

  30. bski says:

After getting it back to a 37-37 tie I thought we might hang with them for a bit.  So much for that.  A 21-7 run over the final 7 minutes of the half took care of that.  The Celts were scoring from almost anywhere they wanted almost every time down the floor.

On a side note, I’ve had all I can stand of Tommy Heinsohn.  I am going to lose it once he starts giving out “Tommie Points” in the second half.

  31. jjg says:

It’s always good to see “Veal” Scalabrine get PT.  Gives all hope for tomorrow.

What’s with Andre Miller tossing the ball the length of court before going into tunnel?  I thought he was a sage veteran.  Doesn’t talk much but has shown a hothead side.

Iggy does love to dunk.  He’s fabulous – in his own mind.  A lot of energy, strong play early … but he can’t curtail his brain farts throughout a game.

  32. Mike says:

i’ve seen miller do stuff like that before.  in that loss to cleveland at the end of the season last year he threw the ball up towards the jumbotron when the cavs went to the line to win the game.

  33. Mike says:

way to earn those minutes kareem!

  34. guest says:

Dannie, that is right, thats the thing that I was leaving out. Early in the 3rd, Sammy is doing a better job being active, but why is he shooting 20 foot jumpers?

I don’t think we have enough to win this game.  We can’t take advantage of any mistakes that the C’s are making. When they make a turnover, we turn it right back to them.  Not to mention, we aren’t rebounding well.

  35. jjg says:

Mike  Good recall.  Went off at some point in Pistons playoff series too, if I remember correctly.  Competitive fire is great, but that stuff doesn’t help any.

  36. Dannie says:

JJG/Mike – I was at that Cleveland debacle.  Here was the post after it.  That game I thought it was fine because that end game was ridiculous.  Today I don’t know what his deal is.  I’ll take any emotion out of him though.

  37. Dannie says:

Guest – One thing I notice when Sam catches the ball that far from the basket later in the clock the rest of the players just look at him almost saying shoot it.  No one cuts or goes to the ball.  And I’d much rather him take that wide open shot than try to make something happen off the dribble.

  38. Zack says:

Goodness, nothing works with this team.  We tried changing coaches, messing around with the lineups, Donyell freakin’ Marhsall…  and nothing.

[The Celtics' scrubs are outplaying us...]

I don’t think Stefansky knows what he’s doing.  Last year, he gets rid of Korver and asks Mo to play the young guys.  He couldn’t have possibly done that with the intention to improve the team’s win-loss record.  But guess what happens?  The team goes on an incredible run, makes the playoffs, and takes two games from Detroit.

This offseason, he makes these moves that were supposed to elevate us to, at the very least, a team that’s good enough to make the 2nd round.  But guess what happens?  We’ve gone back to Kenny Thomas mediocrity.

This is what happened to the Chicago Bulls last year, and if you look at them this year things aren’t so good, either.  But they did win the Derrick Rose lottery…

  39. deepsixersuede says:

Sammy played well, good to see some chippiness come back to this rivalry, now lets get some talent to go with it. Seems like Spieghts is bringing out the inner p.g. in L.Will. [8 ass]

  40. deepsixersuede says:

Dannie, frontcourt decisions are going to have to be made, when Elton comes back and Jason next year E.S. has to use our surplus up front to get a shooter that can start here at the 2.

  41. jjg says:

I truly don’t see any untouchable on the roster.  This team and organization is in a large bind.

  42. deepsixersuede says:

Guys, remember this time last year, do we try for the playoffs or move A.Miller and get in the lottery. sound familiar .

  43. Zack says:

jjg, the only untouchable for me is Jason Smith, but it’s because he hasn’t been given the chance to help this team lose yet.  But if he had been a contributor to this debacle, then please, go and touch him all you want.

Otherwise, I’m with you on no one being untouchable.  People can analyze and break down this turd of a team all they want, and wonder why it doesn’t take like chocolate, but bottom line is that they’re not winning so it’s still excrement of some sort.

  44. bski says:

Suede….I vote for move Miller and use the rest of this season to get things (head coach, Brand, etc…) straight.  If we end up in the lottery, so be it.  We are kidding ourselves if we think we are going anywhere this year.  Even if we somehow duplicate what we did in the 2nd half last year you know it’s going to end up the same way.  We need to be thinking long term and getting things right for the future (next season) wherever that takes us now.

  45. deepsixersuede says:

BLSKI , An attitude guy [R.Wallace,B.Davis, R.Artest,etc.] added to this group could ,Ithink, get this team deep in the playoffs. But other than a desperate move like that, than what do we have to gain. Do you,E.S., trade a young talent [Spieghts,T.Young] to try that approach, I wouldn!t. We all thought the Celts had a 3 year window, well do we build for when that window is up.

  46. deepsixersuede says:

Zack, in the words of a great tank commander in a great movie,” enuff with the negative vibes”. Zack, as much as talent I think we need a co-leader to Elton, he was coming out of his shell as far as being vocal before the injury and I actually think we miss his physicalness against this Celts team because unlike Reggie he brings skill along with it.

  47. Zack says:

suede, whatever Stefansky put together, IT DOESN’T WORK!!!  IT DOESN’T WORK!!!  They couldn’t even put a damn run against the Celtics 3RD team.  I’ve been sooooo patient with this team, because at the very least, we had what happened last year.  But that’s all gone except for Jason Smith.  So if you exclude trades, I’m down to that: Jason Smith can help turn things around.  But you know what, I actually think he can!  Heal, Jason, heal!!!

It’s not just about talent – look at Paul Pierce with Garnett versus PP with Al Jefferson.  Is Garnett more talented than Al?  Is the 5th pick in the draft (which turned out to be Jeff Green) more talented than Ray Allen?  Paul Pierce needed the right forward alongside him and the right SG.

  48. bski says:

Suede…I wouldn’t go that route either.  We’ve got Elton for 4 more years.  Setting ourselves up for that window of time has got to be our thought process, not a desperate grab now to try and make something out of this year.

  49. guest says:

Zach, your partly right.  We wasted money this off season as far as im concerned.  How much better has Elton made us?  How much better has Royal Ivey, Donyell Marshall, Theo Ratliff, and Kareem Rush made us?

Im not saying that signing Elton was a mistake, but the other 4…maybe we could have gone without signing.  All of those 4, are not going to be a key part of our franchise in the future.
We can still turn it around, but it’s still going to be one in done in the playoffs, no matter how we look at it.  Our only chance of making the second round would be to face the Magic (who we actually have played pretty tough) and then getting lucky.  Still, those 4 players who we thought would make a difference, either havent, or havent gotten the oppurtunity.

  50. Zack says:

suede, it hurts.  I didn’t want to be Chicago Bulls 2.0.  Did you?  I go around to the different team blogs once in a while, and on the Bulls’ site, everyone is all: keep Tyrus Thomas; if you know anything about basketball then you know you GOTTA resign Luol Deng.  But look at them!  If they hadn’t won the lottery and had Brook Lopez instead of Derrick Rose, they’d be pathetic!

I think the negative vibes are needed: like how Andy Reid needs to be constantly reminded by the fans in this town to run the damn ball, we need to tell Stefansky NOW that this team is UNACCEPTABLE.  It’s not even a .500 team, for crying out loud.  For Pete’s sake.  For the love of _____.

  51. bski says:

There is a whole lot of ugly out there on the court.  17-27 from the line, 0-11 from 3 (we have not made a 3 in our last 2 games, 0-21 I believe).  It’s amazing how poorly we shoot collectively and it just kills us.

I am really losing patience with this “running style of play”.  It just can’t be sustained for 48 minutes of each and every game, at least not with who we have trying to do it.  It is too inconsistent an approach to make it your “offensive philosophy”.

  52. Ryan F says:

Anyone else miss the thought of Josh Smith?

  53. jkay says:

zack: calm down lol. the fitting thing comes in later. right now i think we just need more guys who can ACTUALLY ball. don’t forget the celts were like a freak of nature accident. nobody knew how it would go. so don’t bother comparing them to the sixers
this is the 1st time i have watched a game in a while and it looks like the same old: pooor FT shooting (ugh terrible ), good energy but tired out. sometimes it just comes to shots falling in period. we just need to find a way to shoot sumthin. i dunno!!
new rule: Iguodala should take ALL the jump shots for the team in the 1st quarter, then he should not even attempt any for the rem 3. dunno if its fatigue that bugs him after that 1st q. anyone see his stats for FG pct. in 1st qt., it should be Kobe-4th quarter-ish
sammy played with fire tonite. good to see.
miler showed up in 1st half but kudos to Rondo who tightened up D in 2nd half.
mr. young is still queasy, for the first time he couldnt have a serious impact. foul trouble but still i expect so much from him.
the more i see the sixers in their natural style, the more i start to regret us not signing josh smith. brand is the better player but it just seems we may never be anything but a fastbreak team. we just need to make it a damn good one.
guys whaddyu think? i know its played out but its STILL a legit question. what kind of team are we trying to build? Mr. Zack raises an interesting point bout fitting in, so right players for the right style…what is ED Stefanski building here?

  54. deepsixersuede says:

Zack, with limited options available I would like to see one move NOW. The Spieghts/L.Will. tandem is exciting to watch lately and if A.Miller can be moved for a package that includes a #1pick than I would love to see a Sam/[Elton,Spieghts]/Thad,Iggy and L.Will. lineup starting for the rest of the year. L.Will. and Thad, for what it is worth are our 2 best 3pt. shooters of the rotation players and we need outside shooting added to the lineup. As Blski said, lets get some questions answered. And the “can L.Will. work at the p.g.” question is at the top of my list. He really looks for Spieghts for whatever reason, suppose him and Elton get the same vibe, then we may have something. Than with our two #1!s get a backup p.g. and a shooter that your not afraid to play, unlike Rush and Donyel. If they did this and we saw something, that is what would get us all back to feeling good.

  55. Ryan F says:

I think the only untouchable should be Speights, I think this kid is going to be a solid to great player one day.  He actually does show emotion, the only time anyone else does is when they’re bitching at the refs and not getting back.

  56. jkay says:

suede: fine with your lineup but if you think that that and a couple of rookies is gonna take us places anytime soon then  you have not watched enough sixers games to get it right. “CMON SALMI! ROLL THE TAPE” i still cling to my hunt-for-a-star-like-theres-no-tomorrow approach. toss all the chips in one guy and let ‘em ride. i’d rather see us go through 3 yrs of milwaukee bucks lameness with all the recycled high draft picks they keep getting (bogut, yi) and get it right than the alternative.

  57. deepsixersuede says:

Ryan, I don!t think J.Smith works here because , like Iggy, he likes to jack up 3!s and hits them at a very low percentage. We have a big that runs the floor and can shoot in Spieghts. Horford!s addition, along with Bibby, seems to make the Hawks pieces fit and we need to find that. I pick up the paper everyday and see D. Harris scoring 25 ppg., I don!t understand why they won!t try L.Will. at the one, if it doesn!t work at least they know what we need to get.

  58. deepsixersuede says:

J.Kay, using the Hawks as an example, they sucked till they drafted Horford[Spieghts] and brought in an aging p.g. [Bibby] and it clicked. Basketball is a funny game that way and E.S. has to find the right piece to make it work, we could be miles or inches from it coming together.

  59. Mike says:

it’s funny how each year everyone says, “the only untouchable guy is____,” with it first being iguodala, then thad, now speights.  once you actually see the guy play then you realize he’s movable too.  i’m sure the same thing will happen with speights.  i know he’s playing out of position, but thad has looked pretty terrible for the last 15 games or so.  he’s shooting 38% this month.  they’ve gotta have him playing like he was out of the gate in november.

  60. Mike says:

throw in 6/25 from 3pt range in december.

  61. deepsixersuede says:

Mike, last year when there were no expectations he could just play but now he is under the microscope. With a 20,21 and 2 22yrs.olds getting significant minutes it is a wonder we even have these expectations. When Thad,Marreese,L.Will. and Jason reach their prime [4 years ?] they may really be something but can we be that patient?

  62. deepsixersuede says:

Blski, we can become a more conventional team with a running second unit that traps and pushes the ball. My first of many future A.Miller trades; A.Miller, W.Green, this years #1, and a future lottery protected #1 for M.Redd and R.Sessions.With 4 players 23 and under can we afford to give up two #1!s,maybe. Would Milwaukee do it, I sure would inquire.

  63. deepsixersuede says:

Milwaukee!s gain : 22 million in expiring contracts and 2 top 20 picks. With a young center and p.f. they can now retool their backcourt.

  64. deepsixersuede says:

Then we offer Theo and Rush to Orlando for Redick, yes Redick. They are making a championship run and Theo could help them, while to them a Reddick and Rush swap is a wash. Now we added 2 spot up shooters and have a 2nd unit of Jason,Marreese,Reggie,Thad,Reddick and L.Will. for the Elton era. When Redd and Brand come off the books the young guys should be ready. And for those who worry about Redd and Reddicks defense, well that is why Elton and Sammy are back there.

  65. sfw says:

Suede, agree about Lou Will. Time to see what he can do. I had forgotten Sammy’s true value which is to defend the Duncans. Garnetts and Bosh’s. There may be value there to others who notice that. Swing an AMill deal. Let Lou run the point and see what happens. By the way this years draft may be pretty weak.

  66. jjg says:

pretty weak — according to Dick Jerardi and his sources.

  67. bski says:

Well I see someone is up and his mind is churning, right Suede?

As for me, it’s Christmas eve and I don’t want to be in a lousy mood, so I’m going to avoid any negative rants and try to let go of my frustration.  Also, no trade talk for me today.  All those possibilities make my head hurt.

Instead, in recognition of the Sixers o-fer from beyond the arc in the past two games, I am going to keep it light with an adaptation of a holiday ditty, penned by Don Gardner and first published in 1946.

All I Want For Christmas Is To Make A Three (sung to the tune of All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth):

All I want for Christmas is to make a three,
to make a three, just to make a three.
Gee, the Sixers really need to make a three,
Then I’d believe in Ed Stefanski.

It seems so long since I could say,
“The Sixers shoot the three so well they swish ‘em.”
The last  two games they’ve shot a bunch,
but all they do is miss ‘em.

All I want for Christmas is to make a three,
to make a three, just to make a three.
Gee, the Sixers really need to make a three,
Then I’d believe in Ed Stefanski.

  68. jjg says:

Time to clear and swab the deck, mateys!  Man, overboard – but the voyage has jus’ begun … rough seas ahead!

  69. sfw says:

    bski, unfortunately

All I want for Christmas is to make a three,
to make a three, just to make a three.
Gee, the Sixers really need to make a three,
The only way to do it is a tradeeeee.

  70. Dannie says:

hahaha – You guys are clearly in a silly mood on December 24th

  71. sfw says:

Ready to see where all my money went to this Christmas! Hopefully my wife isn’t blogging!

  72. Dannie says:

Suede - We aren’t Duke and this isn’t college basketball.  I gotta stop you on the J.J. Reddick stuff.  He hasn’t proven he is an NBA sharp shooter at all.  He is shooting 29% this season playing the most minutes of his career and actually starting 5 games due to injury.  Yes he is a good shooter but I would pass on him.  And his defense is probably worse than Kareem Rush’s.  I have more thoughts on this too.

Another thing, on defense please, please, please don’t fall into the “well we have Sammy, Elton and Speights back there” trap.  That is a terrible way to thinking about defense and simply an easy cope out when talking about acquiring a terrible defensive player on the perimeter.  All I see when people say that is our bigs getting in foul trouble then we have no one back there to defend the rim.

I am going to put up a post for you guys to keep talking trades so its on one location.

Suede – That was the Dogfish Head 90min IPA talking, last night I was telling my sixer hating friend that Iguodala was better than Wade, just because he’s a hater (I don’t really believe this guys, it was just for the sake of argument so please don’t ban me Dannie).  I don’t think that J. Smith would make this team better, I think I was just reminiscing about a more optimistic time.  In my sober state this morning, I really don’t think that anyone is untouchable.  I do believe that some moves have to be made to make this team a +500 team, let alone a contender, now and in the future.  I really don’t see this team getting any better even after a year with Brand.  I think that or at least hope that ES sees it the same way.  I hope that he is already making calls trying to make atleast 1 move with the 4 big contracts before no one wants any of them. Ill save the possibilities and thought until Dannie puts up the post.

The Sixers really competed with the Celtics, especially in the first half, and I hope they play with that intensity EVERY game.  Andre Iguodala surprisingly had a dunk fest on the Celtics and posterized Garnett a couple times.  Now Iggy has to play with that intensity on both ends EVERY game.  The only things that were unforgiving in the loss though were:  FREE THROWS (freely throwing points away there!) and TURNOVERS.  The truth is that the Celtics were clearly the better team, even though we were undermanned (with Brand and Green out with injuries and Ratliff with the flu).  Other than that, I was very proud of our team!  It was strange though how we managed to get the Celtics to miss 12 straight shots in the second quarter and still not do damage on the offensive end, but it kept us in it for a while.  On the flip side of it, this speaks volumes of the Celtics– even though they struggled in that quarter on offense, they did not let up defensively.  Most teams, even the best teams, would sag defensively if their offense went awry, because both go hand in hand.  They play the way the game is supposed to be played and as an NBA fan, they are a joy to watch.  Other than their turnovers and technical fouls aside, they are a juggernaut of a team and can PERHAPS be as good as those old Celtic teams of yesteryears.  With their attitude and determination, they are on their way.  I can’t wait for the Christmas game with the Lakers and I don’t know who to cheer for as a Sixer fan.  As an NBA fan, I feel like a kid in a candystore.

Dalembert surprisingly had one of his better games and the start of the third quarter was one of his best sequences in defending the paint.
He has to do that EVERY game and not rely on Ratliff to do all that!  If both Centers click on the defensive end, then we can really be a tough  team in the paint. (and of course Brand when he is healty and rust free).  That is a shot-blocking threesome!!  Add Speights and it is the Fantastic Four of Shot Blocking.

I am praying for the day this team gets CONSISTENT!!  (of course, with injuries aside!)

You guys will not hear from me for a while because I am spending my winter vacation in New Orleans.  I will also check out the Rockets-Hornets game live over there on Dec. 26th.

I leave you guys with this question, which Northwestern Division team on our West Coast Trip will the Sixers MOST LIKELY beat– Denver or Utah?

Thanks everybody!  GO SIXERS AND KEEP UP THE ENERGY GUYS AND TEAM!!
