Comments on: Sixers Lose to Boston As Expected

The Sixers really competed with the Celtics, especially in the first half, and I hope they play with that intensity EVERY game. Andre Iguodala surprisingly had a dunk fest on the Celtics and posterized Garnett a couple times. Now Iggy has to play with that intensity on both ends EVERY game. The only things that were unforgiving in the loss though were: FREE THROWS (freely throwing points away there!) and TURNOVERS. The truth is that the Celtics were clearly the better team, even though we were undermanned (with Brand and Green out with injuries and Ratliff with the flu). Other than that, I was very proud of our team! It was strange though how we managed to get the Celtics to miss 12 straight shots in the second quarter and still not do damage on the offensive end, but it kept us in it for a while. On the flip side of it, this speaks volumes of the Celtics– even though they struggled in that quarter on offense, they did not let up defensively. Most teams, even the best teams, would sag defensively if their offense went awry, because both go hand in hand. They play the way the game is supposed to be played and as an NBA fan, they are a joy to watch. Other than their turnovers and technical fouls aside, they are a juggernaut of a team and can PERHAPS be as good as those old Celtic teams of yesteryears. With their attitude and determination, they are on their way. I can’t wait for the Christmas game with the Lakers and I don’t know who to cheer for as a Sixer fan. As an NBA fan, I feel like a kid in a candystore.

Dalembert surprisingly had one of his better games and the start of the third quarter was one of his best sequences in defending the paint.
He has to do that EVERY game and not rely on Ratliff to do all that! If both Centers click on the defensive end, then we can really be a tough team in the paint. (and of course Brand when he is healty and rust free). That is a shot-blocking threesome!! Add Speights and it is the Fantastic Four of Shot Blocking.

I am praying for the day this team gets CONSISTENT!! (of course, with injuries aside!)

You guys will not hear from me for a while because I am spending my winter vacation in New Orleans. I will also check out the Rockets-Hornets game live over there on Dec. 26th.

I leave you guys with this question, which Northwestern Division team on our West Coast Trip will the Sixers MOST LIKELY beat– Denver or Utah?

Suede – That was the Dogfish Head 90min IPA talking, last night I was telling my sixer hating friend that Iguodala was better than Wade, just because he’s a hater (I don’t really believe this guys, it was just for the sake of argument so please don’t ban me Dannie). I don’t think that J. Smith would make this team better, I think I was just reminiscing about a more optimistic time. In my sober state this morning, I really don’t think that anyone is untouchable. I do believe that some moves have to be made to make this team a +500 team, let alone a contender, now and in the future. I really don’t see this team getting any better even after a year with Brand. I think that or at least hope that ES sees it the same way. I hope that he is already making calls trying to make atleast 1 move with the 4 big contracts before no one wants any of them. Ill save the possibilities and thought until Dannie puts up the post.

Suede - We aren’t Duke and this isn’t college basketball. I gotta stop you on the J.J. Reddick stuff. He hasn’t proven he is an NBA sharp shooter at all. He is shooting 29% this season playing the most minutes of his career and actually starting 5 games due to injury. Yes he is a good shooter but I would pass on him. And his defense is probably worse than Kareem Rush’s. I have more thoughts on this too.

Another thing, on defense please, please, please don’t fall into the “well we have Sammy, Elton and Speights back there” trap. That is a terrible way to thinking about defense and simply an easy cope out when talking about acquiring a terrible defensive player on the perimeter. All I see when people say that is our bigs getting in foul trouble then we have no one back there to defend the rim.

I am going to put up a post for you guys to keep talking trades so its on one location.

Well I see someone is up and his mind is churning, right Suede?

As for me, it’s Christmas eve and I don’t want to be in a lousy mood, so I’m going to avoid any negative rants and try to let go of my frustration. Also, no trade talk for me today. All those possibilities make my head hurt.

Instead, in recognition of the Sixers o-fer from beyond the arc in the past two games, I am going to keep it light with an adaptation of a holiday ditty, penned by Don Gardner and first published in 1946.

Suede, agree about Lou Will. Time to see what he can do. I had forgotten Sammy’s true value which is to defend the Duncans. Garnetts and Bosh’s. There may be value there to others who notice that. Swing an AMill deal. Let Lou run the point and see what happens. By the way this years draft may be pretty weak.
