Sixers take on the Bulls today. Iverson isn’t playing so theoretically Jrue should get more minutes. We are facing Derrick Rose which also theoretically would suggest more playing time for Jrue as well. The game like most Sixers games right now is a “who cares” for me. I’ll be watching of course but my attention span is low for the Sixers right now. I’ll be attentive when Jrue is playing Rose. That’s about all I care about going into this game.
I am not rooting for wins at this point. I want change and losing breeds change. I just want the team hurry up and finish this dreadful season and start making moves.
This is your game thread. I should be around for most of this one.

Brand with 22 pts in 24 mins… dude is way past his prime
Is it bad that I’m cheering for the opponent in every game now? I just justify it by chanting “Wall, Wall, Wall…” in my head as I pump my fists with mild anticipation.
Overtime. Here we go. Wall, Wall, Wall…
refs gave rose that one
lets go sixers
God I hate Iggy.. he takes two of the worst shots ive ever seen at the end of the fourth then makes two shots in a row in overtime and does his damn cocky dance… Hey Andre your a self-proclaimed number 1 in the NBA.. why do we have such an awful record if your the go to guy… gimmie a break trade this guy
Chuck: do you really just wanna hate? you are not even glad he made the damn shot and helped us win the game.
Iguodala in post game comments said something along the lines of “we’re trying to go our 2nd half run”.
crap! what happened to our John Wall master plan?
chuck why u hating for son. Iggy did his thing tonite u just had urself a tall glass of haterade. in ed lover voice C mon SON
I haven!t watched the game yet, but Jrue getting 31 minutes without scoring much makes me wonder, who coached for us? Would Charlotte do this deal? Elton and Jason for Diaw and Diop? We save years and acquire the perfect compliment for no “D” Marreese off the bench.
I haven’t watched Charlotte or looked into them much.
I am thinking they need to add an interior scorer. They could use some perimeter shooting and generally more offense without screwing up their defense (24th in offense). Their defense is already very good (4th in the NBA).
Brand seems on the court might be a good fit for them since he provides some interior scoring and at the very least doesn’t hurt them defensively in theory. Jason Smith is an okay option because he is a jump shooting big who could stretch the floor but he just sucks rebounding the ball and defensively he is a punk so I don’t know if Larry Brown would like him.
I almost think if they wanted to make a run right now they would be better off with Brand and Sam anchoring their front court with Wallace, Jackson and Felton. That team defensively and rebounding the ball is nasty. If Brand can consistently score inside he gives them something they don’t have. Sam essentially replaces Tyson Chandler who can’t stay healthy and they have essentially the same contract.
But I still think they lack perimeter shooting. They really needed Raja Bell to be healthy.
suede: he had a poor shooting night, took some bad shots, but spent most of his 2nd half minutes playing off the ball when Lou Williams or Willie G were doing their best point imitation. did not look comfortable doing it at all. also played good defense on Rose, limited him in 1st half. silly Jordan didnt put the ball in his hands.
Suede – One less guard with AI out. Willie started instead of Lou which was interesting. But Lou, Willie and Jrue all played 30 minutes. Thad’s the player who lost out on minutes last night with just 22. His stock is dropping like a bag a bricks right now.
There was one play that had me furious by Thad. It was when the ball was skipped to Deng in the corner, he pumped and got Thad leaning and blew past him driving left. Thad just stood there. Deng was met at the rim by Brand I believe who forced him to miss the lay-up. While this is all happening Thad is just standing outside the lane watching, doing nothing. Deng gets his own offensive rebound and puts it back in. Again the whole time Thad is just standing there watching the play doing nothing.
I’m sorry the kid is a punk, he is soft. He always has been and I believe he always will be. That play was with less than a minute left with us leading the game 94-93. That play gave them the lead. Thad looked like a straight up loser on that play and that’s honestly my general opinion of him.
Dannie, the luster is off our young core it seems, I still wonder if when all is said and done, that Carney is better than Young. Interesting tidbit, doubt it is legit, that if Charlotte changes owners Brown may use it as an excuse to come back to Philly; would ya? [hoopshype] Jkay, getting ready to watch it now. Charlotte seems interested in adding a big but Augustine is mentioned as bait. With his salary [2 mill.?] what do they give up with it?
Did you guys read Jordan wanted B.Lopez while Larry wanted Augustine; sounds like our L.Hughes situation all over again.
Sooner rather than later management will need to take Larry Brown’s drafting power away. Doesn’t appear to be his strong point. He can be consulted of course to make sure a player’s style and personality could fit his system but in no way should he have final say. The Bobcats would be really tough right now with Lopez at center.
Speaking of center, have you watched Aldrich lately? He seems to be dropping weight since the start of the year. I only mention this because, as usual we seem to be dropping in the draft and 8 to 12 beckons again. Dannie, does Cousins remind you of anybody? He seems like a knucklehead but is a beast also. Better than A.Jefferson?
Suede he reminds me of a young DC. Aldrich would have been a top 5 pick if he came out last year, now he would be lucky to go there this season.
Dannie: Time has proved you right on the “soft” label for Thad.
Greek, as far as his head, definitely; but Monroe, skillwise reminds me of D.C., but nowhere near athletic, D.C. when young was a great athlete.
Iggy and Elton wanted that baby. Their faces were etched with the scowling lines and unflinching eyes of commitment Damn, they’re good. All basketball “interns”
should observe their artistry. 42 + 9 = infinite thrills. Thank you, Ed, Ed & Ed.
Jumpin, saw a great Wilt quote today on another sight; ” They say nobody!s perfect. They say practice makes you perfect. They should make up their mind.” A.I. should of been so eloquent when avoiding practice all these years.
suede, Wilt the wit [brevity, soul of it]. Wilton Norman. #13. “Hail to Overbrook High.“ The best. The world was a better place with him in it.
The more I read of ES wanting to get back “a piece,” rather than solely expiring contracts, in an Igoudala trade, the more he resembles Billy King. You have to bottom out first. There is no rebuilding on the fly in the NBA, as the Iverson Interregnum has proven.
Morty, That’s what Tim Legler said this afternoon during Missanelli radio interview. Sixers try to have it both ways. Gotta be honest, bottom and then build.
Two things I’m becoming more and more sure about:
1) Iguodala’s going to be traded or come very very close to being traded. There’s just way too much talk out there for trade talks NOT to get serious leading up to the trade deadline.
2) If a trade goes down, the fan bases of both teams will hate it because it won’t be lopsided in either team’s favor. I was just reading the TrueHoop Celtics blog and the guy would “only consider” the following trades:
Andre Iguodala, Jason Smith, and Jason Kapono for Ray Allen and J.R. Giddens:
Andre Iguodala, Willie Green, and Jason Kapono for Ray Allen, Eddie House, and J.R. Giddens:
Andre Iguodala, Jason Kapono, and Jason Smith for Ray Allen and Marquis Daniels:
Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert for Ray Allen and Kendrick Perkins
The guy might as well offer a bag of turd for an iPhone, because as much as I’d like a trade to happen, as much as I believe that franchises move on from good players (no superstars) within a year or two, you don’t make a trade unless you increase your chances of improving relative to your current chances of improving, either right away or in the future. And I don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel with any of the guy’s trades.
Stefanski, if you’re reading – please don’t do any of the trades the guy mentioned above unless it’s Sam instead of Iguodala. Make a trade to give us fans hope for the future. BTW, firing Eddie Jordan would do that also.
I don’t think Stefanski pulls the trigger on anything. BUT I am not even sure he has a choice. I think he and Jordan could be gone next weekend and therefore all trade talk stops.
Zack, gotta disagree; Allen!s expiring and a solid young big [Perkins] is as good as I would expect in this situation.
Apologies if this has already been discussed in another thread, but plastered all over RealGM.com was a Amare Stoudamire for Iguodala & Dalembert rumor. I sincerely doubt this has a lot of legs, but just throwing it out there in case no one else mentioned it.
And I’d just like to go on the record, again, and say I want no part of Amare Stoudemire. NONE. All his negatives, and there are a good five of them, outweight his positives.
I also don’t understand this need people see to unload Iguodala. Unload him…for what? With what future plan? Iguodala makes a real nice complimentary piece, and his contract, while high, is not “insane” or crazy. He is overpaid, but by 1-2 million per year, nothing as nutty as Rashard Lewis or Elton Brand’s deal. If we trade him for cap space…there aren’t FA’s we are going to replace him with that are any better. If we groom draft picks, chances are they won’t be any better. I just don’t see the upside to this whole “trade Iguodala…just because we suck and need to make a move!” gossip.
If we trade Iguadala, a young, borderline all star in his prime, that is a great 3rd banana for any team, we need to have a SET plan with what we’d do going forward, and IMO, given the weird assembly of our roster, it would just be a step backwards.
DaveT., according to T.Moore, an N.B.A. source said that headline is from an old story. Watched J.Anderson the other night, he looked good.
Danny Green and Hickson both playing well for Cleveland tonight, they may be better off staying pat. Unless a Murphy straight up for Ilgauskas is possible.
Dave T: I’m glad I am not the only one that finds these rumors stupid. i can understand fans wanting to get rid of Iggy cos some of them just don’t like his game, personality etc. but from the front office? considering what you will get in return, only an idiot would do that. which means its all Stefanski just trying to do anything to save his job. the sooner they get him out of there the better. i mean our team still sucks some but nothing’s worse for an already deficient team than a GM that is just desperate. Not thanks, let someone else make the call.
DaveT., it seems our G.M. may have recieved an ultimatum to get under the proposed luxury tax for next year. [speculation] Does he want to move Iggy? Doubtful; Does he have other options? Without giving up draft picks probably not. The N.B.A. system sucks and if they [comcast] aren!t willing to pay above the tax we have no shot at winning anyway.
suede: if what I know about the luxury tax is true, then 6ers would pay a dollar on every dollar. so just not getting over it is not that much relief financially. so just trading a Lou Williams ($5M ave.) and Jason Smith ($1.5-2M) would not be that much of a difference. Comcast entered this year knowing we’d be over the cap. its not like we took any new contracts. so where do they want the figure at? is it just for revenue purposes (balance sheet is heavy on the left) or are they actually trying to land a free agent this summer?
Jkay, if you are over 4 million, you pay 8 million, I believe but there is revenue shared by the teams under the tax that you lose out on also, so you may lose an additional 5 to 10 million there also. If there was progress this year, no E. Jordan, than maybe it isn!t an issue but who knows what they are thinking?
Dunleavy steps down as Clips coach, stays on as GM (Kim Hughes interim coach).
Alludes to possible activity before trade deadline.
Post-Bulls game commentary wouldn’t be complete without someone mentioning Willie G’s left side hop-and-soft pop 12 ft baseline bucket a la Big O to put ‘em up 5 with 50 seconds left. Beautiful execution in money time. The Sixers’ Forrest Gump (continually shows in every situation) is heartening. Once again, cheers to #33, dependable utility.
suede, these are Perkins’ numbers over the past 4 seasons:
season / fg% / rpg / ppg
06-07 .491 5.2 4.5
07-08 615 6.1 6.9
08-09 .577 8.2 8.5
09-10 .625 8.3 11.7
Notice the jump after they got Garnett, Allen and Thibodeau in 07-08? I’m worried he’s overachieving, and that he can only go down from there. I want a trade where there’s the potential for a fantastic surprise, like with Marc Gasol down in Memphis. This is the reason I don’t really want the Stoudemire trade – I think we’ve already seen STAT’s (as some Suns fans call him) ceiling, and the only improvement he can really make is in his mental makeup, a la Zach Randolph down in Memphis; do you see Stoudemire doing that in Philly? I don’t at all.
Still, you never know, maybe Phoenix would be willing to add Robin Lopez (finally, we’ll have an answer for Brook!) and do an Earl Clark for Thad swap, and Earl Clark busts out here. But we’d definitely need Eddie Jordan fired to make anything work.
“If we groom draft picks, chances are they won’t be any better.”
Dave T, I hope the thinking with the organization is NOT to replace Iguodala, but to replace his production. Something like this:
Alright, we need more rebounding from the backcourt/small forward players, can Jrue help there? Willie most likely won’t, so we definitely need someone more athletic and willing to rebound at SG, so that needs to be addressed… Wow, I look down the bench and there’s nothing, everyone down there wants to freakin’ shoot, who put this team together? Oh, that’s right, we did… Alright, let’s get this team more balanced.
We trade Iguodala, this whole team changes, and that’s the part of a potential trade I’m most excited about.
I love Perkins’ serious attitude. Just hardworking & effectively aggressive inside, not borderline dirty and egocentric like Brand. Kendrick’s problem sometimes is controlling his temper. As stats indicate, he’s an NBA banger and solid contributor to a real contender. Don’t see that horse fadin’ soon.
Meh, we need to stop posting per game stats without also supplying minutes per game for context. Post per 36/48 stats instead. Even better, post rebound rate instead.
I like Perkins, he is tough and solid. His production isn’t much different than Sam’s though of the course of their careers.
Sam is a better rebounder and actually turns the ball over less. Perkins is a better low post offensive player and scores more efficiently and reliably inside and he is younger.
His temper is annoying and immature and sometimes costs his team points and time with him having to sit. He fits well with that team.
