If you haven’t seen already, the Sixers met with Allen Iverson today in Dallas for about two hours. This kind of bugs me because on two occasions yesterday Eddie Jordan was adamant that nothing regarding Iverson was serious or imminent. That he had no scheduled plans to meet with Iverson. That all the hype was purely media talk and something for the fans to talk about.
Dude don’t insult our intelligence okay. We aren’t stupid. Your management already admitted to having internal discussions about Iverson. And I can’t imagine Iverson just randomly popped up in Dallas out of nowhere. It was planned. The Sixers are doing their due diligence and want to move quickly so that if there is buzz regarding Iverson it’s in the form of ticket sales for his first game with the Sixers.
It’s all about financial gain and relevancy right now for this franchise.
No pregame analysis today. I am pretty Sixer’d out right now and won’t be watching the game on the first run. Will watch the replay late night and post something tomorrow after the game.
Use this post to discuss. I might chime in here or there when I can catch parts of it.

Ok had to post
Jrue plays well in first quarter than doesn’t get back in the till like the 2:55 mark in the 2nd. Wtf Ivey gets an extended run in the 2nd and adds nothing to the game. Also Brand looked pretty good
They need AI… this hapless bunch of non-stars will never amount to anything. Brand has been a joke, and Iggy is NOT a playmaker… LET’S GO ED SNYDER, I’ve got a pen right here… Get out the damn contract and let me buy some tickets!
How well has Sam been playing lately?
Sam has been holding it down for the most part.
sam is grabbin boards tonight like a champ. brand doesn’t look bad either. too bad no one can guard dirk.
Holiday obviously has talent, but he still needs to guard pgs in the NBA and stay under control. hes obviously 19, but definitely is showing promise.
Sammy is making winning plays here. That was perfect defense on Dirk.
hahahahahahahahah Andre Iguodala. That dude is fucking terrible. What a horrible shot. Even my girlfriend knew he was going to take that dumb ass contested jumper and miss – badly.
Here’s what Dannie wrote in the original post…

And Dannie concluded <<Dude don’t insult our intelligence okay. We aren’t stupid.>>
The link attached in the post offers this gem from Fast Eddie Snider…
Ed Snider, chairman of Comcast-Spectacor, which owns the 76ers and Flyers, is leaving the decision up to Stefanski.
“While nothing has been decided … I support him and his basketball decisions,” he said Monday.>>
Time to upgrade from dude don’t insult our intelligence to dudes don’t insult our intelligence.
What a sham! I’ll stand by my statement from Saturday. They have no choice but to sign him now. You don’t walk away from a publicly negotiated deal like this without a decent alternative and have any credibility left. Not to mention that Sonny Hill is probably screaming in Snider’s ear to sign him at every opportunity.
Hit that one.
Dirk’s going to do it again.
Good try Willie. Plenty of time for a game winning shot.
Does iguodala have one left in him?
Whoa that was close. Hmm, why they didn’t call offensive basket interference? He could have just dunked it for the tie there.
Nope. We don’t have a player on our roster that makes those shots consistently. That’s why we lose these games.
ah well story of the season and pretty indicative of this team.
wtf sammy d
it definitely had a chance
AI ON WEDNESDAY I CAN WEAR MY JERSEY AGAIN
Hahahahahahaha at least we know sammy wants a high pick in the nba draft.
Why Would he touch that ball at all I dont care if its an airball a two pointer does you no good. That play sums up Sammy plays well than does something so unbelievably stupid it boggles the mind.
2one5 what are you talking about? A two ties the game. If his hands weren’t broken and he just flushes that the game is tied and we are in overtime.
And in fact Iguodala’s shot was only a two anyway.
i don’t think he would have goten the dunk off in time.
We need a damn win.
I feel that everybody is slowly losing confidence and interest in this team.
It seems as though we are playing like crap, but are still having chances at the end of games against good teams.
We just need something to kick start this team and pump them up. I’m sure they are just as frustrated as us fans and it sucks to see a young team struggle like this.
Guest I am pretty sure every had already lost confidence and interest. You see the attendance and I beat the TV ratings are even worse. The flyers had more TV viewership during their playoff games than the Sixers did in there last season – by a lot.
I still don’t remember this level of frustration at any point during last season or the one before that. I’m talking about the comments on this site by the way, not necessarily all of Philadelphia.
my bad i thought it was a three point game only half watching at the end
hmm another tough loss. at least they’re playing better. once Elton Brand returns to the staring lineup we should win some games
next stop; the very scary Thunder. if you think Memphis was a handful, check out these guys. impressive victories overa number of teams already. need i mention them?
Man, I was way worried the stupid Sixers were going to squeak that one out…..jesus people…the LAST thing we want is the Sixers to win games they have NO business winning. Folks, we are in full blown car wreak mode, and we NEED to be. I just hope the complete mistake of re-signing AI doesn’t prevent us from the lottery…we are currently the 4th or 5th worst team in the NBA and I am truly hoping that stays the same for the remainder of the season….here’s for hoping!
Hi Dannie !!
Is it me or all (journalists and) bloggers are AGAINST signing Iverson while the large majority of fans/readers is pro ? I was shocked to see results of some polls, and the comments I’m reading are going in the same direction.
Do you have the same perception? How do you explain that? To me it’s pretty weird, I would say that (casual) fans are so desperate to have some excitement that they forget what bringing him back would actually mean, thinking mid-term. And I love(d) Iverson.
Ricky – You are going to have to clarify this comment:
For one I think bloggers and journalist forget that not everyone watching this team is analyzing it. Not everyone watching cares about much more than the current game they are viewing.
Basketball is a game for the entertainment of it’s viewers. Iverson brings more entertainment value to this team in the eyes of casual fans and even more sophisticated fans.
This team is boring.
Sure they play hard (sometimes) and stay in games. But does anyone really think the result is likely to be anything but a loss? That’s were the team is boring. The end result has to be in question in the mind of the viewer so that they are captivated and engaged.
When the mindset is “no matter what they are going to lose” or “yeah they are making a run and have a chance to win but they won’t” the game has not luster.
People have a number of random reasons for not wanting Iverson but why people want him here is pretty clear.
The people that don’t want him talk about the future. How him playing for 60ish game will hurt the weak, fragile minds of the young, soft players Stefanski is incorrectly trying to build a winner with.
They talk about this season like it matters. They talk about development and minutes for guys. Thad is still going to play. He was going to get limited touches no matter what because Iguodala looks him off every game, Speight’s is a straight jacker and so is Louis Williams. Thad is passive and will never be what people think he will be because it doesn’t have that mentality. He is a solid team guy who just scores when something gives him the ball. Iverson isn’t going to do any damage in that respect since it’s already happening.
Iguodala is 26 I am over his “development.”
Jrue is only 19 years old and people act like he was playing a whole lot anyway. He is only playing now because Lou is hurt. Jordan wasn’t going to play that kid this season much. Hell he is playing Willie more than him now as it is. If you are going to sit the kid down behind someone wouldn’t anyone rather it be A.I.? And besides he is only 19, 60 games this season of Iverson isn’t going to decimate his future like people seem to think is going to happen.
Then you have the straight confused people who one minute say they want the Sixers to tank. Then talk about Iverson as someone who will hurt the team (hurt to me indicates not an increase in winning) then say they don’t want him? If you believe that doesn’t adding Iverson support the ploy to tank?
Then you have the people that don’t advocate tanking and think A.I might actually help them win a few more games but still don’t want him because they don’t like him personally for whatever reason they’ve developed because of all Iverson’s past media attention in this town.
All I know is the little dude took a team to the Finals and gave us all a hell of a game against the giant and that is a HELL OF A LOT more than any player on this team will EVER do in their entire career.
I am already looking in the process of looking for tix for Monday in anticipation. If I am going to watch losing I’d rather watch A.I. doing it than this sorry bunch of losers.
Got it. I respect your view and I must say you have some good points, I agree with many. But I am going to reply to the points where I am disagreeing:
1) Thad. You talk like the dude will never improve or learn things that now he is not doing (and you are right on that). Dude is freakin 21 y/o. TWENTY ONE !!! He DOUBLED his production in his second year, right now he’s mixing good/very good games and poor/very poor games. I find this pretty normal, third year, third coach, new system, bad team. What should we expect from him ? Are we going to say he’s just a new Tim Thomas and give up on him? I am not ready yet.
2) Jrue. I wouldn’t sit him, period. Reguardless of why he is playing now (and it’s true that he is getting playing time only cuz LW got injured), the fact is that… he’s playing ! This is huge ! Adding AI would mean cut his minutes, definitely a bad thing.
3) being an Iverson fan, I think he deserves better. I still hope that a real contender will sign him (Cle, or Orl, still a long season they may be not interested now but could consider it later, who knows… think PJ Brown with Celts, Marbury last year etc). It hurts me to think that Gary Payton and Fatoine Walker got a ring while the lil’ boy was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies and will probably land in a .278 team. The “boost” Iverson can give us might lead us to 38-40 W. I can’t get excited for that.
Peace
