Andre Miller & Sixers F’ing Self-Destruct Against Denver

by Dannie

Denver will be without Carmelo Anthony tonight so the Sixers get a break there.  Unfortunately they’ve shown no inclination to take advantage of opponents who aren’t full strength.  Willie Green practiced on Wednesday so I am assuming he will be back in the starting line up, especially considering Kareem Rush didn’t very little with his opportunity.

As always I am just hoping the Sixers to play hard and try and compete for 48 minutes, making for an entertaining game and a chance to win.   Denver is coming off a tough loss to Portland and I fully expect them to try and feast on the Sixers at home.  The Sixers like to run and so does Denver.  Ultimately it will come down to which team can get stops.  We can only hope that is something the Sixers can do better than the Nuggets tonight.

Sixers vs. Denver CRAP Notes

Oh My F’ing God! Are you kidding me.  So not only do we have a terrible basketball team with no mental toughness, we have idiots and the LAMEST $80M player I have ever seen in my entire life!  I am beyond pissed off right now.  The Sixers were up at much as 17 points and completely gave the game away.  They played the best basketball we have seen them play only to prematurely ejaculate all over their fans faces.  I hate this team.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.  I am furious I can’t even control myself right now.  Here are a few coherent points.

  • 18-30 from the foul line for the Sixers – 60%.  Iguodala 4-7 and Lou 6-10 (and 5 turnovers).  Losers.  I’m sorry I am completely fed up with these bums.  That is simply a lack of focus, concentration and killer instinct.
  • Who the fuck was guarding J.R. Smith?  The only consolation for him dropping 27 points and hitting 7 threes is the fact that he is on my fantasy team. Unbelievable.
  • Denver 15-31 from three.  They were unconscious and that was the key to the comeback.  At some point you need to start running these guys off that line an force them to take the ball to the hole.  Chances are they would turn the ball over as they did 22 times.
  • I can’t even begin to speak about Andre Miller’s technical.  I mean I have no clue what he said, whether it was a loose whistle on the tech  doesn’t matter.  The game wasn’t over.  Miller officially ended the Sixers chance for a last second shot to win or tie.  Good job 9-year veteran.
  • Willie Green, good job bud.  Way to come back and play very well and smart.
  • Tony DiLeo please get a friggin’ clue.  Andre Iguodala is a slug.  You don’t give the ball to slugs with the game on the line.  I hope you finally learned your damn lesson.

Andre Iguodala you flat out suck dude.  How many times are you going to come up lame in the biggest moments of a game?  I could care less how well you played up until that last possession.  You did the same thing you always do, turn the ball over and disappear when the game in on the line.  I hope everyone knows that you had 21 of your 24 points in the first 3 quarters.  Where were you in the fourth?  Oh yes, you were busy committing two of your 4 turnovers including the  traveling call that pretty much ended the game for your team.  I really hope you go say thank you to Andre Miller for that technical because I am pretty sure your coming up lame AGAIN at the end of the game will be overlooked because of that bonehead decision by our veteran point guard.

Update: In my heated rage and haste to write this up I forgot to recognize someone.  Samuel “I am a pussy” Dalembert.  Sammy your team is up by one point and you see Kenyon Martin, a 61% foul shooter driving down the lane.  Instead of going up and blocking the shot OR simply meeting him at the rim and f’ing him up so he has to go to the line and make two clutch free thows you decide to get in the standing fetal position and allow him to get an uncontested dunk for the lead.  And you wonder why 99% of the fans want you give you away to another team for nothing.

Also, can someone please explain to me why the Sixers decided to double team Billups in the center of the court anywhere? He could see it coming and make an easy pass to a wide open teammate.  No matter who got the ball, rotations would be slow and someone would end up wide open. Oh wait, Andre Iguodala was defending him and well, we know what happened last time he was asked to guard someone one-on-one at the end of a close game.  Smart DiLeo, just genius.

This team is a despicable collection of losers.

Next Game:  Why should we give a shit?

Great conversation by you guys (JJG, Morty, Suede, Zack, Dannie) on the previous topic.  I’m sorry I missed it.  I should have some time tomorrow to jump in on Dannie’s next topic.  Looking forward to it.

As far as tonight, if Andre Miller can do a good job on Billups and we actually make some shots (because we should have no trouble getting them), we’ve got a good chance to win this one.

2 Dannie 12.26.08 at 8:07 pm

BSKI - Don’t be so sure the Sixers “should have no trouble getting [easy] shots .”  This isn’t the same Denver team.  People get too caught up in points allowed and don’t factor in pace.  Denver is 9th in defensive rating (point allowed per 100 possessions).  Denver is 4th in the NBA in opponents field goal percentage (43.1%).  Defensively they have been much better this season with Billups at the helm even without Camby.

3 deepsixersuede 12.26.08 at 8:14 pm

With K. Martin at the 4 I hope Reggie gets a start. Thad seems to be getting pushed around lately as Dannie has stated and a little physicalness tonight could help set the tone.

4 Mike 12.26.08 at 10:12 pm

this looks more like the old nuggets.  they’re not playing any defense.  sixers are doing a good job though of pushing the ball.

5 Mike 12.26.08 at 10:17 pm

cause turnovers>>>get out on the break & run.  simple formula.

6 bski 12.26.08 at 10:26 pm

We were way too jumpshot happy in the first quarter.  I can only remember one shot (Thad) at the rim.  The second quarter was much better in that regard but we got careless with the ball…..and the free throws?!?!

7 Mike 12.26.08 at 10:36 pm

this might be the best they’ve looked all season.

8 Mike 12.26.08 at 11:09 pm

well, for 2 quarters anyway

9 Mike 12.26.08 at 11:39 pm

well this comment section should be funny to read tomorrow.  what a meltdown.

10 Ryan F 12.26.08 at 11:46 pm

wtf, if the Sixers made their free throws this wouldn’t even be a game.

if the coaching staff calls one more iso for igg at the end of a game i will no longer be a fan, this was just disgusting.

11 Zack 12.26.08 at 11:46 pm

YES!!!  And the Sixers, in their absolute determination to re-define the term CRAPTASTIC, inch closer to a major trade.  What a night!  Here’s Dei Lynam with Andre Miller…  Wait a minute…  Something’s wrong!  Andre Miller will not come over and make some postgame comments!

12 Theo 12.26.08 at 11:50 pm

Donyell, I told you he’d travel.  Where’s my $20?

13 guest 12.26.08 at 11:50 pm

Wow!  We sure screwed that one up didn’t we.  Looking forward to seeing how you guys react.  Shouldn’t have even come down to the last few possesions when we force that many turnovers and shoot almost 50%, but lets evaluate the last few possesions just for fun.

I guess the coaching staff didn’t realize isolation with Iguodala doesn’t work after the Pacers game.  And I guess Iguodala didn’t realize as soon as the lane collapses, that he needs to make a decision instead of stop his dribble.  And I guess Miller didn’t realize 4 seconds left in the game isnt the best time to get a technical foul.

15-31 3pt

That stat says it all.  Kudos to Denver’s shooters for winning this game.  But also, Nice perimeter defense Sixers…reeeeeeal NICE!

14 Donyell 12.26.08 at 11:53 pm

Damn, he’s never done that before, that’s new.  Usually he just dribbles it off his foot.

15 Dannie 12.27.08 at 12:12 am

Theo & Donyell – Hilarious!

16 Mike 12.27.08 at 12:16 am

it’s like they’re literally trying to figure out anything they can do to lose.  the opponent has committed a season high in turnovers?  what, they’re not playing any D either?  well, shit, let’s just miss all our foul shots and NOT GUARD ANY 3PT SHOOTERS!  that should do it!

17 Drolz 12.27.08 at 12:28 am

When the other team’s 3-pt stats (15-31) are nearly identical to our free throw stats (18-30)… that’s just sick.

Speaking of free throws, Denver took care of theirs (24-25). A lot of other things went wrong but geez, these stats just jump out the box store and kick you in the nuts.  Ugly.

18 guest 12.27.08 at 12:31 am

Dannie, you really went off on this one haha.  It was the Speights missed freethrow that put the game away.  I knew right then that it was over.

REMEMBER WHAT YOU SAID BEFORE THE GAME DANNIE. IT IS GOING TO COME DOWN TO WHO MAKES THE STOPS.

You were right.  We could debate endlessly how to play those last possesions, but it comes down to the fact that we completly broke down on defense.  Simple as that.

19 Dannie 12.27.08 at 12:39 am

Guest - It wasn’t Speights free throw he made an unbelievable play just to finish that lob.  He miss contributed to the collective crapshot at the line, yes.  But it was about stops.  They had them down by 17 and decided to stop defending the three point line and let Kenyon walk down the lane and dunk with two hands uncontested.  Ridiculous.

20 guest 12.27.08 at 12:56 am

I can’t defend anyone on the Sixers.  Everyone contributed to the avalanche.  Whether it was the turnover on the last possesion or the bad shooting all game. *cough* *Samuel Dalembert* *cough* and everybody else on the team from the line.

Dannie your right Speights made a great play.  But it’s like Josh Smith against the Celtics.  Made the fantastic dunk, only to miss the free throw and potentially lose them the game.  You have to make your free throws.  You just have to.  Like I said, we can debate for hours about the last possesion, but the game was lost way before then.

21 Mike 12.27.08 at 1:13 am

“The thought that comes to my mind is, bad teams lose games they’re supposed to win, and good teams win games they’re supposed to lose,” Nuggets coach George Karl said.

22 deepsixersuede 12.27.08 at 1:15 am

I actually enjoyed the game up to the end. I liked the backcourt rotations, Willie/A.Miller than A.Miller/L.Will. than L.Will./Ivey, that!s the way it was supposed to be when Ivey was brought here. Foul shooting is killing this team, along with the refs evidently getting sick of this teams bitching and moaning all the time. Anybody else notice the lousy calls against us the last couple of games, if they keep their mouths shut they may get a call. But overall I thought the ball movement was better and we actually hit some threes. It was a win we needed though so I can!t take too many positives from it.

23 jkay 12.27.08 at 1:26 am

lmao i havent watched the game but judging from dannie’s expletives and the sarcasm flying from theo/donyell, i can see that the sixers came out wit their true best. i read the stat sheet and once i saw 15-31 3pt shooting i knew what cos the sixers a 15 point swing in the 4th quarter. the radio update had them up by bout 10 when i checked last so iexpected the W until i checked it out on my phone later. lol this is funny. the andre’s choked it up for us huh.

seriously this iguodala problem is getting outta hand, why do they keep giving hm the balll at the end of the game? someone needs to do something.

uh well. what next then?? where do we go from here? lol

hey can we pls. stop referring to the Iggy-$80 mill thing,he’s overpaid yes!,deal with it, its just not productive. Iguodala is  the same as before, a gazillion bucks won’t change that, it’ll just make you more mad thats all.

24 deepsixersuede 12.27.08 at 1:42 am

JKay, I agree with you about the money, but it is an issue in this respect; with E.S. basically coaching this team through Deleo it is he who seems to be pushing the Iggy at the end of games to justify his contract even though it hasn!t worked. To me the end of game pecking order salary aside should be L.Will.,A.Miller, Elton [when healthy] and than Iggy, that is why it makes no sense to me.

25 jkay 12.27.08 at 2:16 am

suede: i was afraid you’d say that. <sigh> he has it in his head that he is something he’s not, they’re pushing him to be something he’s not, he keeps losing games for us, he tries even harder…its an endless cycle.

26 BoomDizzle 12.27.08 at 2:43 am

Thank god I saw this at the bar with some friends and not at home by myself.  The remote would have gone through my parents’ tv.

Before I read the other comments I just want to say that I hope Miller is suspended a game for that tech.  Even if it isn’t an official suspension, keep him in his street clothes for the next game.  That was ridiculous.  Unacceptable.

27 BoomDizzle 12.27.08 at 2:55 am

Dannie- Thanks for typing up those post-game comments.

I really don’t understand why Iguodala got the ball at the end.  The possession before that Lou Will makes a beautiful pass to Speights for a bucket…but we don’t give him the ball again?  This team is a mess.

While I have it on my mind, I was reading an old Bill Simmons article where he campaigns to be the Bucks GM.  This passage stuck out:

And you can’t build for the present and the future at the same time. The Bucks did that, too, when they drafted Yi Jianlian last summer. Trying to juggle two agendas at once—contending and rebuilding—is, more than anything else, why the team is floundering now.

Is this not the exact position our team is in at the moment?

Present: Brand, Miller, Dalembert
Future: Speights, Young, Williams
Purgatory: Iguodala, Green, Evans

Go Villanova?

28 CJ wither 12.27.08 at 9:48 am

Last nights game just summed up what this season has been. And isn’t it a shame that even when we were up 17 I still didn’t feel like we had the game in hand?
This team is frustrating beyond belief. Maybe next time Jrolls at the game we can get him to play point. I doubt he’ll melt down with 4 seconds to go so the other team can finish us off!!!!! DAMN YOU MILLERRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

But it should not have gotten to that point. we are pathetic and need a big change and need it now. Fast Eddie needs to be crunching numbers and crunch quick. With the flyers doing well and phils doing their thing. The sixers will soon be on the level of the kixx if they don’t do something.

29 bski 12.27.08 at 10:00 am

This lack of focus and poor play is a reflection on the coach, right?  That’s why Cheeks was fired, right?  We were losing and there were no signs of progress, right?  Well what do we have now?

DiLeo supposedly “knows” these guys very well.  He knows their strengths and weaknesses.  He knows the type of ball the team needs to play.  He knows what needs to change in order for us to progress and become a winning team.  It’s a good thing we didn’t bring in a coach from outside the organization who didn’t “know” everything DiLeo knows, otherwise where would we be?

DiLeo said that he was going to hold each player more accountable but that doesn’t seem to be working so well now does it?  Sure, he’s made a few changes but overall it’s pretty much the same coaching of the same guys who are doing the same things and getting the same results.  In the end the results are all that matters, right?  Again, that why Cheeks was let go, right?

We are on coach number two this season.  How many coaches will we need to go through before we start to think that it might not be the coaches after all?  Just wondering.

I’m with Zack.  I think a major shakeup is getting closer by the day.

30 marco 12.27.08 at 10:14 am

No more excuses, this team is a joke! during the first 29 games, we won only one against > .500 team (detroit) and this show us that  we are not enought talended and skilled to be competitive: play off will be a tough target if the brand come back don’t work better than before his injury.  The east is more competite than last year and, to be realistic, last seasion was an illusion, a great little miracle done with a medicre bunch of  players with a lot of heart and mental toughness; we’ve lost these strengths and we’re going nowhere.  I’m really sad.

31 deepsixersuede 12.27.08 at 11:19 am

It seems to me that it is a lack of either concentration or effort or both, let me explain; The beginning of the year we seemed to be defending well enough to win [top 5 at one point] but our offense sucked, now we seem to be playing offense well enough to win [without consistant 3 pt. shooting] and can!t defend for 48 min. And foul shooting is all about concentration and guys are all basically shooting below average. How do you fix this !!! I disagree about raising the talent level, I think it is finding the right pieces, that is why talent wise it may be fixable.Isn!t A.Miller,Elton,Sammy, and Iggy top 15 talent at each position ? And I would like to see the team in the league that can bring a more talented trio than Thad,Marreese and L.Will. off their bench. The starting 2 guard spot is the only major upgrade I think this team needs, and you know I love to talk trade. Again, concentration, how do you fix that, by bringing in a coach with no ties to anybody that is here and who will get in these guys faces!! They don!t deserve a NICE coach, that is my opinion!!

32 The Greek 12.27.08 at 12:20 pm

Andre Iguodala led the Sixers with 24 points, but got called for traveling while attempting to move into the lane with 3.7 seconds remaining.

lo fucking l
When this prick had the ball in his hands i just couldn’t believe it.  Keep on giving this pathetic piece of shit the rock at the end of close games and we will be wacking off to the draft once again.

Sammy’s off balance fadeaway in the first was priceless.  Keep Thad and Speights and blow this team up.   I came back from Greece for this shit?

33 jjg 12.27.08 at 1:18 pm

Unfortunately, I missed parts of the first half trying to clear tears from my eyes after seeing Evans’ “EB 42″ tribute inscribed on both of his sneakers … shades of  ‘Timmy and Lassie’; a heart-rending scene.  Who would’ve thought Reggie was such a sweetie?  Darn you, Reggie.

On Speights’ monster ‘air’ dunk in 2nd half:  Attitude was right on.  Too bad Marreese threw it down 3 foot early.  Stupid play.

Miller’s cross-court heave to Iguodala, resulting in turnover: stupid, unfundamental play.  Also, 2 other TOs.

Dalembert personifying the Petrified Forest National Park when Martin slices down lane with purpose, and 9 seconds left – dunks in Sammy the Space Man’s face without any trouble.  Stupid non-play.  There’s the epitome of your 60 million dollar center, folks!  Martin:  “I’m going to take it to the basket.  The lane was there, their big man just stood under the basket.”   Real player meets fake player.

Miller’s punk walk across lane in front of Atkins with game on line, resulting in technical:  stupid play.  Miller:  “I didn’t do nothin’, I didn’t say nothin’.”  [delusional]

Iguodala’s pet isolation, dribble right, reverse spin ‘I’ll-flush-this-game-down-the-drain-yet’ move (you watch):  stupid play.

Iguodala:  3 other TOs.

‘Lightening’ Lou, our finger-snappin’, undersized 2 guard whose defense is nowhere near ‘thunder’:  5 TOs.

Young:  30 minutes -  1 rebound, 1 assist … ??

Dalembert:  27 minutes – 2 points … ?

‘Arc’ defense:  invisible, or dispirited & ineffectively amorphous and dunderheaded.

Sixers are outscored 37-22 in deciding 4th quarter, while blowing a 17 pt. lead in game’s last 16 minutes, however;

  -  Iguodala says, “We played well enough to win.  We just didn’t.”
  -  Miller says, “We played solid the whole game and did exactly          what we were supposed to do.”
  -  Coach DiLeo says, “I’m proud of my players.”
  -  Daily News headline says, “Sixers play well but fall short against
      Nuggets”
… so much for journalistic objectivity.

The Philadelphia Spigots; 12 wins, 17 losses.

Next up, Utah Jazz.

34 deepsixersuede 12.27.08 at 1:25 pm

Jumpin, I am happy for Nene because of what he has been through. Did you see him HELP Marreese by nudging him on that play. He brings a physicalness and attitude to the middle. Seems more focused since personal issues.

35 jjg 12.27.08 at 1:30 pm

Nene, yes yes.  Like like his interior attitude.  Marreese was smart to settle down after flailing arm at him on foul.  No contest.

36 deepsixersuede 12.27.08 at 2:04 pm

Jumpin, the odd part of the Denver situation is a rotation of Camby,Martin and a healthy Nene with the addition of Billups probably could have challenged for a title. I still remember a few years ago Nene battling Duncan like a beast in a series.

37 jjg 12.27.08 at 2:21 pm

suede You’re right, nice front line and Billups is a championship guard … letting Camby go – don’t understand that one.  Finance?  Or inside politics?  I’ve liked Marcus since UMass; agile, knows game, defensive ace, complementary offensive guy; makes plays.

38 6erfaninCT 12.27.08 at 4:09 pm

I dont know if I can do 4 more months of this. There is no reason to get excited about anything this team does early in games because you know the meltdown is inevitable, and that more than anything is the sign of a bad team. The Wolves held on in NY. The Grizz held on vs. the Pacers. Why cant we hold on? Better yet, why dont we understand that when a team calls timeout down 17, that is not the time to start giving each other blowjobs. That is the time to STEP ON THEIR THROATS. There are way too many veterans on this team to let leads evaporate as often as they do. This loss will set the tone for the entire trip, which shud be 0-5 given the Clips’ improved play of late.

I have absolutely had it with Dalembert. He is by far the dumbest player in the NBA. He has been in the league seven years and still doesnt know opponents tendencies, when to back off and when to attack defensively, how to play D with his feet and not his hands, how to take one step outside the paint on O so he doesnt get called for 3 sec. I read a story in ESPN Mag a couple years ago where he was taking 15 foot jumpers in practice and someone said he shud be practicing FTs and he said, “It’s the same shot, isn’t it?” That told me all I need to know about this moron.
