Expecting another loss tonight for the Sixers. This is so depressing. I wouldn’t mind it at all if I wasn’t blogging about the team, but having to write something every game has become drudgery and very unpleasant.
Brand has a calf strain so expect him to either miss the game or play quite horribly. Still no Iverson or any word related to Iverson’s return.
The Sixers are now 6 and a half games out of the 8th playoff seed with 24 games to play. More importantly, the Sixers are only 5 games out of the 3rd worst record in the league.
To that end I hope Brand doesn’t play. I’d also like to see Speights and Jason Smith get forced playing time so they can be evaluated more thoroughly.
This is your game thread.

Not watching this one, going to play basketball myself. The Student Pavilion at Temple plays better basketball than the 76ers. I’ll be back in time to see the final quarter (maybe) and to see how terribly the sixers are getting smacked.
This may be one team with a more overpayed p.f. than us, R.Lewis makes 19 mill., 20.5 mill., 22 mill. and 24 mill. over this year and the following 3.
Suede – No way. Not even a little bit.
Right now Brand provides next to no value for the money and will be deteriorating at a more rapid pace than Lewis.
We can fish but we are stuck with one of, if not the worse contract in basketball. A team would trade for Lewis, as we see no one wants Brand.
Both teams blazing hot to start. Hopefully the Sixers realize trading 3′s isn’t a good strategy against these guys…What am I saying hopefully they continue to bomb them up! 1 Step closer to a few more lottery balls
Suede I dont think he is more overpriced than Brand. Yes he is over paid. He is probably around a 15-18 mil guy, but I think he is a bit underutilized in the Magic system(for good reason #12), as primarily a stretch 4. If you look at how he played in Seattle he is capable of doing more.
Brand is what he is. His production or lack-there-of, isn’t a product of the system well maybe a braindead coach has stunted him, but he is what he is at this point. A jump shooting undersized PF, who most likeyl due to his injuries can’t rebound or defend as well as he once did.
Jrue ties his career high in points after 1 quarter.
I love Jrue finishing with his left hand, but for a righthanded player he never finishes with his right, in fact he bricked his one right hand drive tonight, I have never seen a player do this before.
What an outstanding play to end the first half huh? That was a joke.
I like the way Jrue is playing though. Other than a couple plays where Jameer got by him, he’s been doing well on both ends of the floor.
My point with Lewis is his shooting has gone down the last 2 seasons [44%, 43%] and he is Elton!s age and will be making about 5 million more per year than Elton. Would the Sixers even trade Iggy for him straight up ?
Good defensive effort by Marreese; Rashard, I was only kidding.
Suede, Im loving the defensive effort here! About to give up 100+ after 3 quarters. Throw another lottery ball in that pot!
102-81…Huh? We have another Quarter to play? Why?
Has anyone thought about how The Sixers front office & coaching ass-clownery severly have adverse effects on the young guys(Young, Jrue & Speights namely)? I was reading an article on yahoo about the SF 49ers and how going through so many coaches stunted QB Alex Smiths growth. Anyone think that can have a big effect on Young or Speights(and Jrue to a lesser extent, but he seems a bit more mentally “tough” than the other 2)? EJ wont shouldn’t be back next year so that would spell a coaching change each year for these guys.
Anyway, Nice to see Jrue run up his statline shooting good percentages I guess.
BTW The guy who drafted Bassy Telfair over Jameer, should slap himself after every game Nelson plays.
Eddy Jordan – Bashing the players again and talking about no internal leadership. Dude
Watching EJ’s presser. He’s dropping gems “When they made shots, We lacked Passion to compete”…”…its our leadership or lack-there-of, When one person is miserable it’s contagious.”
Man he really looks like he doesn’t want to be here, and looking at the bad body language, and attitude toward the general performance, EJ’s obviously lost the squad at this point.
Quote of the night goes to Marshall Harris(thats his name right?)
“Seems like the Sixers are waving the white flag right now.”
And there it is from Iggy himself “We haven’t been a good defensive team for the last few years, we kinda let our offense dictate our defense”….My friends that is an ASS BACKWARD thought process, Especially from a team that thrives in open court situations, as a result of defense.
EJ, Your team and coaching is not good enough!
Teams always struggle first game home after a west coast trip. Accept that and don’t play the blame game. AI9 said all that does is pull you apart. At this point I buy his opinion more than the coach. I like Marshall H. He and Donyell Marshall call it like it is.
Kinda funny. As you guys are watching the Sixers press conference, I’m watching Larry Brown’s press conference. He completely blamed the Bobcat’s loss on himself for not having the team organized on offense late in the game.
I’m thinking you could blame a couple losses on Eddie Jordan for not having the team “organized”. If you compare the look of the Sixers offense between this season and last… what’s the difference? Is there one?
Still too many jumpshots and still too many people standing around. Blame it on lack of leadership or whatever you want… but the I can easily make the arguement that EJ’s “Princeton Offense” has been horrendous and can be blamed for a lot of these losses.
The fact that the players don’t fit the system… brings up the interesting question:
Would you guys rather blow this team up and acquire some players to play in the Princeton Offense? Or would you rather fire the coach and hire someone that can maximize their potential? Seems to me like Stefanski has to make that decision by the time next season rolls around. It also seems like it is easier to hire a coach to fit the players… instead of building a team around a coach. Especially a coach that hasn’t done squat throughout his entire career.
When a coach repeatedly bashes his players, right or wrong, it’s because he does not have the balls to see fault in himself.
Very sad.
Guest, The Coach. Stefanski may not be around to make the decision.
Everything about this organizations from the players to the F.O is sad right now. I was never in favor of Eddie Jordan and my predictions were fulfilled in roughly the first three weeks of the season. 6ers are terrible. the only players I want to keep on this team is Sammy D, Iggy, and Jrue. I couldn’t care less about the rest of the team. They’re all replaceable, including the head coach and the F.O
Guest – Honestly dont think the Princeton Offense is an NBA level offensive set. my thoughts on it is that it is the perfect offense to run to dismantle a zone defense, because the constant motion and back cuts draw defenders out of position and via good ball movement this leads to open shots. However most NBA teams dont use a zone as a primary defensive set.
First of all, whatever the hell EJ running it is in no way shape or form, anything that even resembles the princeton Offense. IDEALY you’d want a good passing center with above average BBall IQ, so you can put him in the high post and if he has an above average J keep the opposing big man honest enuff to play him closely and open room for a backdoor cut. Also even though you dont need a PURE PG to run this, you also don’t need an undiscipled chucker(Pick an Sixer guard besides Jrue) handling the ball, not givng the PO time to run and taking ill-advised shots. Considering that fact that this offense slows the game and requires discipline, it doesn’t even fit the Sixers run-n-gun players to even try this. Thats why EJ’s initial signing was strange, and further explains this mismatched Sixers debacle.
In the NBA with most opting for man-to-man D, and weakside help defense(Because Pick-N-Roll is so prevalent) The PO isn’t IMO really suited for the NBA. In college & HS it works wonders, not in the Pros.
Also the only time i’ve seen the PO have consistant effectiveness in this more athletic NBA era(1995 to present) is when the early 2000′s Sac-town Kings and Rick Adelman running it. He had 2 GREAT passing bigs Divac & C-Webb(They had Brad Miller to right?), and guys that could hit the open J, and when the offense broke down, C-Webb did his thing.
More excuses from our coach, as usual. A guy that hadn!t coached in 20 years [Deleo] got more out of this group last year, and guest, to answer your question, if our g.m. still believes in this group than bring in a coach that fits it. I hope Jordan isn!t kept on because of the excuse of his team blossoming, if you will, from 25 to 43 wins in his 2nd season in Wash. . Dannie, did Jrue!s jumper look better last night to you, not because of the makes, but Pinkney talked about Aaron working on Jrue getting his legs into his shot more, he looked to have better balance.
Just heard, Inquirer says Iverson not returning this season.
I really hope this isn’t by way of the Eds telling him that they don’t want him back.
Better infrastructure/more experience, attitude & reliability last year:
Andre Miller Jrue Holiday
Reggie Evans Rodney Carney
Donyell Marshall Jason Smith
Theo Ratliff Primoz Brezac/Jodie Meeks
Which hand of cards would you rather be holding as a coach? Which set of players would you rather go to war with? Stefanski, the roster architect, is to blame as much or moreso than Jordan, but somehow he manages to get a lesser degree of criticism. Why is that?
Jumpin, your forgetting adding Elton and Kapono, who I would take over Reggie and Donyell, though your point I believe is a good veteren presence and yes, that is missing. But I said at the beginning of the year a vet., physical big [Voskuhl?] would of helped a bench with 2 soft youngins [ Spieghts,Smith] more than another softie, [Brezec] would. The g.m. is, included whenever I mention our coach, without me saying it, sorry.
suede, I forgot about Kapono (0-12 from 2010 arc) who shovels no coal to the team’s engine room of ashes … scratched him from serious consideration early when he walked onto floor wearing #72. And now he’s sporting an actual beard to cover his theoretical game. Opponents shiver when they see him at the scorer’s table.
I’m glad you’re holding our mastermind GM accountable too.
Stefanski just came out and said AI is done for the year.
Yahoo reports that they will release him
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AlSxbGKaPVzORZI3Oe2NfNA5nYcB?slug=aw-iversonrelease030210&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Did his bobblehead just increase or decrease in value? How does the market swing in such cases?
They release him with no chance to be signed to play in the playoffs, not that it would have happened, but nontheless, another brilliant move by a brilliant front office. I guess with the Phillies underway they figure nobody is noticing. There are a few loyal fans left !!!
