Fouled, I think losing minutes and playing time always affect a player's statistics. While without a doubt Kaman has come out this season like a madman intent on proving every critic wrong, if Brand had been 100% healthy this year, Brand would be getting his regular 22, 10 and 2 blocks.

No matter how good Kaman played, Brand would be taking a whole lot of his rebounds and blocks. I'd give Kaman, playing with this type of passion, with a healthy Brand, about 14 pts and 10 rbs or so.

Either way, no one can take away from Kaman how hard he's played this year; I think he really needed to prove to himself he was capable of playing at big man level a few rungs up on the ladder, and he certainly has done just that. This season w/o Brand will do wonders for his confidence, and next year, if Brand returns, they would probably be labeled a top 2-3 frontcourt combo in the L.

Although I'm hoping our very own Sixers, with our newfound cap space, try to make a serious run at overpaying for Brand in order to bring him here...that would seriously be incredible. Doubt it will ever happen, as we probably only have 12-13 million a year to offer, but sometimes it's good to dream.

@ dannie
haha! so no once has ever won it twice.. thanks for the info..
well al jefferson and chris kaman are good candidates as well.. al jefferson is playing good basketball even if he is in a losing team. kaman has stepped up in elton brand's absence. do you think it will affect kaman's perfomance when brand returns to the clippers?

fouledout - No one has ever won this award back-to-back or even twice before.

Ellis is playing great this season for sure I am most impressed by him shooting over 50% and decreased his turnovers per game by 1. But he hasn't had as dramatic a jump in performance he did last year. Which is usually the case since the guys that win this award usually have a big spike in minutes played which is why their stats go up. It's harder to become most improved player when you are already playing 30+ mpg. You really need to excel.

Depending on how Bynum reacts after his injury the next likely player is Chris Kaman since he kind of came out of no where and Al Jefferson since he is averaging 20+ ppg and 10+rpg.

Here is a NBA GM Survey (done before the season) with predictions and thoughts for the '07-'08:
