"I can only think of two(Gordon and Wells) who have met or exceeded their expectations during their tenure in the bronx"

I would say Sheff and Abreu met expectations, and A-Rod has to an extent. But I also believe that this is mostly correct and is a result of the culture the media, fans, and ownership has created there.

Enjoyable read...but I am a classic Yankee hater. There is something about people who think they can buy everything that grates my insides. However, I have found my hate to dwindle some since the Phils won the WS.

Good lists too... of the all stars you mentioned, I can only think of two(Gordon and Wells) who have met or exceeded their expectations during their tenure in the bronx, and with gordon it was only for a season.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with both of you. As they do every year, the yankees have a potential World Series winning team - on paper. They should pad the AL All-Star roster, send balls flying out into the outfield seats in the new yankee stadium, and make lots of headlines. And they should make the playoffs. But then we're going to go to battle in the playoffs with Sabatha (playoff ERA of 7.92), Burnett (who's not in a contract year, so will probably have been shut down already), Wang (god knows how he got 38 wins between 2006-2007), and Pettitte (he of the serious career decline over the last two years). Not to mention, we all know A-rod's history in the playoffs. Also, I think we'd be better served to have Joba in his eighth inning role and trotting some clown like Hughes or Kennedy every fifth day. A Joba / Mo bullpen, with Marte in the works, would definitely shorten some games for us.

Pete,

Fantastic job with the compilation of those lists. I really enjoyed that. I, like many baseball fans, almost enjoy cheering AGAINST the Yanks as much as I enjoy cheering FOR my favorite team. I agree with you 100% that the Burnett signing was "laughably stupid." One thing is for sure--the Yanks will definitely provide drama. Burnett will get injured. CC's overuse last year also makes him an injury liability. Joba and Wang are absolute wildcards. If everything goes right, the Yanks are easily the best team in baseball, but there is NO POSSIBLE WAY that everything will go right--and I'll be laughing my ass off when the wheels fall off.
