Top 66 Shooting Guards, Combo Guards, and Guard/Forwards in the NBA
I have compiled the ‘07-’08 season stats of the top shooting guards, combo guards, and guard/forwards in the NBA.
The purpose: Compare Andre Iguodala against similar players and evaluate whether he can be a good option at shooting guard in the NBA.
My thought process:
- I did not include the taller/bigger, clear-cut small forwards such as LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony who from a skill perspective probably could play shooting guard. But I did include guys like Danny Granger and Mike Dunleavy who are somewhat interchangeable between SF and SG on their current team.
- I didn’t include guys like Caron Butler or Paul Pierce who could have or have played shooting guard but have a clearly defined position on their current team and are less interchangeable with the shooting guards on their current team.
- I included guys like Kyle Korver or Peja Stojakovic who are better suited playing small forward and typically defend other small forwards because of size or lack of foot speed.
- I also included combo guards who are probably better suited as shooting guards like Bobby Jackson or Gilbert Arenas.
Basically players that could play shooting guard or would make sense for them to play shooting guard a large majority of their time on the court. It’s certainly not a perfect list (sue me) because every source lists players at a different position and so many small forwards are probably capable of playing shooting guard.
